Antiretroviral adherence is the second strongest predictor of progression to AIDS and death, after CD4 count. Incomplete adherence to ART is common in all groups of treating individuals. The commonest cause of ART failure is poor adherence. Several factors associated with poor adherence include a poor patient-clinician relationship, high pill burden, forgetfulness, mental depression, lack of patient education, inability of patients to identify their medications, drug toxicity, beliefs about treatment and the impression of being too ill for treatment. Counseling steps include establishing the rapport between the patient and pharmacist, developing individual treatment plan and using of information sheets, compliance aids, leaflets can be helpful in better understanding about the ART regimen they are taking. The key to successful is educating the patient before the initiation of therapy...

It was discovered a century back (1907) characterized by defects in language use, visual-spatial perception, ability to learn, solve problems, perform mathematical calculations, thinking abstractly, and making appropriate judgments, affecting more than 4.5 million people in United States. 100,000 people die of AD every year, nevertheless hundred years have been passed after the discovery of AD but the appropriate pathology was not yet determined only it still floats in the hypotheses in contrast to the inventions in the medicine so far, hypothesis like amyloid cascades, neurofibrillary tangles, are well established but with incomplete benefits from them, in recent days the role of estrogen, cholesterol are also being included in AD pathology. Treatment lines are following just to improve the dementia but not able to concentrate in to the pathology, all these made the AD i...

Metronidazole topical gel is used in the treatment of fungating tumours, rosacea. The drug was chosen because unavailable micro sponge dosage forms in the market in order to decrease the skin irritation by preventing excess accumulation of drug on epidermis. The size of the micro sponges can be varied, usually from 5-300 μm in diameter, depending upon the degree of smoothness or after-feel required for the end formula. The micro sponge system can also avoid unnecessary accumulation of ingredients within the epidermis and the dermis. Potentially, they can reduce considerably the irritation of effective drugs wit...

There are many interrelated factors like psychological, behavioral and treatment leading to cause nonadherence to medications in elders. Pharmacist contributions in the geriatric care can tremendously improve the compliance and adherence in geriatric patients. Patient education has been suggested as a primary means of improving patient compliance and has been shown to be successful in many c auses. Pharmacist involving geriatric patient care with proper motivation, education and support the elderly to overcome compliance difficulties. Pharmacy students should be encouraged to form a relationship with the elderly patients. The most commonly performed major elective gynecological surgery. The term Peripartum hysterectomy is used when performed either mostly by emergency as a maternal life saving measure within 24 hours after vaginal or abdominal delivery or as electively when indicated. OBJECTIVE: To study the incidence of peripartum hysterectomy; to analyze its causes, risk factors, complications and feto-maternal morbidity and mortality at newly established tertiary care teaching hospital.

Uterine fibroids are the commonest benign tumours of female genital tract with a prevalence of 20 to 50% in women of reproductive age. Fibroids may be classified as submucous, intramural or sub-serous. It is often assumed that fibroids cause infertility since pregnancies do occur after myomectomy and other treatments where the fibroids are removed. The treatment of fibroids has historically been surgery, usually hysterectomy. Myomectomy is an option in women wishing to maintain fertility and for those desiring to keep their uterus. The position of the uterine fibroid plays important role in infertility. The presence of sub-mucous fibroid decreases the fertility rate. Subserosal fibroids do not affect the fertility rate but removing those does increase fertility. Surgical management is limited to non-pregnant uterus. Fibroid coexisting pregnancy, prevalence is 0.3-2.6%, can be asso...

Objectives of the work are evaluation of sensitivity and specificity of the optoelectronic method in the detection of CIN and cervical cancer. The present study shows correlation between the pNOR number and sensitivity/specificity of the optoelectronic method. The study included 293 patients with abnormal cervical cytology result and the following examinations: examination with the use of the optoelectronic method-Truscreen, colposcopic examination, and histopathology biopsy. Specificity of the optoelectronic method for LGSIL was estimated at 65.70%, for HGSIL and squamous cell carcinoma ofcervix amounted to 90.38%. Specificity of the optoelectronic method used to confirm lack of cervical pathology was estimated at 78.89%.The field under the ROC curve for the optoelectronic method was estimated at 0.88 (95% CI, 0.84-0.92) which shows high diagnostic value of the test in the detection of HGSIL and squamous cell carcinoma. The optoelectronic method is characterized by high usefulness in the detection of CIN, present in the squamous epithelium and squamous cell carcinoma of cervix. In conclusion, we suggest that TruScreen holds the potential to detect lesions that might be missed by cytology alone and clarify unsatisfactory or ASCUS cytology results. With regard to patients, they can benefit from more rapid follow-up and early treatment. We also noticed that the women were happy with the real time results, which are now available using TruScreen. TruScreen technology seems to have a high potential to improve and standardize the screening of the cervical carcinoma.

Truscreen uses low levels of electric signals and light to examine the cervix by gently touching the surface of the cervix with a hand-held wand. The system comprises a hand piece, console and single use sensor (SUS).The hand piece uses advanced electro-optical biosensors to measure the response of cervical tissue to light together with tissue capacitance. Unlike cytology, Truscreen does not only examine surface epithelial cells. With the aim of to screen the Cervix with truscreen for detection of Pre cancerous and cancerous lesions of the cervix to minimize morbidity, mortality, to advance the health and to improve the quality of life of women. An ongoing pilot study was conducted at Govt. Maternity Hospital; Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, with duration of 3 months (August to October 2008) by including 50 porous women were screened and within t...
