The proposed system is used for Voltage Regulation and Reactive Power Compensation of the transmission system. It consists of reactor banks, arranged in binary order steps with fixed capacitor is referred as FC-TBSR. Normally we use SVC (TSC+TCR) for reactive power compensation and voltage regulation. But this type of SVC has some inherent drawbacks such as harmonics, more losses in TCR, SVC required the additional filter for harmonic reduction, the cost of SVC is more due additional Filter. To avoid these drawbacks a new FC-TBSR compensator has been proposed.

Their performances are evaluated based on their voltage support, dynamic response, losses, cost, and additional filter requirement, if any. In this paper, efforts are made to improve the dynamic performance parameter such as rise time, settling time, and peak overshoots. A new topology with an adaptive controller is presented, in which capacitor and reactor banks are divided in their binary values and connected in the shunt. Capacitor and reactor banks are operated by thyristorised switches. Both these banks are operated in closed-loop form as a cascade control. Amongst these, capacitor bank operates as coarse control, and reactor bank acts as fine control. For the performance enhancement, a model reference adaptive controller is used. The system identification toolbox is used to evaluate the mathematical model of the plant with Matlab. So it is good practice to use power filter to improve the power quality by reducing the voltage or current harmonics. In this paper, the performance of the Series-Shunt Power Quality Compensator (S-SPQC) is presented under unbalanced and distorted system conditions. In this topology two type of active filters i.e. Series and shunt are integrated to accomplish the goal of improving voltage quality and current quality respectively. In combined approach of S-SPQC, Series part is designed by using Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) technique while shunt part is designed by using Indirect Current Control (ICC) technique. The MATLAB/ Simulink based simulation results are graphically shown as well as tabulated in detail which reflects the performance of the S-SPQC control method discussed in this paper.
