Four multiparous Holstein cows were used, with an average milk production of 25 liters per day. The cows were randomly assigned, via the Latin Square design (4x4), to one of four experimental diets. The experimental period was 21 days. The results obtained in the experiment were evaluated by analysis of variance, Fisher’s F test and Tukey’s test at 5 % probability. The experimental diets consisted of wet brewers grain silage alone, and this silage with the addition of wheat bran, soybean hulls or ground corn. The diets did not affect the initial body weight of the animals. Diets containing wheat bran and ground corn provided a higher intake of dry matte...

The nutritional requirements can be met, and carcass quality can be achieved by using concentrate... more The nutritional requirements can be met, and carcass quality can be achieved by using concentrate supplementation in the diets of grazing lambs. This study evaluated the effects of different concentrate supplementation rates (0 %, 1.5 %, and 3 % of body weight) and tropical pastures (Panicum maximum cv. 'Aruana' and Brachiaria brizantha cv. 'Marandu') on lamb carcass traits. Thirty-six male Suffolk lambs, with an initial body weight of 22.54 ± 2.72 kg, were evaluated in a 3 × 2 factorial experimental design. The concentrate used consisted of milled soybean, maize, and oat grains. The pasture species affected empty body weight and commercial cuts. The use of concentrate supplementation affected carcass weight, yield, indexes, and commercial cuts. Also, the use of concentrate supplementation improved the weight of muscle and fat content. Based on discriminant analysis it is possible to identify the rearing systems, when all variables where used, or the level of concentrate supplementation when variables of weight were used. Carcasses of animals on grass-only diets were different and easier to discriminate. The use of concentrate supplementation on rearing lambs improves the quality of carcass traits. The period of finishing can be shorted with supplementation of 3 % of body weigh in Aruana and Marandu grass. The discriminant analysis can identify the differences between rearing systems based on all carcass traits. This analysis can be used to develop carcass traceability systems.

Four ruminal cannulated Jersey oxen with initial body weight of 662.7 ± 85.5 kg were distributed in a 4x4 Latin square design. The treatments were levels of 0%, 33%, 66% and 100% DBG replacing soybean meal in the diet. Dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) intake were not influenced by the treatments. There were linear increases in ether extract (EE), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) intakes because of higher levels of these nutrients in diets with DBG. Non-fibre carbohydrate (NFC) and total digestible nutrient (TDN) intake showed a decreasing linear effect. Dry matter and NFC digestibility decreased linearly with rising DBG levels, while EE, CP, NDF and ADF digestibilities were not affected. Ruminal pH was not influenced by DBG levels in the diet. There was a quadratic effect in ammonia nitrogen (NH 3-N) concentration in the rumen, with the maximum occurring at a level of 36.7% DGB. The replacement of soybean meal with DBG in cattle diets did not alter DM intake and ruminal pH, but reduced TDN intake.

The objective of evaluating the intake and digestibility of nutrients, milk production, productio... more The objective of evaluating the intake and digestibility of nutrients, milk production, production efficiency and composition, and blood parameters of Holstein cows fed silage of the residue from the extraction of cassava starch (SRECS), replacing 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of the corn feed. Cows with average production of 35 kg of milk a day were assigned in a 5x5 Latin square design, and for the 21 days trial period, they were housed in stalls and fed individually to control the dietary food, stool samples were performed to estimate the digestibility of nutrients. Milking were held twice a day, measuring the production and analysis of milk composition in each experimental period. Blood collections were performed at the end of each period to evaluate the metabolic condition of the cows. The data were analyzed using variance analysis and polynomial regression. The replacement of corn by SRECS did not affect the intake of dry matter (DM) or total carbohydrates (TC). There was a linear decrease in the intake of ether extract (EE), and a linear increase in the intake of neutral (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), indicating a quadratic regression with the intake of crude protein (CP). The use SRECS presented growing effect digestibility of the ADF, showing a positive linear effect. The total digestible nutrients (TDN) did not differ between the diets and had an average of 66.03%. There was a trend of reduction (10%) in the production, with consequent increase in delight in the concentration of its components. There was no change in the measured metabolites. The use of silage of the residue from the extraction of cassava starch to replace the ground corn on feed, negatively affects the nutrient intake without changing the efficiency of milk production, milk composition, in the same way as blood parameters of lactating cows.

For such, 24 properties were selected, 12 of which only received assistance and technical support. Four milk samples were taken (summer, autumn, winter and spring) to assess the physicochemical composition, somatic cell count and total bacterial count and feed supplied to the animals to assess the chemical composition (crude protein, ash, dry matter and neutral detergent fiber). The data were analyzed in a completely randomized design with a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement; the first factor was the presence and absence of technical assistance and the second factor was the four seasons of the year. Due to the dairy tradition of properties in the region, technical assistance had no significant effects on the health and nutritional quality of ...
