It almost exclusively occurs above the age of 40 and more than fifty percent cases occur above the age of 70, with a slight male preponderance. Patients generally present with weight loss and jaundice and more often than not, palliative treatment remains the only modality for managing such patients. However, a high index of clinical suspicion can aid in early diagnosis even in patients with no risk factor for the disease. Incidence of the disease in ages below 35 is extremely rare and study conducted by Gaddam S et al [1] on incidence of pancreatic cancer in the USA from 2000-2018 revealed an incidence of 0.2/100000 in males and 0.3/100000 in females in the age group of 15-34. This case report is of an 18-year-old male who was diagnosed with pancreatic adenocarcinoma and was treated for the same.

METHODS: 50 cases of bilateral primary inguinal hernia were subjected to Stoppa repair and laparoscopic hernia repair randomly and as per surgeons’ choice. Evaluation of all the patients included in the study was done regarding the history, physical findings, operative details and post-operative complications. The patients were followed up at one month and six months intervals for any complications, chronic groin pain or recurrence. RESULTS: All patients presented with a swelling in the growing from 2 months to 10 years after appearance of the swelling. Highest number of patients were in the age group of 51-60 years. During post-operative stay, 2 patients had seroma and 2 patients had wound infection in Stoppa repair, while in laparoscopic repair 4 patients had port site infection. Stat...

Modern treatment has shifted toward broadspectrum antibiotics and imaging-guided percutaneous needle aspiration or percutaneous catheter drainage. This retrospective study has been carried out to evaluate etiology of liver abscess and compare effectiveness of different modalities of treatment. Methods: This is a retrospective observational study of patients of liver abscess treated during the period of March 1, 2014, to March 1, 2015, at New Civil Hospital, Surat. They were treated by different mode of intervention. All patients underwent clinical follow-up and monitoring during daily rounds until they were discharged from the hospital. Follow-up sonography was performed 24 h after intervention and repeated every 3 days in 1st week, and the size of the abscess was recorded. Criteria for successful treatment were clinical subsidence of infection and sonographic evidence of abscess resolution. Results: A t...

Research paper thumbnail of A comparative study between Total Extra-Peritoneal (TEP) repair and Trans Abdominal Pre-Peritoneal (TAPP) repair in management of inguinal hernia

National Journal of Medical Research, 2015

Background: Groin hernias are the most common conditions referred to surgeons all over the world ... more Background: Groin hernias are the most common conditions referred to surgeons all over the world and over five lakh hernia repairs are performed annually. Our purpose in this study is to compare the results of laparoscopic hernioplasty by Total Extra-Peritoneal (TEP) technique and laparoscopic Trans Abdominal Pre-Peritoneal (TAPP) technique. Methodology: This was the prospective study conducted on cases of inguinal hernia in which half cases were operated by Laparoscopic Trans Abdominal Pre-Peritoneal (TAPP) mesh repair while other half were treated by Total Extra-Peritoneal (TEP) mesh repair of inguinal hernia in New Civil Hospital, Surat. All the patients were admitted and a detailed history and clinical examination were carried out as per written proforma. Results: This comparative study consisted of 60 patients. The most common diagnosis was right indirect inguinal hernia followed by left direct inguinal hernia in the both the groups. Overall the TEP was far better procedure compared to TAPP. The indicators like mean operative, Post-op pain, post-op hospital stay (in days) and return to normal work (in days) were far better than TAPP. Conclusion: Our study supports the view that laparoscopic TEP and TAPP mesh repair of inguinal hernia is safe and efficacious, but long term Randomized Control Trials with enhanced sample size and reduced confounding factors are still required to establish the absolute superiority of TEP over TAPP.

Here we present a case report where we were able to successfully treat our patient of massive lymphedema and help him walk on his feet, by an approach where we combined Charles procedure and staged subcutaneous excision of soft tissue.

The indoor patients for a three year period were retrieved using a prepared case sheet proforma on the basis of the patient’s demographic profile and clinical findings. Patients had undergone endoscopic balloon dilation for esophageal benign stricture. In 25 patients endoscopic dilation was followed by submucosal injection of long-acting steroid triamcinolone and the remaining 25 patients were taken as a control. Results: All patients have normal dietary intake including solid food at the time of discharge. All patients under study were regularly followed quarterly. Overall stricture recurrence can be reduced by intralesional...

Blood samples and hydrocoele fluids were used to detect filarial antigen and antibody by ICT Kit, Trop-bio kit and Sevafilachek Kit. These were followed by statistical evaluation by chi2 test. 14% of cases were positive for filarial antigen and antibody in hydrocoele patient serum, while 15% of cases were positive for filarial antigen and antibody in the serum of non-hydrocoele patients. Probability is less than 0.05, which is statistically significant.
