Some examples of synthetic dyes are sunset yellow FCF which gives an orange color, carmoisin which gives a red color, and Tartrazine for yellow hue. Dyes those are prohibited from being used in food are listed in the Regulation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 239/MenKes/Per/V/85 concerning Certain Dyes Declared as Hazardous Materials. One of the dye declared as a hazardous material is rhodamine B. Rodamin B is still found in many cosmetic products and also in various food commodities. Long-term exposure to rhodamine B can lead to cancer and a risk of birth defects. Therefore a thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis method has been developed for the identification and determination of rhodamine B content in traditional snack products. To evaluate the effect of Ipomea batatas tuber extract (IBTE) on blood lipid profile and atheroge... more To evaluate the effect of Ipomea batatas tuber extract (IBTE) on blood lipid profile and atherogenic index in plasma (AIP) of dyslipidemia rats. First, IBTE was extracted by methanol. Fat-rich diets was given for 30 days to induce dyslipidemia in rats. Then, IBTE was given to dyslipidemia rats for 21 days. Lipid profiles in the form of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), high lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and AIP in rats were measured and analyzed. The results showed that administration of IBTE 150, 300 and 600mg/kg BW was able to improve the blood lipid profile of dyslipidemia rats, where there was a decrease in levels of TC, TG and LDL-C, and an increase in HDL-C levels. In line with this, the AIP value has also decreased. The conclusion was IBTE have affect to improve the blood lipid profile of dyslipidemia rats and the AIP.

Salah satu khasiat yang telah terbukti adalah aktivitas antioksidannya. Namun efek VCO dan madu sebagai antioksidan umumnya masih dibuktikan dalam bentuk bahan tunggal tidak dalam bentuk kombinasi keduanya. Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan dengan metode DPPH memerlukan sampel uji yang bersifat polar. Fraksi metanol dari VCO dan madu telah diketahui bersifat polar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menentukan kombinasi fraksi metanol VCO dan madu kele Bali yang memberikan aktivitas antioksidan paling kuat. VCO dan madu kele Bali diperoleh dari Desa Aan, Bali. Skrining fitokimia fraksi metanol VCO dan madu kele Bali ditentukan ditentukan dengan metode yang sesuai.
