Public health is presently being threatened as a result of the inhabitant’s exposure and exposed ... more Public health is presently being threatened as a result of the inhabitant’s exposure and exposed waste handlers to untreated sludge in Bwari, Abuja arising from pit toilets and septic tanks. Universal, unhygienic conditions are answerable to above three million deaths yearly, with low sanitation level as main cause in developing countries and slurry from under developed nations contain high parasite concentration with small heavy metal content, therefore analysis and field survey required in achieving a viable sludge management in developing nations are investigated. Laboratory analysis of septic sludge samples without additive reveals lime (calcium oxide) addition and wood ash active in bringing down the Ascaris count to zero value. Wood ash yielded better results with roughly half of the latter’s amount added to accomplish Og-1 value of the last Ascaris count, whereas lime addition generates an alkaline environment that is not profitable to microorganism survival besides diminishe...

Diverse flood danger regulation standard was implemented in various region of the universe yet flood occurrence perseveres. This paper appraises key sources of floor hazard in cities along with different floor risk regulation standard in order to develop acceptable floor danger mitigation standard for built up areas. Pertinent information for analyzing the component of flood risk and tendency in flood danger mitigation standard were obtained through corresponding empirical learning and theories. The outcome shows the incapability of non-structural as well as structural standard to totally terminate flood happenings. Flood hazard in cities can sustainably minimize by consolidating present measures together with partial logical transformation of land operation to its natural position.

It is certain, conversely, that without water there would be no life of any form in the world and that, without water readily accessible in ample quantity and free of pathogenic creatures, man’s advancement is enormously hindered. Though with no actual counting possibility, billions of man-days of labour are indubitably lost yearly because of sickness and death from water-borne diseases. Ill-advisedly, the regions which can least afford this economic damage are the dwellings where such illness and death are most proliferating. The obligation for decreasing this terrific waste falls on governments and, precisely, on health managements. It is the aim of this critique to assist the government executives who must meet this task among the health medicals officers, public health administrators and civil or sanitary engineers who engaged in public health, and sa...

Research paper thumbnail of Influence of wastes management and viable improvement in Nigeria: case study of Kubwa, Abuja in Northern Nigeria

The paper investigate waste management and viable improvement in Nigeria with specific reference ... more The paper investigate waste management and viable improvement in Nigeria with specific reference to Kubwa, F.C.T, Abuja. The region was divided into three districts namely: District A (south-north), District B (west - east) and District C (central zone). Survey research stratagem was implemented with questionnaire as main tools applied for data gathering which were dispensed to twenty households carefully picked randomly making total of 60families that were studied. Illiteracy and income level was discovered has main cause of waste management difficult, equally city waste characterization for the Kubwa – Abuja reveals paper, food leftovers and water sachets as the highest waste created, while delivery bag and flexible bag are consistently utilized to dispose waste since bags are stress-free in disposing and low-priced. The waste storage frequency is between 12 – 24 hours whereas waste throwing frequency follows regularly once and biweekly gatherings. Some respondents have open dumps...

Research paper thumbnail of Household waste burning techniques and correlated respiratory indicators in Northern Nigeria: Case study of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja Nigeria

IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019

The household waste burning practice and impacts of the waste burning emission on respiratory hea... more The household waste burning practice and impacts of the waste burning emission on respiratory health of the populace in the Gwagwalada Local Council Area happens frequently, though not well recorded. The goal of this study was to quantify the waste burning occurrence as well as scrutinize the correlation between waste burning practice and respiratory problem in Northern Nigeria with Gwagwalada as case study because is an example of rural settlement growing to urbanites. Questionnaire was utilized to accumulate information from houses in Gwagwalada Area Council Community, Abuja. Total of 150 participants were enrolled and their retorts on household waste burning besides respiratory symptoms were investigated. The participants indicated that their neighbors burn waste frequently, with 67 (44.7%) of them from Gwagwalada Local government (rural zone). The local waste experts collected refuse from 97.0% of these participants at least once per week in the enlightened zone and central but ...

Research paper thumbnail of Influence of hydrated lime and bitumen on different lateritic soil samples: case study of Sheda-Abuja, Nigeria

Soil samplings S1, S2, S3, S4, and S5 was collected from Dualization of Sheda - Abaji, Abuja, F.C.T, Ni-geria and augment with 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12% of hydrated lime and bitumen. Laboratory tests like Consistency (Atterberg limit), California Bearing Ratio (C.B.R), compaction and sieve scrutiny were done on the soil sampling. The study exposed that construc-tive effects were gotten via the addition of hydrated lime and bitumen in order to augment the strength of weak soils. All the 5 samplings have C.B.R values of 48.0% with hydrated lime as additives, whereas bitumen additive is 40.60%. Introduction of addi-tives enriched the soil samplings from weak materials to an excellent base material with C.B.R values above 40%. Hence, aug-mentation of lateritic soil samplings from the studied locality could be perform efficiently by using l...

Contrary to wastewater administration, the development schemes to handle faecal sludges that can adapt to the prevalent situations in unindustrialized nations, have long been deserted. The authors outline the existing situation and converse on certain novel issues of faecal sludges management like the Omni Processor, reinvented toilet, Solar-Powered Poop Blaster, Power of pee prototype; Self contain toilet and sewage system, Duke's Community Stand-alone waste facility and Nano-membrane toilet or waterless toilet. At the completion cusp, cities can think about substituting sewer systems with more ecologically friendly devices.
