The study investigated nurses' preparedness for disaster in selected hospitals in Ondo state. Methodology: A descriptive design was adopted. Using a convenience sampling technique, a total of 248 respondents were selected from four hospitals in Ondo State, Nigeria. Data collection was done with the aid of an adapted structured questionnaire and an in-depth interview schedule. Results: Results revealed that only 12.5% of the nurses had good knowledge of disaster preparedness. The use of contingency plans, networking, use of worldwide web as well as multimedia were identified as available solutions by 12.5%, 11.7%, 10.5% and 9.3% of the nurses respectively. The study further identified the current roles played by nurses in achieving disaster preparedness as follows: facilitating communication and coordination of care (22.5%), acquisition of skills to give psychological support (17.7%), provision of quality health care (15.7%), giving first aid treatment (14.9%), and learning to triage victims (13.5%). The study also showed that there is a significant relationship between the nurses' level of knowledge on disaster preparedness and their years of experience (X 2 = 3.11, P = 0.0001) and their rank (X 2 = 2.46, P = 0.0001). Conclusion: It was concluded that disaster preparedness among nurses in selected hospitals in Ondo State was at low level and materials/equipments needed to rescue the victims were inadequate.

hospitals for treatment. It gives people capability to be aware of tissue
trauma. Despite enormous technological advances and substantial
research in the area of pain management in recent years, numerous
studies indicate that post-operative pain is not relieved in most patients.
The target population was nurses involved in the care of post-operative
patients. Ninety- three nurses that consented in surgical wards in the
study setting filled the questionnaire while seventeen out of them were
involved in in-depth interview and they were analyzed using
descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results showed that a very low percentage of the respondents (18.3%)
had adequate knowledge of pain and its assessment.
In conclusion, it was demonstrated that there was no significant
association between nurses‟ educational qualification and knowledge of
acute pain. Likewise, there was no significant association between
nurses‟ years of experience and knowledge of acute pain as well. It is
therefore of high importance that nurses update their knowledge
especially on assessment and diagnosis of acute pain this is one of the
major reasons while many individuals are hospitalized. It is also
necessary to be able to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

can be described as the surrounding conditions in which an employee
operates. This study explored the knowledge, assessed the perception of
health care givers about their work environment and assessed the
barriers to efficiency of health care service delivery in Federal Medical
Centre, Owo.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 284 health
workers comprising of 171 nurses, 107 doctors and 6 community health
and extension workers which was selected using multi stage sampling
technique. Data was analyzed using STATA (SE 12.0) whereby
frequency tables were run, mean and standard deviation was calculated.
Results showed that majority (97.5%) of the workers had good
knowledge of what constitutes a desirable work environment. All
(100%) the workers had positive perception of a good work
environment. And factors identified to be responsible for affecting
conducive work environment which in turn affects workers’
productivity include lack of equity and fairness, poor communication
system, occupational hazards and high workload leading to burn out,
lack of motivation from boss, non availability of drugs to treat patients,
lack of appropriate equipments, lack of autonomy, lack of in-service
training, insufficient basic amenities for day-to-day job performances
and lack of team spirit.
The study concluded that productivity in workers and efficiency in
health care delivery services can be hampered by factors we some time
overlook in work places.
