It has brought a fundamental change into the existing structure of school education. The present paper throws light on the new curricular and pedagogical structure recommended by NEP-2020. The paper tries to delineate the relevance of this structural change especially the inclusion of pre-primary stage in formal schooling in the contemporary global educational context. The language policy in NEP-2020 has already been criticised by educationists and bureaucrats. The role of language in case of national integration is logically analysed. The functional utility of any policy depends on its successful implementation in the real ground. The challenges this policy may face during its implementation are also highlighted in this paper. It is found that well paid teachers with a higher degree of commitment, ethics and accountability for early child education is a big challenge for NEP-2020.

Neohumanism was propounded by the great Indian philosopher Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar (1921-1990). As a key approach to internationalisation, Sarkar emphasised manifestation of human qualities that lie in the subtle layers of mind. Humanism newly explained and newly-sermonized is Neohumanism – the philosophy which will make people understand that they are not merely ordinary creatures. This philosophy will liberate them from all inferiority feelings and defects and make them aware of their own importance it will inspire them to build a new world. All beings – animate and inanimate - come within the scope of Neohumanism which will eliminate all sentiments like geo-sentiment, socio-sentiment and will usher in universalism. Implementation of principles of Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT) in economic sphere will provide guaranteed provision of basic amenities of life like food, clothing,...

India has launched a New Education Policy in 2020 (NEP-2020) with the aim to ensure equitable and quality education to all regardless of social and economic barriers. The policy has specially emphasised on early childhood education. It has recommended the changes in curricular and pedagogical structure to develop critical thinking and to make the learners creative and multidisciplinary. The present study tries to explore teachers' readiness with regard to the goal, curriculum and teaching strategy at foundation level. The study also assesses teachers' self-assessment skills on their functioning. A survey is conducted with 187 primary teachers selected purposefully from the state of West Bengal, India. Self-developed questionnaire is applied to collect data. Result shows that teachers are theoretically aware about the goals and methods of teaching as per the NEP 2020. Their application skills are not satisfactory. Their knowledge about ICT oriented pedagogy are limited. They possess high self-esteem about their way of teaching and are not ready to change their performance. Teachers' skills related to handling fast and slow learners are not adequate. The study has significant implications in identifying the various components of training for capacity building of teachers at foundation level. The study is exclusively based on the survey using questionnaires where the respondents have answered online. Direct observations are not conducted in real ground due to the present pandemic situation. The same study can be conducted with both questionnaires and observations in future for more reliable results.
