UPFC is able to control both transmitted real and reactive power independently, at the sending and receiving ends of the transmission line. Also, the paper discusses UPFC modelling within the context of optimal power flow (OPF) solutions. The UPFC model is very flexible; it allows the control of active and reactive powers and voltage magnitude simultaneously. It can also be set to control one or more of these parameters in any combination or to control none of them. Considerable progress has been achieved in UPFC modelling intended for conventional load flow studies but here more complex issue of UPFC modelling intended for OPF solution is addressed.

2012 2nd International Conference on Power, Control and Embedded Systems, 2012

ABSTRACT The proposed method of order reduction of linear time invariant continuous systems deals... more ABSTRACT The proposed method of order reduction of linear time invariant continuous systems deals with determination of reduced system by equating the unit step responses of both the systems. First the denominator polynomial of the reduced system transfer function is found using the Differentiation method of order reduction. For finding the numerator polynomial, the unit step responses of both the systems are equated and power series expansion of exponentials occurring in both sides of the equation is done and then by equating the coefficients of all the powers of t, the residues are determined to finally find the numerator polynomial coefficients and reduced system transfer function. Only linear systems of equations are required to be solved in the proposed method 1 .

Two different objectives have been considered and the results are compared. Installation of UPFC requires a two-step approach. First, the proper location of these devices in the network must be ascertained and then, the settings of its control parameters optimized. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is demonstrated.
