The study aims to assess the impact of food waste on the food chain at the national level. The data were obtained from quantitative impact studies, carried out in a project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Sustainable Development, “Methods to reduce food waste on the agri-food chain, at national level, to prevent and reduce socio-economic impact, until 2030”. A total of 852 companies were interviewed, with a turnover of almost 6.5 billion euro and a number of over 69 thousand employees, including 273 primary production enterprises, 270 food processing units, 171 distribution/retail units, and 138 HoReCa units.

In the case of bottled water, the exposure to toxic elements is achieved, especially by ingestion, leading to disorders of important functions of the human body. The aim of this study was the detection of some potentially toxic elements, from 50 samples of bottled drinking water, available on the Romanian market. Based on obtained concentrations, an assessment of the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risk was performed. The concentrations of potentially toxic elements analyzed were below the maximum allowable limits, for all contaminants, excluding Pb and Fe. Moreover, the results of total risk via ingestion, showed that 30% of samples had an Hazard Quotient (HQ) < 1, and 70% had an HQ > 1; which implies a potential risk following the consumption of those samples. Concerning total canc...

Straw, husks, brans, flours, bread waste, confectionary waste, so on, can be re-used using different processes such as: extraction, fermentation, microorganism cultivation, for obtaining added value products. These new products obtained can be: biofuels, enzymes, biodegradable material food contact, single cell protein, bio-adsorbent, nanoparticles, bio alcohol, bioactive compounds like fibres, phytochemicals, minerals, so on. This paper is a short review regarding sharing knowledge and good practices in implementing circular economy within food systems, specifically, cereal supply chain.

This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of anelloviral DNA in the Romanian human population and to investigate the association of infections with common pathologies in Romanian population. After informed consent, blood samples were collected from 2000 subjects represented by: clinically healthy individuals (n = 701) and a group of patients with pathologies linked to low grade inflammation or alteration of carbohydrate metabolism (n = 1299). All samples were analysed for the presence of TTV, TTMDV and TTMV DNA by hemi-nested PCR. The prevalence of TTV, TTMDV and TTMV in the studied population was 68.2, 54.4%, respectively 40.1%, lower than the recent reports from other geographic regions. The three viral species were significantly more frequent in the group of patients compared to the healthy subjects and were associated with type 2 diabet...

The aim of the study herein was to evaluate the chemical composition of the alfalfa concentrate, a byproduct obtained at the end of the production process for the dietary supplement "Alfalfa Complex". Alfalfa concentrate was found to be a rich source of dietary minerals (K, Ca, Mg, Fe) and dietary fibers. The amino acid composition recorded was: Threonine (0,66%); Lysine (0,71%); Leucine (1,26%); Isoleucine (0,67%); Valine (0,89%); Methionine...

Relations between residents’ age, education, marital status or gender are drivers for employment situation. Material and method: Study addresses a random group of 333 persons. Research was performed through direct interviews held by pre trained field operators. The questions focused on people’s attitude towards their present (un)employment status, actions they are ready to take in order to improve their situation, strengths they are counting on, weaknesses to cope with, opportunities and threats they identify in their environment. Results and discussions: The study argue on lack of expectation among the majority of the group about chances to improve their job situation. Age and education are influencing both expectations and ready to action attitude. Gender variance indicate a potential discriminating environment. Willingness to find a job and certain changes they are ready to accept for this are dist...

The rural quality of life is significantly related to working environment. In Romania the desindustralization of urban area pushed back in rural area many people. Their skills are not allways apropriate to the new working environment, so they have difficulties in finding and/or assuming a job. The main dificulty in understanding the present situation is the lack of data. The type of questions to be answered generates reluctance to people interviewed. The relations between residents’ age, gender, education or marital status and life quality are essential in understanding the drivers of rural economy and its working environment, both formal or informal, as well as developing rural development strategies and local policies. The study aim to address the relations between individual caracteristics and their status on the local working environment for 357...

The number of the publications (articles and proceedings papers) as well as sectorial revues available on relevant databases as Science Direct (SD), Springer Link (SL), Taylor & Francis (TF) or Wiley (WL) reflects such interest. However the evolution of the entire field on its bibliometric parameters is needed. The present study is focusing on over 245 FP articles published between 2010 and 2017, with a relevant extension of other 58 articles published earlier, available on SD, SL and WL databases. Impact relevance, citations, publications and countries are emphasized, as well as main topics are summarized.

This may be due to the perception that these dietary supplements cannot negatively affect the health of consumers in any way. However, dietary supplements may not have the expected effect. In addition, it has been shown that supplements can sometimes be chemically, physically or microbiologically contaminated, if the hygiene conditions and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) plan are not fully complied with. The aim of this study was to determine the lead and cadmium content of 41 food supplements available on the Romanian market and to assess the risk to consumer health. The graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) technique was used for sample analysis after wet mineralization of the samples. The risk assessment was determined based on Estimated Daily Intake (EDI), Target Hazard Quotient (THQ), and Carcinogenic Risk (CR) calculations. Values obtained for both lead and ca...

In this work, partially defatted milk thistle seed flour, a by-product obtained during the manufacture of milk thistle seed oil, was studied as an additive for common wheat flour. The influence of the addition of partially defatted milk thistle seed flour was studied by analyzing the colour, mineral content and rheological properties of dough in order to further exploit the functionality of partially defatted milk thistle seed in bakery products. Mixtures containing 5%, 10% and 15% partially defatted milk thistle added to wheat flour maintained rheological parameters within recommended limits for a good technological behaviour and, consequently, a good quality of bakery products. Mineral contents, especially calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium, were also significantly increased.

The purpose of this research was to gain in-depth analysis of the factors that influence the consumer choices and behavior towards berry based food products in three different countries, from eastern and western Europe: Romania, France and Turkey. These three countries as a three distinctive markets for organic products were chosen to find out similar and different attitudes and behavior towards organic food consumption. This cross-cultural consumer study aims to contribute to socioeconomic research market actors and policy makers. French consumers appear to be the most loyal consumers of berries-based products out of the three countries investigated, preferring mostly fresh berries, jams, and dairy products based on berries. In Turkey and Romania, the berries consumption is mostly occasional. Turkish consumer prefer mainly dr...

Resources used to generate food raw materials, food processing and distribution have a significant impact on the environment. Our contemporary development pattern, based on consumption stimulation, generates social and geographic disparities, with highly over stimulated consumption in economically developed areas and reduced food availability or even famine in poor communities. As such, we are faced with the both the problems of food waste and food scarcity at the same time. The present article is assessing the Romanian consumer’s food waste impact in 2020, based on data from a nation-wide urban areas statistically representative group.

This review article presents an overview of various aspects linked to the phenomenon of food losses in primary cereal production and its consequences. From the analysis of reviewed specific literature, it resulted that the losses are found both in the harvesting process and in the post-harvest processes (conditioning, separation, sorting, chemical treatment, transport etc.) these representing the primary processing of agricultural products, especially seeds. The review focuses on the new technologies’ influence in reducing FW in harvesting and post-harvesting process, highlighting the contribution of agricultural engineering studies on this specific topic
