This is a retrospective observational hospital-based study aimed to determine the prevalence and ... more This is a retrospective observational hospital-based study aimed to determine the prevalence and outcome of severe acute malnutrition in children less than five years admitted to Omdurman Paediatric Hospital during the period January 2014 to December 2014. Data was collected from patient's hospital records during the study period. Ethical approval and permission to access patients' record were obtained. A total of 593 children with severe malnutrition were identified; 305 of cases were male (51.4%) with a male: female ratio of 1:0.9. The mean age these children was 22.3 months. Children 36-59 months were least affected. 35.4% were classified as low socioeconomic class, 22.9% classified as an average class and there were no sufficient data to classify the remaining. The overall prevalence of severe malnutrition was 6.5%, and the general mortality rate was 2.4% while mortality rate among children with severe malnutrition was 9.3%. This is considered by the fact that the prevalence of underweight children in Sudan is among the highest in the world and it is essential to determine its prevalence and causes, as this problem affects the future of the under-five children and the community as general. This review aimed to assess the prevalence and causes of undernutrition among under-five children in Sudan. Methods: Published data such as peer-reviewed articles, published dissertations and official reports on malnutrition and its causes among under-five Sudanese children during the last twenty years, were collected from Science Direct, Google Scholar, PubMed, and others. The information restored was reviewed and analyzed for inconsistency. This research was carried out to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practice of community pharma... more This research was carried out to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practice of community pharmacists in Khartoum state towards weight managements, and to explore their roles in dispensing of off label drugs as weight management drugs. A questionnaire was used to collect primary data from 100 community pharmacists in Khartoum state who were chosen randomly. The secondary data was collected from different references, journals, textbooks and internet website. The results of this study showed that 91% of community pharmacists were highly involved in providing advice in weight management. The dispensing of weight management medications depended mainly on weight of the patients (25%). This research revealed that 49% of pharmacists dispensed the metformin for off label use as anti-obesity drug, 58% of them dispense it under prescription while 51% of the pharmacists never dispensed it for weight loss.
