With careful and detailed analysis of cytological features, guided fine needle aspiration cytology can prove to be a reliable diagnostic modality that can help in differential diagnosis of cystic parotid malignancies from cystic benign tumors and non-neoplastic lesions. Papillary cystic variant of acinic cell carcinoma is a rare, cystic, primary neoplasm of salivary gland that occurs commonly in parotid. The tumor shows high local recurrence rate and has poorer prognosis compared to classic acinic cell carcinoma. Preoperative cytological diagnosis of papillary cystic variant of acinic cell carcinoma of parotid, in the case described here was the basis for adequate and timely surgical management with good results.

In India, the most prevalent hemoglobinopathies are thalassemia and sickle cell anemia. To reduce the burden of highly prevalent monogenic disorders, it is essential that disease progression be halted at the carrier stage. This can be done by carrier detection and genetic counseling in young individuals. In Central India, where prevalence of thalassemia and sickle cell anemia is high, premarital screening is being implemented for the first time in medical students for identification of asymptomatic carriers of these hemoglobinopathies and possible prevention of future high-risk marriages by genetic counseling. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to (1) determine the prevalence of asymptomatic carriers of sickle cell disease and thalassemia in first-year MBBS students; and (2) know the frequency of hemoglobinopathy ca...

Therefore it becomes essential to differentiate sarcomatoid mesothelioma from other variants. Morphologically it mimics malignant spindle cell tumor. Immunohistochemistry therefore becomes mandatory to offer definitive diagnosis. However IHC markers also show overlapping expression, making its interpretation difficult. In such challenging situations, clinicoradiological features, morphology together with panel of IHC markers help to solve the riddle/dilemma. Here we report a case of sarcomatoid mesothelioma with its varied IHC profile posing diagnostic challenge. © 2020 Published by Innovative Publication. About 10% of these patients have primary or secondary malignancy. Aim: The histopathological patterns of endometrium, in postmenopausal women presenting with bleeding were studied along with the frequency of endometrial cancer. Materials and Methods: It was both a prospective and retrospective, observational study carried out over a period of one and half year in tertiary care teaching hospital on 112 postmenopausal women, above 40 year of age with history of one year of amenorrhoea without hormone replacement therapy. The samples were obtained by dilatation and curettage and endometrial pipelle procedure. Results and Discussion: Maximum patients belonged to age group of 46-50 year. The most common histopathological pattern observed was atrophic endometrium in 42 (37.5%) patients followed by simple hyperplasia in 13(11.6%) and endometrial polyp in 7(6.25%) cases. Irregula...

The commonest site of cysticercosis is central nervous system followed by muscles, subcutaneous tissue and eyes. But only a handful of cases of eyelid cysticercosis have been reported in the literature. We report a case of isolated eyelid cysticercosis in a three year old female child who presented with swelling on the right upper eyelid which was clinically diagnosed as dermoid cyst because of its exclusive site of presentation. Histopathology of excised eyelid swelling revealed the diagnosis of cysticercosis.

Although less than 5% of thyroid cancers, it is responsible for more than half of deaths attributed to thyroid cancer, with a mortality rate over 90% and a mean survival of six months. The diagnosis of ATC is usually based on clinical examination, cytology, histology, imaging study and immunohistochemistry. FNAC is reported to be 90% accurate in diagnosing ATC. A preoperative cytological diagnosis helps to determine the treatment plan in these patients. ATC needs to be differentiated from high grade tumors with the microscopic features originating from adjacent structures and at times immunohistochemistry is essential for establishing the correct diagnosis. The problems in sarcomatoid variant of ATC are compounded when cellularity is low and epithelial cells are sparse. In such cases diagnosis of malignancy and differentiation from other soft tissue tumors presents major dilemma.

Filaria has a wide spectrum of presentation. Filarial lung involvement is usually in the form of tropical pulmonary eosinophilia with pulmonary infiltrates and peripheral eosinophilia. Filariasis presenting with pleural effusion is an unusual presentation. Malignancy in association with filarial pleural effusion is extremely rare and its role in tumorigenesis is controversial. In this context, we hereby report a case of 60 year old male, chronic smoker, who presented with left sided chest pain, cough, breathlessness, generalized weakness and swelling over left infrascapular region. Pleural fluid cytology repeated thrice due to degenerative changes, finally revealed malignant cells along with microfilaria. FNAC from left infrascapular swelling showed cytological features suggestive of metastatic deposits of Adenocarcinoma.
