Health institutions try to develop strategies to meet the healthcare needs of the community effec... more Health institutions try to develop strategies to meet the healthcare needs of the community effectively and efficiently, but they also endeavor to preserve their place in the market. However, an accurate analysis and understanding of environmental factors and establishing feedback channels are essential to be able to develop these strategies. In addition, by identifying environmental factors, health institutions can determine their weaknesses and strengths to eliminate the factors that may pose a threat and develop new opportunities. The purpose of this study is to examine and classification of the external environmental factors affecting health institutions. We base our discussion of the external environmental factors on Lynch's classification of these factors, namely, political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, and legal environmental factors. Furthermore, we discuss the concept of environmental uncertainty, which is very important for health institutions, from Duncan's point of view.

However, efficient implementation of strategies is also crucial because sometimes we witness health institutions failing due to improper implementation of suitable and effective strategies. In the twenty-first century, health institutions must use competition and market tools with zero-error strategies. On the other hand, health institutions must have a good knowledge of the structure and characteristics of the service market to develop competition and market entry strategies. This study provides a comprehensive survey of the literature on the concepts of market attractiveness, market concentration, and market growth and attempts to examine how health institutions develop their competition and market entry strategies.

This sector includes diagnostic devices, treatment devices and medical supplies. In Turkey, the global medical device and medical supply industry are growing rapidly, and the value expected to reach $5.2 billion by 2012. In Turkey demand for medical devices is increasing constantly by escalating via expenditures and greater attention to health care by Ministry of Health, construction of new hospitals, clinics, establishments, and coverage expansion public health insurance. International companies have a great market share in Turkey with medical device and supply field. This article analyzed that the sectoral development of medical device industry in both domestic and international markets in Turkey.

For this research, Data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach is used to evaluate the relative technical and scale efficiencies of general teaching hospitals. Clinical service quality development strategies must be developed to decrease hospital mortality. Hospitals must put a lot of numbers of the beds and nurses to serve more suitable scale sizes.

It is a fundamental necessity for health institutions to conduct an environmental analysis in ord... more It is a fundamental necessity for health institutions to conduct an environmental analysis in order to protect themselves from threats arising from their competitors and to take advantage of prospective opportunities. Choosing and implementing an environmental analysis technique appropriate to their organizational structure can enable health institutions to fittingly and sustainability position them for the future. Such an analysis technique can also create certain advantages for these health institutions for utilizing opportunities to full extent. In this study, environmental analysis techniques are explained and discussed with examples from the health sector. Through observed examples from the health sector, we show that some health institutions choose to use a single environmental analysis technique, while others employ several analysis techniques together. It is believed that the explanations and discussions based on factual examples will help health institutions and health managers determine appropriate set of environmental analysis techniques, in in return can be used in developing evidence based and implementable strategies.

Purpose Turkish Ministry of Health (MoH) has Health Transformation Program (HTP). The purpose of ... more Purpose Turkish Ministry of Health (MoH) has Health Transformation Program (HTP). The purpose of this program has been to modify the structure of the current system in order to enhance health system productivity, quality, and access in the Turkish health system. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach To measure the productivity, a data envelopment analysis-based Malmquist index approach was employed. Findings Results showed that the overall HTP have had a considerable positive impact on the productivity of general hospitals. Research limitations/implications The limitation is the availability of some data that might not be collected or reported to the MoH in Turkey. Practical implications This research’s findings will have an impact on reforming the health care system in Turkey to be competitive and efficient as possible. Social implications The research will have implication on reducing cost and provide value to the Turkish population. Originality/value This is one of the very few articles that targeted the efficiency of hospital system in Turkey.

Öz Küreselleşen dünyada, gerek işletme faaliyetlerinin önemli bir kısmını oluşturan lojistik fonk... more Öz Küreselleşen dünyada, gerek işletme faaliyetlerinin önemli bir kısmını oluşturan lojistik fonksiyonunun, gerekse ülke ekonomilerinin önemli bir bileşeni olan lojistik sektörünün önemi giderek artmaktadır. İşletmelerin ve ülkelerin stratejik anlamda rekabet üstünlüğü elde etmelerinde oldukça önemli olan lojistik faaliyetlerin başarısı, çalışanların işlerine karşı olan olumlu tutumlarının artırılması ile sürdürülebilir hale getirilebilir. Olumlu tutumların artırılması noktasında en sık incelenen kavramlardan bir tanesi iş tatminidir. İş tatmini, bir çalışanın iş ve işin sağladıklarına ilişkin bir algısı ve bu algıya karşılık olarak verdiği duygusal cevap olarak tanımlanmaktadır. İşinden tatmin olan bir çalışanın, mikro düzeyde çalıştığı işletmeye, makro düzeyde ise işletmesinin yer aldığı sektöre ve ülke ekonomisine olumlu katkı sağlaması söz konusudur. Bu çalışma, lojistik sektörü yöneticilerinin iş tatmini düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amacını taşımaktadır. Bu amaçla, DEMATEL yöntemi kullanılarak iş tatminini ortaya çıkaran kriterlerin önem dereceleri ve kriterler arasındaki nedensel ilişkiler incelenmiş ve sonuçlar detaylı şekilde ortaya konulmuştur. Çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda, lojistik sektöründe yöneticilerin iş tatminlerinin artırılmasına yönelik önerilerde de bulunulmuştur.
