Hence economical alternatives of natural building materials are necessary for sustainable development. Hollow concrete block was developed to reduce the use of natural building materials. Agricultural waste products like coconut shells from coconut industry have disposal problems causing environmental concerns. Various studies were done in the past, replacing a portion of the natural aggregates with broken coconut shells for manufacturing the hollow concrete blocks. In this study, we have developed a new method of forming the holes of hollow concrete blocks by placing stacks of half portion of coconut shells at the bottom with convex surface upwards to reinforce the holes by arch action. The results show that the coconut shell reinforced hollow concrete blocks have better strength as compared to open-graded hollow concrete blocks available in the market.

Deviations from that locus under nonproportional loadings have received limited attention in the literature. The general problem is quite complex because of unavoidably intertwined history effects on both damage-free plasticity and plasticity-induced damage. This work first reports on a systematic attempt at quantifying deviations from the proportional fracture locus given a fracture theory. Two generic types of nonproportional loading are considered, which are believed to represent a heuristic integrity basis for an infinity of possible loading histories. In doing so, emphasis is laid on that component of the deviation associated with damage, thus reducing the representation of plastic flow to its simplest form. The predictive capability of the simple theory is then employed to rationalize experimental trends from the literature.

Many innovations have come in pavement construction and design. The use of reclaimed aggregates in constructing pavements is one among them. Reclaimed aggregates come mainly from two sources - construction & demolition waste and asphalt pavements. The optimized use of reclaimed aggregates along with fresh aggregates helps decrease construction cost without compromising strength and durability. It also minimizes the use of virgin aggregate and helps decrease crude oil import for producing paving bitumen. Reclaimed material is first crushed and screened before using. Tests are then conducted to analyse its properties. Only those batches which satisfy standard conditions are used. Reclaimed aggregate pavements hence help pavement rehabilitation with minimum energy expenditure. This paper deals with the tests on reclaimed aggregate and their property study. The various sources and means of retrieving aggregate...
