Operating a business or designing an O&P system can't be thought without understanding the culture concept. Cultural effects on O&P systems are also one of the main determinants on economic growth. Since a country's wealth comes from the goods and services they produced, the way or the system you make the production is, for sure, determines the wealth produced. Understanding culture, and the influence that it exercises on organizations, has motivated a wide variety of studies and perspectives working to define and examine what constitutes 'organizational culture'. One of the most extreme examples for cultural impacts on operations management that recorded in literature is from a Malaysian factory that managed by an American manager. In the middle of an average workday, a Malaysian factory worker started sobbing, laughing, and then shrieking. Suddenly, she started flailing at the machine where she was working and violently fought off attempts by the foreman and technicians to pull her away. Then the same things started happening with other workers. In a matter of minutes, 100 or more workers were screaming and beating on their machines. Managers soon learned that workers believed an evil spirit haunted the factory, and their outbursts were part of a feverish struggle against becoming possessed themselves. In the end, the factory shut down for three days and a spirit-healer was hired to slaughter a goat on the premises. The American director of the factory wondered how he would explain to corporate headquarters why the operation lost 8,000 hours of production. In order to understand the concept of cultural differences and their role in competition of major economies, one should understand the role of operational management upheavals and how did their guidance to shifting the center of gravity of global economy. I choose my firm cases from how cultural effects on production majorly lead a shift in its industry. I will focus on Henry Ford's production revolution, and how Toyota made it even efficient, how did these points are reflected biggest economy's competitions. My last case comprises a comparison of US airliners vs. Korean airliners and how their O&P systems perspectives have reflected to their global positions.
