This helps the utilities to reach at remote locations. Mapping of the consumer through control center is achieved through interfacing of coupling circuits that leads to distribution load management. This paper presents designing of broadband coupling circuit that satisfies specific signal transmission, appropriate bandwidth, and limited number of components. The paper also discusses the significant parameter variations during capacitive couplings and inductive couplings for passive and active network topologies.

They reach more homes than coaxial cable systems or telephone lines and hence broadband can be delivered everywhere where these lines reach. This paper presents characterization of power line channel for digital data transfer over low voltage distribution lines system. The work is based on the power line characterization using scattering matrix approach. It is demonstrated that varying network topologies of indoor power line channel can be modelled using two-port network theory for accurate results. The comparison of transfer function is obtained for two wire and coaxial cabling techniques. The simulations are performed to observe and reveal that the characteristics of channel depend on frequency, termination type, and cable type. The authors also make an effort in the direction of designing and simulating a typical coupling circuit under different load conditions.

In this paper, an effort is made to simulate and model a broadband over power line communication channel to investigate and compare the channel model gain and phase profiles over a frequency range of 0-20 MHz with different and moderate path numbers, differing path parameters and varying line lengths. The results observed from the performance profiles of the work indicate suitability and possibility of transmission over the power line channels. The attenuation is however high under certain conditions.

The paper also strives to emphasize upon the need to prepare ourselves for a timed roadmap for this technology which requires no new cabling or infrastructure, instead using the long established power grid provided by electrical companies. The authors have tried to gain attention of the readers, utilities, regulatories and all involved in power sector, IT sector and communication sector to look and analyse the potential of this technology for the future of smart grids. The objective of this paper is also to highlight on the technology in terms of its salient features, working, drawbacks, deployments and future challenges associated in the implementation plans. The suitability of BPL as a smart grid technology has been simulated and studied for an indoor feeder and the results are analyzed.

They are capital intensive units and need to be monitored for faults. Faults in transformers leading to their failure are repugnant. Thus, there is a need to detect such faults at an initial level. This paper aims to detect, diagnose the nature and cause of mechanical faults, their identity, type and their locale using frequency response analysis.

Many efforts have been made to replace the conventional manually controlled system with the sophisticated automatic control systems. Basically, the work carried out in this paper proposes an approach to intimate the concerned authority when the water level exceeds the danger mark to give an alert to the public via GSM technology, apart from the regular monitoring and controlling the water level. By implementing the proposed system, the man power required for continuous monitoring the water level in the dams will be reduced. Further, under abnormal conditions, it provides an alert to human beings well in advance, so that loss of property and life can be minimized.

Energy Procedia, 2012

The robustness of multiple access schemes such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFD... more The robustness of multiple access schemes such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) as needed for the wireless communication system is well proven. There is now an increasing demand to transmit digital video signals and other digital information in an indoor environment. A solution to avoid the prohibitive cost of installing dedicated wires for this application is to transmit data over the power line. As the medium voltage and low voltage power lines transmit such high frequency communication signals, these signals undergo attenuation due to line loss and impedance mismatch because of branches and loads. Thus a signal which is received at the receiver end is not a replica of transmitter end signal, signifying of symbol error. In order to understand more about OFDM technique of transmission of data, in this paper we have carried out the performance analysis of transmission of digital data over indoor power lines using OFDM. The simulation results of the performance analysis show that 16-QAM symbol constellation is fully recovered and symbol error can be reduced significantly by suppressing some weak carriers.
