This model was designed to fit a variety of different data sets, including free oscillation center frequency measurements, surface-wave dispersion observations, travel-time data for a number of body-wave phases, and basic astronomical data (Earth ́s radius, mass, and moment of inertia). Table 1 summarizes, as functions of depth and Earth ́s radius, the PREM velocities vp and vs for P and S waves, the density ρ, the shear and bulk quality factors, Qμ and Qκ, and the pressure P. Note, that density and attenuation (~ 1/Q) are known less precisely than the seismic velocities but these parameters are required for computing synthetic seismograms. In order to simultaneously fit Loveand Rayleigh-wave observations, PREM is transversely isotropic between 80 and 220 km depth in the upper mantle. Transverse isotropy is a spheri...

This study investigates the use of duration-based windows and estimation by analogy to calibrate COCOMO and assess their estimation performance. We compare these approaches as well as the use of all available historical data using the COCOMO data set of 341 projects and NASA data set of 93 projects. The results show that timing information exists in the data sets affecting estimation accuracy. Given sufficient data for calibration, using recently completed projects within short durations generates more accurate estimates than retaining all historical data or using k-nearest neighbors based on estimation by analogy. More training data spanning a long period of time may not lead to improved estimation accuracy. This study offers evidence to support the use of projects completed within recent years for training estimation models.

To overcome the problem of the dwarfing capacity resulting from the miniaturization of the battery, 3D-structured platform consisting of high surface area micropillar-shaped electrodes are used. However, applying a conformal and continuous solid polymer electrolyte films onto the intricate 3D electrodes is a crucial step toward achieving functional microbatteries. In this work, we present our approach for the development of polyethylene oxide (PEO)-acrylate based ion conducting polymer thin films which function as solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) and a separator. The SPEs were electrochemically deposited on the 3D electrodes resulting in ultrathin, continuous, conformal, and pinhole-free polymer films. The electrochemical and Li + ions transport properties of the SPEs were characterized by EIS measurements and cyclic voltammetry. Furthermore, the homogenous composition of the SPEs at various depths were confirmed by XPS depth profiling techniques.

Quantitative analysis active compounds in PLE were performed by thin layer chromatography with normal phase of silica gel F254 and HPLC-PDA with reversed phase of C18 column at UV 300 nm. The cutaneous tumors were initiated by a single application by 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) on the dorsal shaved skin, then promoted by repeated applications of croton oil during 20 weeks. PLE was topically applied daily until the end of the experiment. The results observed from thin layer chromatogram highlighted the presence of rosmarinic acid and luteolin in PLE. By means of HPLC-PDA analysis, the total content of rosmarinic acid and luteolin were found in amounts of 1.178 ± 0.011 % (w/w) and 0.105 ± 0.001 % (w/w), respectively. The PLE-treated group prolonged the latency period of tumor appearance up to 2 weeks and a...

Dynamic in-spiral timescales are of the order of few years and a few decades for the red and asymptotic giant branch stars, respectively. The planets will eventually be destroyed at a separation from the core of the giants smaller than the resolution of our simulations, either through evaporation or tidal disruption. As the planets in-spiral, the giant stars' envelopes are somewhat puffed up. Based on relatively long timescales and even considering the fact that further in-spiral should take place before the planets are destroyed, we predict that the merger would be difficult to observe, with only a relatively small, slow brightening. Very little mass is unbound in the process. These conclusions may change if the planet's orbit enhances the star's main pulsation modes. Based on the angular momentum transfer, we also suspect that this star-planet interaction may be unable to lead to large-scale outflows via the rotationmediated dynamo effect of Nordhaus and Blackman. Detectable pollution from the destroyed planets would only result for the lightest, lowest metallicity stars. We furthermore find that in both simulations the planets move through the outer stellar envelopes at Mach-3 to Mach-5, reaching Mach-1 towards the end of the simulations. The gravitational drag force decreases and the in-spiral slows down at the sonic transition, as predicted analytically.

The chronic nature of COPD has driven research in the area of self-management education. In Western countries there is evidence that self-management education for COPD patients facilitates an improved quality of life and lower hospital readmission rates. Aims: The aim of this study is to examine self-management education practice delivered by Vietnamese nurses to COPD patients. This study also aims to assess the level of COPD knowledge possessed by Vietnamese nurses and which factors influence their intent to deliver COPD self-management education. Additionally, this study will describe the characteristics of Vietnamese nurses who work in COPD specialty areas. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was distributed to nurses working in COPD specialist areas across four tertiary level specialty hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A 7 point Likert scale was used to assess the frequency of nurses' educational practices, nurses' intention to deliver self-management education and the factors influencing this intention, as suggested by the Theory of Planned Behaviour. Data were examined using descriptive and correlation statistics. Results: Of the 143 nurses working in specialist COPD practice, 124 completed the survey (86.7%). Using the Bristol Knowledge scale to measure COPD knowledge, Vietnamese nurses' knowledge specific to COPD was determined to be low. However, many nurses reported they were likely to deliver COPD selfmanagement education (M = 4.79. SD = 1.79). The following factors were found to positively be associated with nurses' intention to deliver education: age (p = 0.028); work experience (p = 0.044); attitude (p = 0.017); and Perceived Behavioural Control (p = 0.000).
