This study investigated intellectual capital efficiency as a source of creating shareholders’ wealth in Nigeria. To achieve the study's aim, correlational research design was adopted. The study’s data were collected from content analysis of financial statements of listed service companies in Nigeria. The sample used in this study includes 17 service firms listed on the Nigeria Exchange Group from 2011 to 2022. The VAIC model was utilized to estimate intellectual capital. Descriptive statistics were conducted while some diagnostic tests were piloted before the regression analysis. The Board of Directors (BoD) is the body of strategic decision-making, representation and highest... more The Board of Directors (BoD) is the body of strategic decision-making, representation and highest executive body of a firm. A firm`s board can influence the formation of business and investment strategies and policies and ultimately performance. The objective of the study was to examine the effect of banks' board globalizing on financial performance of quoted banks in Nigeria. The study made use of secondary data which were obtained from the annual reports of ten banks for the years 2011-2015. The study adopted the ordinary least square (OLS) regression as the basic techniques of analysis and employed both normality and the multi-collinearity tests to examine the features of the data for analysis. Findings of the study reveal that foreign board membership, asset growth and institutional ownership have a significant positive relationship with financial performance of banks. The study also finds no significant relationship between board gender diversity and financial performance as well as a negative relationship between bank riskiness and financial performance of banks in Nigeria. The study recommends amongst others the consolidation of the code of corporate governance and concludes that board globalizing and diversity improves financial performance of banks in Nigeria.

Lack of financial autonomy and undue interference by state governments have been identified as so... more Lack of financial autonomy and undue interference by state governments have been identified as some of the impediments to effective administration of local governments in Nigeria. To this end, this study was carried out to examine the effect of financial autonomy on rural development using Isoko North Local Government Area as a case study. The study adopted a survey research design; hence, data were collected through the use of questionnaires administered to the management and staff of selected departments in Isoko North Local Government Council. The findings of the study indicate that financial autonomy will contribute positively to rural development and service delivery in the area of study, and recommends that local governments should be made financially autonomous to promote rural development and enhance better service delivery.

The ordinary least square (OLS) regression method was used as the basic technique of data analysis. Findings of the study indicate a significant positive relationship between corporate performance and environmental sustainability disclosures in the manufacturing sector of Nigeria. Financial statements have been used as a medium for communicating corporate performance to the va... more Financial statements have been used as a medium for communicating corporate performance to the various stakeholders of business organizations. As such, they are expected to have some qualitative characteristics to be able to facilitate this communicative role and provide useful information for investment decision making. To this end, this study was carried out to examine the accounting information relevance on market performance of companies in Nigeria. The study adopted the panel data design and data were obtained from annual reports of companies for the year 2017. The population of the study consisted of all listed industrial and consumer goods companies in Nigeria. A sample size of 37 companies in the industrial and consumer goods sector was randomly selected and utilized for the study. The multivariate regression analysis was adopted as data analytical method. The study using the results of the multivariate regression shows that earning per share; dividends per share and book value per share all have a significant positive relationship with share prices. The study also finds that cash flow from operating activities has a positive but weak correlation with share prices while leverage has a negative and non-significant relationship with share prices. The study concludes that accounting information disclosure in Nigeria has not lost its relevance as investors still use them in making economic and business decisions.

We adopted the survey research design. An instrument containing 20 items was designed using the 5-point Likert scales ranging from strongly agree (5) to strongly disagree (1). A total of 60 samples were drawn from the target population using the simple random sampling technique. Out of the 60 questionnaires administered, 44 were returned upon which the analysis was based. Data analysis was carried out with the aid of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). The Chi-square statistical technique was used to test the hypotheses at 5% alpha level. It was found that there are differences in going concern reporting among independent auditors.
