The aim of the study is to find out whether there is any association between cognitive functions- Memory, Intelligence, Attention and Concentration with emotional factors like anxiety and anger in elderly to plan behavioral intervention. In this clinic-based study, 16 cases aged above 60 years were referred for neuropsychological assessment for memory disturbance, difficulty in concentration, forgetfulness, etc. (male 10, female 6). They were assessed on Wechsler Memory Scale, Bhatia’s Battery of Performance test of Intelligence, Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Scale and Anger Expression Scale. Personality factors like state anxiety, trait anxiety, overall anger expression, anger in and anger out were compared with the memory and IQ scores of individuals who had complaints of memory disturbances. Results showed that there is an association between emotional factors like state anxiety, trait anxiety...

This indicates that the dog could be contagious over many weeks without effectively clearing the virus. Goumenou et al. hypothesize that dogs may act as intermediate hosts for the virus.4 They further propose that dogs may have played a role in the exponential rate of infection in Northern Italy. Their findings are bolstered by the existing knowledge that the virus can infect the cells of many other mammals, including Chinese horseshoe bats, civets, and pigs in in-vitro studies.5

Case summary We present a case report of a 43-year-old previously fit patient who suffered from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection with thrombosis of the coronary arteries causing acute myocardial infarction. These were treated with coronary stenting during which the patient suffered cardiac arrest. He was supported with automated chest compressions followed by peripheral veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO). No immediate recovery of the myocardial function was observed and, after insufficient venting of the left ventricle was diagnosed, an Impella 5 pump was implanted. The cardiovascular function recovered sufficiently and ECMO was explanted and inotropic infusions discontinued. Due to SARS-CoV-2 pulmonary infection, hypoxia became resistant to conventional mechanical ventilation and the patient was nursed prone overnight. After initial recovery of respirato...

In contrast, management of preoperative AF is often overlooked during or after cardiac surgery despite several proposed protocols. This study sought to evaluate the impact of preoperative AF on mortality in patients undergoing isolated surgical aortic valve replacement (AVR). Methods We performed a retrospective, single-centre study involving 2,628 consecutive patients undergoing elective, primary isolated surgical AVR from 2008 to 2018. A total of 268/ 2,628 patients (10.1%) exhibited AF before surgery. The effect of preoperative AF on mortality was evaluated with univariate and multivariate analyses. Results Short-term mortality was 0.8% and was not different between preoperative AF and SR cohorts. Preoperative AF was highly predictive of long-term morta...

The aim of this study was to gain insight into current practices of Australian dentists for deep caries management and to determine their procedural and materials choices. Methods: An online questionnaire was sent to 1988 randomly selected practitioners across Australia asking their choice of treatment in a tooth showing symptoms of reversible pulpitis and deep caries. A total of 255 (12.6%) practitioners responded. Results: About 85% of respondents chose selective caries removal to selective removal (SR) while 15% chose non-selective removal to hard dentine. Respondents whose preferred approach was SR had greater odds in believing that incomplete caries removal alone would not have any effect on pulp vitality (OR = 5.20) and had greater odds of thinking that peripheral seal was more important than other factors (OR = 3.50). They also had lesser odds of believing that placing a liner would reduce postoperative sensitivity (OR = 0.269) and lesser odds of thinking that removal of all bacteria or carious dentine was important when placing a restoration (OR = 0.196). Conclusion: Most Australian dentists reported practising evidence-based carious tissue removal strategies and accepted the concept of selectively leaving carious dentine under a sealed restoration.

