Approximately 2 to 3% of cases are bilateral; bilateral presentations appear to have a familial component. Only 5 cases of bilateral branchial cleft fistulas have been reported in the English-language literature, and only 1 case of simultaneous first and second branchial cleft fistulas has been previously reported. We report what to the best of our knowledge is the second case of bilateral first and second branchial cleft fistulas.

We reviewed the records of 10 patients—7 men and 3 women, aged 35 to 70 years (mean: 51.4)— who had been treated at our referral center over a 9-year period. The tumors were located in the nasal cavity in 7 patients and in a paranasal sinus in the other 3. Medial maxillectomy was performed in 4 patients, wide local excision in 3, and endoscopic excision in 2; the remaining patient, who had presented with a liver metastasis, received chemotherapy and palliative local radiotherapy. Two patients who presented with a neck node metastasis also underwent concurrent radical neck dissection. Follow-up ranged from 8 to 70 months (median: 25). Only 4 patients remained alive through the duration of follow-up. The 2- and 5-year survival rates were 60 and 40%, respectively. Based on the findings of our small study, we conclude that primary sin...

The disease is characterized by a triad of painless subcutaneous masses in the head or neck region, blood and tissue eosinophilia, and markedly elevated serum immunoglobulin E levels. Kimura's disease is an unusual vascular tumor that typically occurs at 20 to 30 years of age. There has been no documented case of malignant transformation; however, recurrence rates after excision may be as high as 25%. Surgery and medical therapy are useful for treatment. We present a 14 years old male developed a unilateral cervical mass associated with KD. It was a recurrence of disease. As a complete excisional resection of the mass already done 1 year back at some other centre, we decided to give medical treatment for Kimura's disease.

A 10-year-old male child presented with history of hoarseness of voice for 6-month duration and indirect laryngoscopy showed an ulcerative, warty growth involving the right vocal cord. The patient underwent microlaryngeal surgery under general anaesthesia and growth was excised completely. The histopathology showed spindle cells arranged in fasciculate pattern with myxoid background and focal hyalinization. The immunostaining showed positivity of spindle cells to vimentin and muscle specific actin confirming the diagnosis of IMT. The voice of child improved after 2 months and had regular follow up for 2 years with no recurrence.

This study involves the retrospective review of 32 patients (20 males and 12 females) with 34 biopsy proven odontogenic keratocysts. All patients received a combination of enucleation and chemical cauterization with every time freshly prepared Carnoy's solution (absolute alcohol 6 mL, chloroform 3 mL, glacial acetic acid 1 mL, ferric chloride 0.1 gm/mL). None of these patients were diagnosed with basal cell nevus syndrome. Four of these patients did not give the follow up and were not included in the study. A total of 30 biopsy proven OKC were resolved with this treatment method. Post-operative follow up consists of clinical and radiographic examination. Follow up time ranged from a minimum of 2 years to a maximum of 5 years. Mean follow up was of 2.8 years. Recurrence rate of 5.8% was observed. Hence, concluded that the combin...

Research paper thumbnail of A comparative review of treatment of 80 mandibular angle fracture fixation with miniplates using three different techniques

(1976) consists of fixation with one miniplate at superior border of mandible ventral to external oblique line. In certain constellations, second miniplate at lower border may provide additional stability. In this retrospective study 80 patients with mandibular angle fracture were divided into 3 sub-groups reported at DIRDS Faridkot were treated by intraoral, extraoral and combined intraoral and transbuccal approach. There was no significant difference in complication rates encountered with these techniques. Decision regarding treatment approaches for open reduction of mandible fracture often relates to surgeon's experience and training. In some cases, choice is affected by availability of equipment. More difficult cases involving endentulous atrophic mandible or comminution should be considered for extraoral approach. Intraoral open reduction and fixation was used for n...
