Conceptual frameworks act like a map that gives coherence to empirical inquiry. It is a set of coherent ideas or concepts organized in a manner that makes them easy to communicate to others. Studies showed that ladies finger and fenugreek seeds are blood sugar stabilizer. The objective of this randomized active controlled trial was to assess the effect of ladies finger water versus fenugreek seeds water on the blood glucose level among subject with type 2 diabetes.Methods: Total of 180 study participants were selected and equally assigned to three groups by computer generated randomization. Group 1-received ladies finger water and oral antidiabetic drug (OAD); group 2-received fenugreek seeds water and OAD; group 3-received only OAD for 15 days. Pre and post intervention fasting blood sugar (FBS) was assessed by accu-chek Performa glucometer. Objectives: to assess the prevalence and knowledge of diabetes and hypertension among adults and ... more Objectives: to assess the prevalence and knowledge of diabetes and hypertension among adults and to find the association between knowledge level and variables. Methods: Descriptive survey was conducted among adults in the selected villages of Udupi district during July 2009-July 2010. The study subjects were interviewed to collect the details with a questionnaire. Total 385 adults were selected by non-probability convenient sampling technique. Data were entered in SPSS11.5 version and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results:Out of 385 adults, 27.8% of adults were females and 72.2% had their education up to primary level. Majority (82.2%) of the adults were having unskilled occupation and 96% of them had exposure to mass media. Majority (50.4%) of them had average knowledge on diabetes mellitus and prevalence was found to be only 5%. AIDS is becoming a disease burden in Karnataka we therefore sought to find out the knowledge and attitude of the people regarding AIDS. Hence a survey was conducted to assess the knowledge and attitude of the people regarding AIDS-related stigma in selected villages of Udupi District of Karnataka in the years 2004 and 2005. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge and attitude of the people on AIDS-related stigma and find out the association between the level of knowledge attitude and selected variables. Study Design Descriptive survey. Material and Methods:A sample size of 225 women from Udupi. Statistical Analysis Used:Frequency and percentage to describe sample characteristics, knowledge level and utilization of ICDS services. Chi-square test to find the association between knowledge and selected variables. Results:Out of 225 women 49.3% had average knowledge and 46.7% with poor knowledge regarding ICDS. Among pregnant women there was 74.1% utilization of supplementary nutrition and 7.4% utilization of immunization. Among lactating mothers there was 76.2% utilization of supplementary nutrition, 4.8% utilization of health education. Methods The study had adopted a Survey Approach which consisted of two phase. Descriptive survey design was used in the first phase to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice regarding dietary intake among 400 high school students from selected English medium schools. Exploratory survey design was used to delineate the factors influencing unhealthy dietary practices among those having unhealthy dietary practices i.e. 34 students. Results From the first phase of the study it was revealed that majority (69.5%) of the students had good knowledge, few (8.5%) had unhealthy dietary practices, only 22.8% had favourable attitude towards unhealthy dietary practice and for 82.5% of the students, parents were the influencing factor in their dietary intake. A mixed method research was conducted using Concurrent mixed method research design among PG students to know their opinion on m-learning. Google forms were used for collecting data. Themes identified were self learning, convenient/practical, new experience and stress free. The study concludes that m-learning can be used as teaching learning tool and students have positive opinion on its use even though the role of teacher is inevitable.Mobile technology is the future for higher education.

ABSTRACT Health status of the individual is influenced by health behavior and lifestyles along wi... more ABSTRACT Health status of the individual is influenced by health behavior and lifestyles along with other factors such as income, social status, education, employment, working condition, availability of health service, etc. Objective: The objective of the study were to identify the physical health status and life style practice, determine the most common health problems, to find the correlation between health status and lifestyle practice and to find the association between health status, life style practice with Body Mass Index (BMI), age, and place of residence of diploma nursing students. Method: A descriptive correlational survey design was used among the 60 Diploma Nursing students from a school of nursing Result: The results showed that majority of the students were 20 years of age, staying in hostel having BMI above 18.5. They were having good physical health status and healthy life style. Calculated r value (r=0.36, p>0.01) shows the significant relationship between health status and lifestyle practice. Around 21.66% of students used self medication for minor illness. The most common reported problem was headache (20%). But feeling of anxiousness, breathlessness and increased frequency of micturition was minimal (1.66%). There was no association between health status and lifestyle practice with demographic variables.

There has been a rapid increase in the elderly population in India between 1991 and 2001. It has been projected that by the year 2050, the elderly population would rise to about 324 million. To ensure the quality of care of elderly, nursing theories can be applied and a theory which can be explored in common for geriatric clients is the self care deficit theory. This study explains a strategical approach for the application of nursing care in elderly using Orem’s Self care deficit theory. A client with problems of deafness, joint pain and hypertension was selected. She was obese. She was able to perform her daily activities with support. Her care needs were assessed based on the theory and care was provided. The theory was found useful to give care to geriatric clients with self care problems.

The world celebrates “World Water Day” on March 22nd every year to express the concern for safe d... more The world celebrates “World Water Day” on March 22nd every year to express the concern for safe drinking water and to maintain sanitation. In this context a study to assess the knowledge and practice regarding drinking water at selected households of udupi district was conducted with the following objectives:i)Identify the common sources of drinking water, its accessibility, ii) Assess the knowledge and practice regarding water safetyand iii)Associate the knowledge and practice with selected demographic factors. The Research design used was Descriptive survey, the study was conducted atAthrady-Herebettu panchayat, Udupi district by selecting 50 houses randomly for collecting water samples and survey was conducted at 500 households. The survey found that 97.6% took water from shallow well. 93% had an open well which is an unprotected water source which leads to the contamination of the water and lead to water borne diseases. The results also show that there is a relation between socioeconomic status and knowledge and practice of safe water. It reveals that there is a relationship between practice and occupation and income of the family.
