Liquid level control is one of the emerging control problems getting the interest of technical experts in the area of control. This paper is based on a fuzzy logic control strategy to maintain and stabilize the liquid level in a tank system that deals with pumping of liquid in tanks as well as regulating liquid level and pushing off the liquid into another tank. Fuzzy controller attains optimum performance by eliminating perturbation in steady state and vanishing the overshoot as compared to proportional, integral, and derivative (PID) controller. The proposed fuzzy logic controller shows minimal steady error as compared to PID controller. The defuzzification of the proposed scheme is based on the centroid method to obtain optimum results. The settling time is nearly 50 second while using fuzzy logic control as compared to 80 seconds in PID ...

Materials

Beam–column connections are the most critical components of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. ... more Beam–column connections are the most critical components of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. They serve as a load transfer path and take a significant portion of the overall shear. Joints in RC structures constructed with no seismic provisions have an insufficient capacity and ductility under lateral loading and can cause the progressive failure of the entire structure. The joint may fail in the shear prior to the connecting beam and column elements. Therefore, several modeling techniques have been devised in the past to capture the non-linear response of such joints. Modeling techniques used to capture the non-linear response of reinforced-concrete-beam–column joints range from simplified lumped plasticity models to detailed fiber-based finite element (FE) models. The macro-modeling technique for joint modeling is highly efficient in terms of the computational effort, analysis time, and computer memory requirements, and is one of the most widely used modeling techniques. Research paper thumbnail of Cascaded Machine-Learning Technique for Debris Classification in Floor-Cleaning Robot Application

Debris detection and classification is an essential function for autonomous floor-cleaning robots... more Debris detection and classification is an essential function for autonomous floor-cleaning robots. It enables floor-cleaning robots to identify and avoid hard-to-clean debris, specifically large liquid spillage debris. This paper proposes a debris-detection and classification scheme for an autonomous floor-cleaning robot using a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) cascaded technique. The SSD (Single-Shot MultiBox Detector) MobileNet CNN architecture is used for classifying the solid and liquid spill debris on the floor through the captured image. Then, the SVM model is employed for binary classification of liquid spillage regions based on size, which helps floor-cleaning devices to identify the larger liquid spillage debris regions, considered as hard-to-clean debris in this work. The experimental results prove that the proposed technique can efficiently detect and classify the debris on the floor and achieves 95.5% percent classification accurac...

Research paper thumbnail of Evaluation of ultra-wideband in vivo radio channel and its effects on system performance

This paper presents bit error rate (BER) performance analysis and improvement using equalizers fo... more This paper presents bit error rate (BER) performance analysis and improvement using equalizers for an in vivo radio channel at ultra-wideband (UWB) frequencies (3.1-10.6 GHz). By conducting simulations using a bandwidth (BW) of 50 MHz, we observed that the in vivo radio channel is affected by small-scale fading. This fading results in inter-symbol interference (ISI) affecting upcoming symbol transmission, causing delayed versions of the symbols to arrive at the receiver side and causes increase in BER. A 29 taps channel was observed from the experimentally measured data using a human cadaver and BER was calculated for the measured in vivo channel response along with the ideal additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh channel models. Linear and nonlinear adaptive equalizers i.e., decision feedback equalizer (DFE) and least mean square (LMS) were used to improve the BER performance of the in vivo radio channel. It is noticed that both the equalizers improve the BER, but DFE has better BER compared to LMS and shows a 2 dB and 4 dB performance gain of DFE over the LMS at Eb/No = 12 dB and at Eb/No = 14 dB, respectively. The current findings will help guide future researchers and designers in enhancing systems performance of an ultra-wideband in vivo wireless systems.

The statistics of error prediction among the measured data and the proposed model is RMSE = 14.46 for the right lateral and RMSE = 11.63 for the left lateral respectively. These results will help system designer in accurate link budget calculation for designing enhance implantable devices.

Research paper thumbnail of Strategies Used by Lecturers in Teaching English Productive Skills at English Study Program of FKIP UIR

Besides, speaking and writing were difficult, more effort was required on the part of the students and lecturers. It was not enough for the students to listen only. This research tried to explore the strategies used by the lecturers and their influences in developing students’ cognitive academic language proficiency by working on students’ English productive skills. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. It consisted of only one variable, which the researcher wanted to explore the description of strategies used by the lecturers and their influences on students’ English productive skills at English study program of FKIP UIR. In this research, researcher only focused on exploring the strategies used by the lecturers and describing the influences from those strat...

Research paper thumbnail of Cascaded Machine-Learning Technique for Debris Classification in Floor-Cleaning Robot Application

Applied Sciences, 2018