The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the endodontic treatment completion rate at a University student clinic and to identify the factors associated with completion rates. The records of all patients who commenced an endodontic treatment (code 415) from January 2015 to December 2015 were extracted. A total of 783 records were available for analysis of which 86% received complete endodontic treatment. Maxillary first molars were significantly associated with incomplete endodontic treatment (IET). Patients requiring an additional visit (code 455) were 1.5 times more likely to have an IET. The endodontic treatment completion rate at the School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland is higher than those reported in other international university-based student clinics. Focus group surveys of students and supervisors are required to identify the reasons for higher IET with maxillary first molars and code 455.
Depositional history and provenance of cratonic “Purana” basins in southern India: A multipronged geochronology approach to the Proterozoic Kaladgi and Bhima basins
Geological Journal, 2018
Peninsular India is a collage of Archaean cratonic domains separated by Proterozoic mobile belts.... more Peninsular India is a collage of Archaean cratonic domains separated by Proterozoic mobile belts. A number of cratonic basins, known as “Purana basins” in the Indian literature, formed in different parts of the Indian Peninsula during extensional tectonic events, from Paleoproterozoic through Neoproterozoic times. In this contribution, we present a diversity of new geochronological data for different units within the Kaladgi and the Bhima basins, which overlie the western and eastern Dharwar cratons, respectively. The new geochronology data are discussed in terms of depositional history and provenance of these poorly understood Proterozoic intracratonic basins. For the Kaladgi Group, a U–Pb baddeleyite age of 1,861 ± 4 Ma obtained for a dolerite dyke intruding the Yendigere Formation is used to constrain the minimum age of deposition of the lower Kaladgi Group. This result demonstrates that this part of the succession is comparable in age to the Papaghni Group of the Cuddapah Basin, heralding onset of Purana sedimentation at ~1,900 Ma. The detrital zircon populations from the clastic rocks of the Kaladgi and Bhima basins show unique and distinct age patterns indicating different source of sediments for these two basins. Palaeocurrent analysis indicates a change in provenance from south or southeast to west or northwest between the Kaladgi and Bhima clastic sedimentation. New U–Th–Pb and Rb–Sr radiometric dates of limestones and glauconite-bearing sandstones of the Bhima Group (Bhima Basin) and the Badami Group (Kaladgi Basin) indicate deposition at around 800–900 Ma, suggesting contemporaneity for the two successions. Thus, the unconformity between the Kaladgi Group and the overlying Badami Group represents a time gap of up to 1,000 Myr. These new results demonstrate the complex multistage burial and unroofing history of the Archaean Dharwar Craton throughout the Proterozoic, with important implications for exploration of metal deposits and diamonds in Peninsular India. The suggested completions are updated each time the user modifies their partial query, as they either add further keystrokes or interact directly with completions that have been offered. In this work we use a state model to capture the possible interactions that can occur in a QAC environment. Using this model, we show how an abstract QAC log can be derived from a sequence of QAC interactions; this log does not contain the actual characters entered, but records only the sequence of types of interaction, thus preserving user anonymity with extremely high confidence. To validate the usefulness of the approach, we use a large scale abstract QAC log collected from a popular commercial search engine to demonstrate how previous and new knowledge about QAC behavior can be inferred without knowledge of the queries being entered. An interaction model is then derived from this log to demonstrate its validity, and we report observations on user behavior with QAC systems based on the interaction model that is proposed.

It has strengthened its importance in conventional industry in its bulk form as efficient lubricant. Its conversion from indirect to direct band gap with change of size has led to its usage as semiconductors in electronics industry. Few prominent domains which have recently found its utility are in flexible electronics, transparent transistor devices, and other co-opted fields for biological and chemical applications etc. In this work, an attempt is made to compile and encapsulate all aspects related to material with a brief description of structure, synthesis, properties and applications, so as to provide useful information for researchers and engineers.

In view of a significantly raised high-sensitivity troponin I assay, inferior wall hypokinesis on transthoracic echocardiography and despite unobstructed epicardial vessels on emergency coronary angiography, a diagnosis of myocardial infarction was made. Furthermore, the patient also developed both bilateral adrenal haemorrhages leading to acute adrenal insufficiency and microvascular thrombotic renal disease concurrently. The patient therefore fulfilled the diagnostic criteria for catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome presenting with cardiac, endocrine and renal involvement. Early diagnosis permitted appropriate treatment with anticoagulation, dual antiplatelet therapy, secondary prevention and corticosteroid replacement therapy and led to a full recovery. Thi...

MoS2/Ag nanocomposites were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy and selected area electron diffraction. XRD patterns confirmed the presence of MoS2 and Ag phases in the synthesized composite. Photocatalytic ability of the nanocomposite evaluated against methylene blue (MB) and Novacron Red Huntsman (NRH) dye under normal light source for 80 min. Catalytic loading (1 g/L) lead to maximum degradation rate of 77.9% and 77.5% for MB and NRH dye respectively. Nanocomposites exhibited sensing ability against nitrobenzene. The sensing capability was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry electrochemical technique. Mechanisms of the photocatalytic activity and electrochemical sensing are also explained herewith.
