After cryogenic treatment, the tool life is significantly increased by 92%. The cutting tool's cross-section is completely altered by the cryogenic treatment, which is a one-time, permanent subzero heat treatment. The cryogenic treatment is carried out with deep freezing of cutting tool materials to enhance physical and mechanical properties. Despite the promising results obtained with cryogenic treatment of tool steels, there are still contradictions regarding its benefits, and there is no consensus regarding its mechanisms in the steel microstructure. The goal of this work is to investigate the optimum heat treatment process parameters together with the cryogenic treatment. The influence of cryogenic treatment in tool steel was dependent on the previous austenitization temperature. No significant reduction in retained austenite was observed by deep cryogenic treatment. The benefits achieved in the resistance to abrasive wear and toughness is associated with a lower amount of carbon in the martensite, together with finer and more homogeneous carbide precipitation. This study reviews the effects of cryogenic treatment on microstructure, tribological properties of tool steels and machining applications of cutting tool by investigating the surface and performing the surface characterization test like SEM. The economy of cutting tool can be achieved by deep cryogenic treatment.

However, these factors could not be maintained in the future as the base stock of petroleum is non-renewable and concerns over environmental pollution of mineral oil have increased. The pollution of the environment caused by mineral oil is one of the concerns and could not be taking too lightly. The oil spillage into the land and water may happen mainly due mineral oil. This concern has promoted research into biodegradable lubricants such as vegetable oils, since vegetable oils do not contaminate or pollute the environment. Furthermore, vegetable oils have properties such as good lubrication, high flash point, high biodegradability, and low volatility with adding additives. In this paper various vegetable oil tribological behaviour review are taken.

The tribological properties of polyamides considered good, but yet different fillers as solid lubricants and fiber are added into polymer matrixes to improve their performance in sliding systems. Carbon fibers also have good stiffness, strength hence it can be used to reduced wear rate .PTFE used for better COF. These properties can also be improved further when suitable particulates, which causes increase their strength and hence the load carrying capacity of the components. The objective of this Dissertation work is to evaluate the influence of test speed and load on the wear behavior of polyamide 66 reinforced with increasing amount of carbon fibers and also fix amount of PTFE, under dry condition.

The effects Of additive formulations namely Hexagonal Boron Nitrate (hBN) on the viscosity index ... more The effects Of additive formulations namely Hexagonal Boron Nitrate (hBN) on the viscosity index of lubricating oils (base oils) namely 20W40 temperatures 30 to 90 were investigated. The base oils were blended with the additives in different proportions. The results gave a viscosity index of 96 and 98 respectively for 20W40 without additives and with additives. The results revealed that 261 additive formulations gave the highest increase in viscosity in all proportions increasing as the weight of the additive increases. Generally, all the four additive formulations used improved the viscosities of all the blends in all the proportions and at both temperatures. The blends can be classified as very high viscosity index being above 110. This means that they will undergo very little change in viscosity with temperature extremes and so can be considered to have stable viscosity.

Due to the complex set-up and geometrical, kinematical, dynamical influence parameters, surface grinding is rarely applied within limited-lot production. Surface crushing is a basic procedure for last machining of parts requiring smooth surfaces and exact resiliences. As contrasted and other machining forms, crushing is exorbitant activity that ought to be used under ideal conditions.. Although widely used in industry. The project work takes the following input processes parameters namely Work speed, feed rate and depth of cut. The main objective of this work is to predict the grinding behaviour and achieve optimal operating processes parameters. A software package is utilized which integrates these various models to simulate what happens during surface grinding processes. Predictions from this simulation will be further analysed by calibration with actual d...

The case for ambient sensing for human activity detection

Recently, the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to highly-improved computation and communication capabilities even within the smallest devices, giving rise to wearable devices. These devices can collect useful data about movements and thus enable detecting human activities. However, both traditional methods (multimedia) and wearable device-based methods completely expose users, resulting in severe privacy issues. Thus, it is crucial to be able to still detect these activities without compromising the user's privacy. In this paper, we make a case where ambient sensing (sensors that collect data representing only environmental changes, such as temperature, lighting, etc.) can be used to detect human activities. Since the available data corresponds to only the status of the surrounding environment, the user privacy can be preserved. We demonstrate which aspects of ambient sensing methods are desirable and what types of applications can benefit from them.
