Materials and Methods: In the present retrospective study, the third molar position classifications, third molar positions of patients with cephalometric and panoramic radiographs, and their relationship with vertical skeletal growth and pterygomaxillary fissure were thoroughly investigated in the light of the preoperative clinical and radiologic records from 200 patients with an indication of third molar extraction, who were admitted to İstanbul Aydın University Faculty of Dentistry Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic and Department of Orthodontics due to various reasons. Results: The obtained data were evaluated using SPSS (22.0) package program. Regarding the data analysis, Mann–Whitney U-test statistics was used for the analysis of two-variable data. Bulgular: Gömülü maksiller üçüncü molar dişi bulunan 170 bireyin 91' i bayan, 79'u erkektir. Unilateral ve bilateral gömülülük açısından aralarında istatistik fark yoktur (p > 0,05). Totalde gömülü 170 molar vakanın 79'u Sınıf I, 71' i Sınıf II, 20'si Sınıf III' dür.

Methods: The sample was comprised of 63 individuals (20 control, 25 Class I malocclusion, 18 Class II Div. 1 malocclusion). Occlusion analysis was performed through T-Scan® record and chewing pattern examination before and after the 6-month period. The existence of TMD was evaluated using joint vibration analysis (JVA). Patients with malocclusion had active fixed orthodontic treatment. Results: Disclusion time reduced in the patients group during the treatment period. No association was observed between the first 6-month period of the orthodontic treatment and TMD. Discussion: It is suggested that occlusion analyses should be done before any orthodontic treatment, and disclusion time should be minimized as much as possible.

The aim of this study was to compare different orthodontic adhesives with the efficacy of Er: YAG laser for enamel conditioning. The effects of these adhesives’ types (single component orthodontic adhesives and glass carbomer cement) with lasers have not been studied previously. A total of 80 specimens were etched by irradiation of Er: YAG laser with 1.2-W power at 10 Hz and divided randomly into four groups (n = 20): group 1, bonding with Transbond XT primer with Transbond XT composite; group 2, Biofix; group 3, GC ortho connect; group 4; glass carbomer cement. Metal brackets were then bonded with adhesives. Shear bond strength tests were conducted on them in a universal testing machine after 24 h of water storage. Material and Method: Cephalometric and panoramic radiographs were applied to Istanbul Aydin University Faculty of Dentistry Departments of Oral, Dental Maxillofacial Radiology and Orthodontics. In the retrospective study, the positions of maxillary third molars and their relationship with effective maxillary base length were examined in detail on cephalometric images. Results: The obtained data were evaluated using SPSS (22.0) package program. Regarding the data analysis, Mann-Whitney U Test Statistics was used for the analysis of two-variable data. The maxillary base relation of the maxillary third molars, which had been examined on cephalometric and panoramic images, were identified as 48.3% for skeletal class I, 41.1% for skeletal class II, 10.6% for skeletal class III, 70.2% for unilateral, and 29.8% for b...

A 9-year-old male patient was admitted to our clinic with gaping of anterior teeth. Clinical and radiographic evaluation revealed skeletal class II and dental class II anomaly and increased openbite due to mandibular retrognathia. The treatment was started with rapid maxillary expansion. After the retention period of 6 months, the treatment was continued with activator appliance to correct mandibular retrognathia. Mandibular advancement and class I molar and canine relationship were achieved after 10 months of activator use. In conclusion, in the case of dental class II, increased overjet, rapid maxillary expansion and functional treatment with activator appliance resulted in a good occlusion with normal overbite and overjet with dental class I relationships.

SETTINGS AND SAMPLE POPULATION In this study 24 Sprague-Dawley male rats were used. METHODS The experimental animals were divided into 3 groups as follows: Group 1: only maxillary expansion, Group 2: maxillary expansion with continuous teriparatide administration (2μg in the morning and 2μg in the evening) and Group 3: maxillary expansiyon with intermittent teriparatide administration (daily 4μg/kg). The expansion appliance was fixed to maxillary incisors of all animals within the 5-day expansion period, followed by a 12-day retention phase. Animals were sacrificed at the end of the retention period and specimens were evaluated by micro-Ct and histomorphometric analysis respectively. RESULTS The results of histomorp...

In this review, the prevalence of dental trauma, prevention and diagnosis of traumatic injuries, ... more In this review, the prevalence of dental trauma, prevention and diagnosis of traumatic injuries, the effects of dental trauma in patients in need of orthodontic treatment, orthodontic intervention to dental traumatized teeth, and treatment options for poor anterior teeth due to trauma are discussed. Dental trauma is a condition that is frequently encountered in dentistry. When orthodontic treatment of traumatized teeth is planned, the orthodontist should be considered before orthodontic treatment and during orthodontic treatment. Prognosis is divided into two types as treatment options of bad anterior teeth, retaining the tooth in the mouth or pulling the tooth and restoration of the opening. The multidisciplinary teamwork and the role of the orthodontist in this team are important in order to achieve optimal results in the clinical intervention of these cases. Autotransplantation, orthodontic closure, or opening of the space are discussed when tooth extraction and toothless space restoration are required. It is very important to decide if orthodontic forces should be applied or not, and if orthodontic force is necessary, when should it be applied. Information on orthodontic forces applied to traumatized teeth was given in this chapter.
