The approach to cope with this educational objective makes use of computer based modeling and simulation. This provides a learning environment which can foster students to think and handle in and about complex business subject matters. The theoretical anchor is the construct of ’Mental Models’. Its roots can be seen in cognitive sciences (JOHNSON-LAIRD 1983). The system dynamics-notation seems to be intuitive for students. There are some hints in the perceptional psychology which support this idea. The hypotheses are: a) Students can get access to business knowledge in a deeper mode by means of the sd-based approach. b) Students acquire different qualities of knowledge (declarative, structural knowledge or knowledge about policy concepts). This is influenced by different instructional approaches, wher...

Generally, school development incorporates organizational, managerial, and educational activities and measures. This is done to adapt to the new situation to achieve the desired changes and goals initiated by a given curriculum reform. In contrast, this paper focuses on school staff–driven development: It describes how teachers together with paraprofessionals contribute to school-development. Using collective responsibility creating working methods of communication, the enactment of staff’s self-chosen measures will be possible. This school staff–driven school development approach makes use of the Dialogue Café and the reflection cycle. The combined use of these working methods is seen as appropriate support for school staff–centered development of the School-In p...

The research question is: Broadly, what kinds of pedagogy, instructional design models, or didactical models are established and proposed for e-learning design on the two continents? Two researchers examined multiple articles and texts in an effort to discern the prominent approaches in their respective regions. The analysis is tripartite: First, the educational philosophies, which have guided e-learning design on each continent, will be presented; second, specific theories about learning influencing e-learning design will be discussed; and finally, elearning design, which arises from innovative instructional strategies, will be investigated. The resulting analysis brings to the surface not only how the values that underpin e-learning development in each region differ but also how specific perspectives influence the respective fields. The researchers acknowledge these differences but also remark on the historic and contemporary symbiosis that has endured even in this relatively new field of e-learning.

Research has shown that support has to include the social dimension as well. The paper starts with a conceptual discussion and explores qualitative results by a content analysis based on a previously conducted quantitative analysis on CSCL. As a research platform, 4 CSCL courses at the master's level were conceptualized for applying different e-collaborative learning approaches.

An Information Security Reporting System is badly needed, but good information security data is very difficult to gather and many barriers prevent making existing data available for scientific purposes. In the scarcity of real-cases, we argue that 'Dynamic Stories', i.e. the various narratives that can be derived from system dynamics models of the existing system dynamics studies of information security might help establish a Virtual Information Security Reporting System. We do have an interesting opportunity in our running study of information security risks in the transition to eOperations in the offshore oil & gas sector. Given the importance of security for eOperations and the huge stakes involved, it seems that an umbrella organization such as the Norwegian Oil Industry Association is a potential adopter of a Virtual Information Security Reporting System. Our paper formulates issues that need to be solved in order make our vision of such reporting system a tangible prospect.

The theoretical baseline is Vygotsky's zone of proximal development (ZOPD) and the socio-genetic approach of Piaget. The analyzed data are based on questionnaires collected over the time period of an entire semester including four different courses at the master's level. These courses applied different e-collaborative approaches including a variety of tools for supporting communication. It is assumed that these courses including communication tools e.g. virtual face-to-face meetings enhance the chances for better communication, and finally, for mutual support of students themselves. The objective is to investigate how the different environments have affected the students' perception related to different e-collaborative learning platforms in the dimensions of social support, information exchange, and task support.

A set of performance indicators, which assists monitoring in a proper way ,i s described regarding: the incident response management system; information security culture; number of incidents responded to; average time spent on responding; consequences of incidents; number of incidents of high loss; downtime of SCADA systems; total costs of incident response; and learning. The entire set of proposed indicators is well suited for monitoring the total incident response management of an organisation as it covers all parts of incident response management.
