Context: Mixed dentition space analysis helps in determining the discrepancy between the availabl... more Context: Mixed dentition space analysis helps in determining the discrepancy between the available and required space in each dental arch during the mixed dentition period; further, it helps to diagnose and plan the treatment of developing malocclusion. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the applicability of Tanaka and Johnston's and Moyer's methods of predicting the size of permanent canines and premolars and compare the tooth size between the right and left sides between males and females, and also to compare the predicted values of mesiodistal widths of permanent canines and premolars from Tanaka and Johnston and Moyer's method with the measured values. Materials and methods: The sample consisted of 58 sets of study models, of which 20 were girls and 38 were boys, that were collected from the children of the 12-15 year age-group. A digital vernier gauge, whose beaks were sharpened, was used to measure the mesiodistal widths of the individual teeth in order to increase accuracy. Statistical analysis: The two-tailed paired t-tests were used to assess the bilateral symmetry of the mesiodistal diameter of all measured individual teeth. Results and conclusion: It was concluded that Tanaka and Johnston's method could not accurately predict the mesiodistal widths of unerupted canines and premolars of children of Kanpur city due to the high variability in estimation, whereas the least statistically significant difference was obtained only at 65% level of Moyer's probability chart for male, female, and combined sample.

Periapical lesions usually develop in non vital teeth as a result of a chronic aggression by the ... more Periapical lesions usually develop in non vital teeth as a result of a chronic aggression by the presence of pathogenic microorganisms into the root canal which may appear as radiolucent lesions in radiographs. Treatment of such lesions varies from non surgical to surgical means depending upon individual case. In the era of minimally invasive dentistry, non surgical endodontic approach has been highly recommended to promote periapical healing. Calcium hydroxide plays a pivotal role in such procedures since it has very effective anti-bacterial properties and special ability of tissue repair by hard tissue formation. The case report series below describes the regression of periapical lesions using nonsurgical endodontic treatment along with calcium hydroxide based medicament.

Aim: To Compare and Evaluate the Flexural Strength and Surface Roughness of Lucitone-FRS, Valplas... more Aim: To Compare and Evaluate the Flexural Strength and Surface Roughness of Lucitone-FRS, Valplast (Flexible Denture Base Materials) and Trevalon (Heat Cure Denture Base Material). Materials and Methods: Three stainless steel master dies of dimension 65 x 20 x 3 mm were fabricated and were invested in standard metal denture flask. A total of 60 specimens were fabricated with 20 specimens of each type of denture base material. Fabrication of a Heat Cure Acrylic Denture Base Resin Specimen was Done Followed by Fabrication of Flexible Denture Base Resins Specimen. In the same manner, samples were fabricated for Lucitone-FRS, and Valplast. These specimens were further divided into two subsets; containing 10 specimens each from each group. In one subset, Flexural Strength was Measured while in the other subset, Surface Roughness was measured. The Surface Roughness values were measured using a surface testing machine Mitutoyo-SJ-Series 201 (Japan). The flexural strength of specimens was measured using a 3-point bending test device on universal testing machine. All the results were compiled and Analyzed by SPSS software. Results: Flexural strength was found maximum in the VALPLAST and minimum in LUCITONE. Surface Roughness Test was done on total 10 samples of each material, i.e. Lucitone-FRS, Valplast and Trevalon. Results for Surface Roughness Test are Valplast has maximum Surface-Roughness followed by Trevalon and minimum in Lucitone-FRS on both polished and unpolished surface. Conclusion: Trevalon can be ideal in cross-arch stabilization cases and Valplast and Lucitone FRS can be successfully used in cases of small arch complete dentures and removable partial dentures. Clinical Significance: The selection of the right denture base material is imperative as it largely affects the overall clinical outcomes and comforts. Results of the present study would aid the dentist in the selection of ideal denture base materials for specific cases like those requiring Cross Arch Stabilization, Small Arch Complete Dentures, and Removable Partial D entures.
