Evaluating the quality of information sources encompasses students’ ability to determine relevance, accuracy, and overall credibility of sources and information. Moreover, the quality of information found online is extremely variable because anyone can post data on the internet, and not all online sources are equally reliable, valuable, or accurate. From a study conducted on diploma students’ assignments using rubric at an international university in Kuala Lumpur, it was found that there was a problem in digital information evaluation skills and lack of ability in using evaluation criteria, including authority, accuracy, currency, objectivity, and coverage on digital information, as well as sources among diploma students. The fu...

Conventional iris recognition systems use a frame grabber to capture a high quality image of an eye, and then system shall locate the pupil and iris boundaries, unwrap the iris image, and extract the iris image features. In this article we propose a prototype design based on pipeline architecture and combinational logic implemented on field-programmable gate array (FPGA). We achieved to speed up the iris recognition process by localizing the pupil and iris boundaries, unwrapping the iris image and extracting features of the iris image while image capturing was in progress. Consequently, live images from human eye can be processed continuously without any delay or lag. We conclude that iris recognition acceleration by pipeline architecture and combinational logic can be a complete success when it is implemented on low-cost FPGAs.

It can contribute significantly to the overall execution time of a process in a computer system. Dedicated sorting architectures can be used to accelerate applications and/or to reduce energy consumption. In this paper, we propose an efficient sorting network aiming at accelerating the sorting operation in FPGA-based embedded systems. The proposed sorting network is implemented based on an Optimized Oddeven sorting method ( ) using fully pipelined combinational logic architecture and ring shape processing. Consequently, generates the sorted array of numbers in parallel when the input array of numbers is given, without any delay or lag. Unlike conventional sorting networks, sorting network does not need memory to hold data and information about sorting, and neither need input clock to perform the sorting operations sequentially. We conclude that by using in FPGA-based image processing, we can optimize the performance of filters such as median filter which demands high performance sorting operations for realtime applications.
