Yet, after all these years the
underlying mechanisms of copper mediated cell death in various
microbes remain unclear. We had explored the hypothesis that copper
mediated increased levels of lipid peroxidation in the membrane fatty
acids is responsible for increased killing in Escherichia coli. In this
study we show that in both gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus)
and gram negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacteria there is a
strong correlation between copper mediated cell death and increased
levels of lipid peroxidation. Interestingly, the non-spore forming
gram positive bacteria as well as gram negative bacteria show similar
patterns of cell death, increased levels of lipid peroxidation, as well
as genomic DNA degradation, however there is some difference in
loss...

This competency-based, case study guide is designed to facilitate conversations about expectations and realities of what it means to be a professional online. To help you discuss ways to support digital-ethical professional practice in higher education, we have identified a few scenarios to discuss and develop a positive culture online. We encourage your to start an open dialogue on these issues and identify potential solutions to address unwanted interactions and inappropriate behaviors in professional online networks. Please feel free to bring these case studies back to your campus and/or graduate programs to continue the conversations. The purpose of this work is to analyze the efficiency of air purification in the main elements of the system. The analysis of efficiency of the multistage air filtration systems was carried out, the distribution of dust concentration in the main elements of the air conditioning and air filtration systems was determined and the concentration of dust particles with a size > 0.5 μm in air was determined depending on the air exchange rate over time in the equipped state.

In this account the exergy efficiency for the schemes under consideration and exergy losses in its main elements has been made. The schemes of exergy flows and their losses for the research system of the air preparation system for warm and cold seasons of the year have been obtained. The analysis of exergy loss allows choosing the most optimal air preparation scheme for clean rooms of microelectronics depending on the climatic conditions of natural-technical geosystem.

In this paper, two propagation prediction models which relate signal strength log of distance are presented and compared with empirical results measured in a lecture building. For the empirical measurement, a TP-LINK router and a laptop are used to implement 2.4 GHz, indoor point to point ad hoc wireless network in our lecture building. Attenuation parameters of obstacles used in the prediction model are estimated from the empirical measurement by using statistical approach. Finally, the accuracy of the prediction models is proof by comparing empirical measurement results with the help of least square model fitting. Index Terms— propagation models, free space loss, path losses, empirical approach, statistical approach

At present one of the conditions for the successful development of microelectronics is to provide it with a modern infrastructure, an integral part of which is the multistage air filtration system of clean rooms. In this article, a mathematical and computer assessment of exergy efficiency of the multistage air filtration system for clean rooms has been made. Using the author’s program "ExEnergy" exergy losses are determined in essential elements of investigated systems depending on environmental parameters. The exergy balance of the system was compiled on the basis of which Grassmann diagrams of fluxes and exergy losses are constructed for the warm and cold periods of the year. The analysis of Grassmann diagram allowed to identify problem elements of the system as well as to develop practical measures to reduce exergy losses of the system as...

Data popularity is a key factor in data replication as popular files are accessed most frequently and then they become unstable and unpredictable. Moreover, replicas placement is one of key issues that affect the performance of the system such as load balancing, data locality etc. Data locality is a fundamental problem to data-parallel applications that often happens (i.e., a data block should be copied to the processing node when a processing node does not possess the data block in its local storage), and this problem leads to the decrease in performance. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a dynamic replication management scheme based on data popularity and data locality; it includes replica allocation and replica placement algorithms. Data locality, disk bandwidth, CPU processing speed and storage utilization are considered in the proposed data placement algorithm in o...

Another type of dangerous fever is dengue fever. Dengue fever is one of the most important mosquito-borne viral diseases in the world. Approximately 40% of the world population lives in the high-risk area of dengue fever, in which 400 million get infected and 22,000 die from severe dengue fever annually. In any case, it has been an awesome test utilizing blood and urine test for the doctors to distinguish the level of hazard in dengue patients. The main aim of proposed system is to reduce this unnecessary urine test and blood test for patients. Datasets are gathered from hospital of Lao PDR, which incorporates around 100 ground truth data containing numeric attributes. In the proposed fever classification tool, the user can choose the suffered symptoms. Then the system gives the result according to the ...

This paper analyzes the thermodynamic efficiency of the research system we make a balance for a scheme of air-conditioning for clean rooms on the basis of which absolute and relative characteristics of the system are determined, and then Grassmann diagrams are constructed. These fully reflect the fluxes and losses of exergy. The analysis of Grassmann diagrams in warm and cold periods of the year shows that to increase the coefficient of exergy in the warm period of the year (+13 °С). It is necessary to reduce exergy losses during the processes of humidification and heating of air, and in cold period (−3 °С) exergy losses are evenly distributed, and the system should be improved.

VP23 was expressed inEscherichia coli and purified to homogeneity by Ni-agarose affinity chromatography. In vitro capsid assembly experiments demonstrated that the purified protein was functionally active. Its physical status was examined by differential scanning calorimetry, ultracentrifugation, size exclusion chromatography, circular dichroism, fluorescence spectroscopy, and 8-anilino-1-naphthalene sulfonate binding studies. These studies established that the bacterially expressed VP23 exhibits properties consistent with its being in a partially folded, molten globule state. We propose that the molten globule represents a functionally relevant intermediate which is necessary to allow VP23 to undergo interaction with VP19C in the process of capsid assembly.

Using a longitudinal study, we explored the way a self-directed learning network sustains ongoing professional development and knowledge sharing by examining the archives of 203 structured online discussions. In mapping the chat topics to published core competencies, we discovered that this advising community scaffolds on-demand learning for discussion of advising approaches and strategies, distribution of resources for supporting student success, collective sharing of personal advising philosophies, and encouragement to engage in reflective assessment about advising practice. Community members are motivated to contribute to networked practice to enhance professional development activities, share open educational practices, and support advising competency development in an occupational community of practice.

Transparent outcome reporting requires a thorough methodologic design, dedicated prospective data collection process, and preferably no interference with the efficacy of daily practice. The primary aim of this article is to describe how these bottlenecks are tackled with an automated prospective rhinoplasty outcome routine. The secondary aim is to motivate others by describing practical benefits encountered during implementation. Methods: Since April 2014, 269 consecutive patients referred for functional-aesthetic (revision) rhinoplasty were included. The Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation scale, the Utrecht Questionnaire, and visual analogue scales were offered to all patients before primary consultation and follow-up to translate the subjective burden of nasal problems and change herein following surgery, into data. These data were exported for real-time automated outcome analysis supported by graphic output through a customized Web-based dashboard. Results: One hundred seventy-one patients proved eligible for rhinoplasty, of which 121 had sufficient follow-up. The dashboard provides an overview of demographic characteristics of different populations, reasons why rhinoplasties were not performed, and real-time short- and long-term change in functional and aesthetic outcome in both primary and revision cases. Practical benefits of the instruments used are presented and discussed. Conclusions: Routine prospective outcome monitoring provides an evidence-based response to the increasing demand for transparency in health care. The dashboard proved valuable during patient counseling, patient selection, and management of expectations and has the potential to compare rhinoplasty results between surgeons and institutions, provided that the populations share similar characteristics. CLINICAL QUESTION/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic, IV.
