Analysis and characterization of the natural iron sand of the Bah Bolon River in Simalungun Regen... more Analysis and characterization of the natural iron sand of the Bah Bolon River in Simalungun Regency has been carried out. Separation of iron sand is carried out using a 500 Gauss permanent magnet 10 times. After that, the iron sand is washed using Aquades 5 times so that the iron sand is clean of impurities and dried using an oven at a temperature of 85o C for 24 hours. Iron sand samples with a size of 250 mesh (74µm) were then characterized using SEM-EDS and VSM. Measurements using SEM-EDS show that the Sungai Bah Bolon iron sand contains 66.9% Fe, 24.3% O, and 8.8% other elements. Meanwhile, the hysteresis curve from the results of measurements with a Vibrating Sample Magnometer (VSM) shows that the Bah Bolon River iron sand has magnetic saturation (Ms), magnetic remanance (Mr), and coercivity (Hc) properties of 57.70 emu/g respectively 7.09 emu/g, and 129.93 Oe.

This research was conducted to determine the morphology, elemental content and physical propertie... more This research was conducted to determine the morphology, elemental content and physical properties of the zeolite samples before and after cleaning. The characterization used in this study is the Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX). Based on the results of SEM-EDX, it was shown that the 200 mesh zeolite sample and the zeolite that passed the filter had a non-spherical particle shape and no visible pores on the surface, while the microwave zeolite sample had an aggregate shape and visible pores on the particle surface which were very clear. In addition, in the 200 mesh zeolite sample, filtered zeolite and microwave zeolite each had an Al content percentage of 1.64%, 3.18 and 3.80% and a Si content of 7.58%, 15.15% and 18 .38%.

The problem of water pollution is a matter of great concern in world researchers' management of water resources. Heavy metals have a toxic effect on humans and the environment. This paper reviews the characteristics and methods of synthesis of MnFe2O4 and zeolite materials as adsorbents for removing heavy metal ions in water with critical properties such as surface area, magnetic properties, and adsorption capacity. We have collected data regarding the appropriate method for synthesizing MnFe2O4 and zeolite nano adsorbents. We have accumulated much data on the properties of MnFe2O4 and zeolite materials and the optimum adsorption capacity for heavy metal ions. Experimental factors such as pH, temperature, adsorption capacity, and ionic strength affecting metal ion removal have also been explored.

Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai sifat magnetik dan kandungan pasir besi yang berasal dari Sun... more Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai sifat magnetik dan kandungan pasir besi yang berasal dari Sungai Musi-Sumatera Selatan, Indonesia di Pusat Riset Material Maju-Brin. Sampel pasir besi diekstraksi menggunakan magnet permanen, kemudian dipreparasi dengan metode milling. Selanjutnya sampel dikarakterisasi menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscopy dengan Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) dan Vibrating Sampel Magnetometer (VSM). Berdasarkan hasil dari uji SEM-EDX menunjukkan bahwa partikel pasir besi dari sungai musi teraglomerasi dengan ukuran rata-rata ± 0.5 m serta terdapat kandungan pengotor (gangue) antara lain Si, Ti, Mg, Al dan Mn sehingga sampel pasir besi bersifat ferromagnetik dan semihard-magnet dengan nilai saturasi (Ms), remanensi (Mr) dan koersivitas (Hc) masing-masing sebesar 46,61 emu/g,

Telah dilakukan sintesis dan karakterisasi pada pasir besi yang berasal dari Sungai Musi-Sumatera... more Telah dilakukan sintesis dan karakterisasi pada pasir besi yang berasal dari Sungai Musi-Sumatera Selatan menggunakan metode kopresipitasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pembentukan fasa, struktur kristal, kandungan mineral magnetik dan sifat kemagnetan yang terdapat pada pasir besi. Karakterisasi yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah X-Ray Difrraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX) dan Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). Berdasarkan hasil XRD menunjukkan pasir besi yang telah disintesis menghasilkan struktur amorf dengan fasa yang terbentuk yakni Enstatite-Ferrosilite (MgSiO 3-FeSiO 3 atau (Mg, Fe) SiO 3). Hasil SEM-EDX menunjukkan partikel-partikel mengalami aglomerasi dan membentuk agregat dengan ukuran rata-rata partikel sebesar 12,495 μm serta masih terdapat kandungan pengotor (gangue) yang menempel pada bijih besi (Fe) seperti Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, V, Cr dan Ti serta terdapat penambahan unsur seperti V dan Cr yang berasal dari proses milling yang mengalami abrasi. Hasil VSM menunjukkan bahwa sampel pasir besi merupakan soft magnet dan bersifat anti-ferromagnetik dengan nilai saturasi (Ms), remanensi (Mr) dan koersivitas (Hc) masing-masing sebesar 0,53 emu/g, 0,04 emu/g dan 376,63 Oe.

Telah dibuat karbon serat serabut kelapa dengan menggunakan metode pirolisi menggunakan suhu 900o... more Telah dibuat karbon serat serabut kelapa dengan menggunakan metode pirolisi menggunakan suhu 900oC and 1300oC . Serat sabut kelapa di karbonisasi dengan suhu 500oC selama 1 jam dengan suasana inert gas N2. Selanjutnya karbon yang dibuat kemudian direndam dalam larutan KOH 25% selama 24 jam di suhu ruang, lalu dilakukan pengeringan. Pada tahap berikutnya, karbon dipirolisis dalam suasana inert gas, dengan kecepatan kenaikan suhu 5oC/menit sampai pada suhu 900 oC, ditahan selama waktu 2 jam. Perendaman kedua dilakukan dengan menggunakan HCl 2 M selama 24 jam, tiap 30 menit diaduk dengan magnetic stirer, kemudian karbon tersebut dicuci dengan menggunakan aquades sampai mendekati pH netral, lalu ditiriskan dan dikeringkan di dalam oven dengan suhu 60oC. Selanjutnya dilakukan pengujian konduktivitas listrik.
