Emerging Technologies for User-Friendly Mobile Payment Applications

The advancement and the evolution of mobile communications and mobile device technology have led ... more The advancement and the evolution of mobile communications and mobile device technology have led to a remarkable growth and tremendous requirement for mobile applications that are carried on mobile phones. These technologies have lead to the deployment of business, communications, and mobile services, and hence, gave rise to mobile payments. The mobile payments are considered as the killer applications and are real-time cashless payments. Mobile payments take place with the help of mobile telephony and communications where maintaining security solutions becomes an important factor. This chapter describes the different emerging technologies carried out between a resource-limited mobile device and a resource-rich computer server over wireless networks.

According to the Mobile Payment Forum, mobile payments are the transactions with a monetary value... more According to the Mobile Payment Forum, mobile payments are the transactions with a monetary value that is conducted through a mobile telecommunications network through diverse mobile users devices, such as cellular telephones, smart phones or PDAs, and mobile terminals. Mobile payment is a transfer of funds in return for goods or services in which a mobile device is functionally involved in executing and confirming payment. The payer can be standing at a POS or be interacting with a merchant located somewhere else. Mobile payment systems enable customers to purchase and pay for goods or services via mobile phones. Here, each mobile phone is used as the personal payment tool in connection with the remote sales. Payments can take place far away from both the recipient and the bank. This chapter gives an overview of mobile payments.

The unique advantage of mobile payments over traditional payments has led to tremendous growth of mobile phones. The strong demand of mobile applications raised increased concern on the security of mobile applications as well as devices. New mobile devices are developed to serve various functions like storing sensitive information, accessing this information as well transacting this information through payment systems. In order to protect this information and mobile devices, a well defined authentication system is mandatory. Biometric authentication is much more safe and secure and very easy to use. In this paper we propose a multi modal biometric authentication procedure with respect to payment systems and integrate this model with our previous work. The aim of this paper is to integrate the proposed payment model with multi server authentication model for the purpose of maintaining security and accessing different servers (websites). The system providing resources to be accessed over the network often consists of many different servers through out the world. The distribution of the remote system hardware in different places makes the user access the resources more efficiently and conveniently.

Mobile payment is considered as the accelerator of M-commerce. The internet and the mobile phone are basically two technological advancements that have created an impact on mobile payments. Using a variety of platforms and services mobile devices can perform many activities as compared to traditional payments. Mobile payments have also contributed to the banking industry. Which is a new activity in terms of mobile banking? Banking is an area that has extended by the use of wireless internet and mobile devices. Mobile banking is the symbiosis of technology and financial services. Despite of the convenience and business opportunities mobile banking and mobile payments are not used by people in India especially in the remote areas. This paper proposes a simple model of payment which takes into consideration the different modes of payment. This proposed work introduces alternative ways for providing mobile banking services aimed at Android O.S due to the use of mobile devices. The aim of the this work is to develop a model of payment that integrates with the financial services, including payment and banking ones, based on two primary capabilities: the use of computational resources of a trusted mobile device and the establishment of a user controlled channel with the customers bank.
