The composite was prepared by the in situ polymerization of aniline. Mass of purified diatomite was mixed with a solution containing aniline dissolved in 2M hydrochloric acid at room temperature. The solid obtained was characterized using the SEM, XRD and FTIR analyses. The kinetic adsorption of dyes was described using the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The adsorption isotherm of the RR 120 dye can be fitted by the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model. However, the adsorption isotherm of the AB dye can be better fitted by the BET model.

Research paper thumbnail of Obtaining adsorbents from acid and acid-thermal activation of bentonite for chlorothalonil pesticide removal

Water Practice and Technology, 2020

The second protocol concerns the acid attack of bentonite combined with thermal treatment at temperatures of 100 and 200 °C. The obtained adsorbents were characterized by different analyses techniques such as chemical composition, X-ray diffraction (XRD), specific surface area and pHPZC. The modified bentonites were used for removal of Chlorothalonil (Chl) from aqueous solution. The adsorption behavior of the pesticide was studied under different experimental conditions of pH, contact time, concentration of Chl and temperature of solution. The adsorption of Chl followed pseudo-second order kinetics and was described by the Freundlich equation. Thermodynamic study revealed that Chl adsorption was endothermic and physical in nature.

This material is used in many fields such as drilling, foundry, painting, ceramics, etc. It can also be applied in the treatment of wastewaters from chemical industries by means of adsorption. In this chapter the physicochemical properties of bentonite were determined by using several analyses techniques such as chemical composition, XRD, FTIR and SBET. The bentonite was intercalated by aluminum poly-cations solution and cethytrimethyl ammonium bromide. The acid activation of natural bentonite was performed by treatment with hydrochloric acid at different concentrations. The surface water pollutants removed by the modified bentonites are bemacid yellow E-4G and reactive MX-4R dyes, and fungicide chlorothalinil. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the related isotherms. The pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models were used to describe the kinetic data. Research paper thumbnail of Impact of the Municipal Solid Waste ( MSW ) Leachate on the Waters . Analysis and Treatment by the Reeds

The proliferation of the wild discharge contributes to the contamination of surfaces and the grou... more The proliferation of the wild discharge contributes to the contamination of surfaces and the ground waters by the leachate. This effluent is product of the degradation and the biochemical transformation of the fermentable matter. The subject of this study is to determinate the physicochemical parameters of leachate generated by municipal solid waste in Mostaganem city (western of Algeria). These effluents were to origin of natural treatment by the reeds Arundo donax. The results of analysis show that the leachate is characterized by the presence in strong concentrations of the organic and minerals pollutants. We also raised the presence of heavy metals in considerable quantity. The concentrations of all elements analyzed after the treatment decreased. The reeds could resist to aggressive medium, they develop more by keeping their physical aspect with the appearance of new buds, stems and roots.

XRD, MEB and chemical composition analysis were used to characterize the adsorbent material. XRD analysis identified illite as the major clay mineral. The effects of contact time and temperature (298, 303, 313 and 323 K) on the malachite green adsorption have been examined. The results indicated that dye removal was seen to increase with increasing contact time until equilibrium. The experimental isotherm data were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. Data isotherms were good fitted by Freundlich equation. Two kinetic models, the pseudo first order and second-order equations, were selected to follow the adsorption process. Kinetic parameters, rate constants, equilibrium adsorption capacities and correlation coefficients, for each kinetic equation were calculated and discussed. It was shown that the adsorption of malachite gr...

Journal of Materials and Environmental Sciences, Oct 1, 2017

The adsorption of Chlorothalonil fungicide from aqueous solution onto raw and activated bentonite... more The adsorption of Chlorothalonil fungicide from aqueous solution onto raw and activated bentonite samples was investigated as a function of parameters such as pH, contact time, and temperature. The acid activation of natural bentonite was performed by treatment with hydrochloric solution of different concentrations. The high adsorption capacity of chlorothalonil was obtained by activated bentonite at 323 K in the range of pH 3-4 for 60 min of contact time. It was be 32.01 and 42.88 mg/g for raw and bentonite activated by 1N hydrochloric acid, respectively. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the related isotherms. Freundlich equation has shown the best fitting with the experimental data. The pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models were used to describe the kinetic data. The changes of enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs free energy of adsorption process were determined. The results indicated that the adsorption of chlorothalonil occurs spontaneously as an endothermic process.

These materials have been characterized by different techniques: X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy the analysis results confirm the structural in the basal distance from 15 Å to 12.80 Å. This suggests a partial exfoliation of the clay. The modified bentonite has a zero point of charge equal to 6.9. The raw and modified bentonite was used as an adsorbent for BB41. The optimum of these found parameters are a solid/solution ratio: 1 g L–1, pH = 7 and equilibrium contact time 1 h. The kinetics of adsorption perfectly follows the pseudosecond-order model as well as that of intraparticle diffusion. The isotherms are of type S, they are well described by the Langmuir–Freundlich model (R2 > 0.96). The adsorption of BB41 is spontaneous, exothermic and disordered fo...

Research paper thumbnail of Removal of pentachlorophenol from aqueous solutions by dolomitic sorbents

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, May 1, 2006

The partial decomposition of dolomite carried out within the temperature range 600-1000 degrees C... more The partial decomposition of dolomite carried out within the temperature range 600-1000 degrees C provides new sorbents, called dolomitic sorbents. Their surface properties and identification by X-ray diffraction are discussed. The lowest specific surface area value was found for the raw dolomite, while the highest value was achieved by the D-1000 sample. The adsorption equilibrium of pentachlorophenol from aqueous solutions on the examined sorbents was investigated at 30, 40, and 50 degrees C via a bath process. Langmuir, Freundlich, Langmuir-Freundlich, and Redlich-Petersen models were fitted to experimental equilibrium data, and their goodnesses of fit are compared. The adjustable parameters of Langmuir-Freundlich and Redlich-Petersen isotherms were estimated by nonlinear least-squares analysis. Langmuir and Freundlich models were found insufficient to explain the adsorption equilibrium, while Langmuir-Freundlich and Redlich-Petersen isotherms provide the best correlation of the pentachlorophenol adsorption onto dolomitic sorbents.
