FASD is an umbrella term that encompasses a range of disorders such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), Partial Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (partial FAS), Alcohol Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder (ARND), and Alcohol Related Birth Defects (ARBD) (Chudley et al., 2005). More recently, the new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders (DSM-5), has provided the opportunity to diagnose prenatal exposure to alcohol via "Other Specified Neurodevelopmental Disorder (Associated with Prenatal Alcohol Exposure)" (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
