Friction stir welding (FSW) is a resource-efficient and environmental-friendly solid state joinin... more Friction stir welding (FSW) is a resource-efficient and environmental-friendly solid state joining process that allows to combine especially aluminum alloys with superior joint quality. Therefore, FSW is perfectly suitable for lightweight applications. The interaction of material, welding tool and machine during welding results in process forces which show characteristic periodic variations. The reasons for this periodicity, however, are not completely understood yet. Since the welding force feedback data can presumably be used for online process monitoring, a deeper understanding of the processes leading to the friction stir welding dynamics is necessary. To reach this goal, an approach for a systematic investigation of the friction stir welding dynamics using postulated hypotheses is presented in this work. The hypotheses combine insights from literature as well as results from own welding experiments. In the experiments two aluminum alloys, EN AW 6016 and EN AW 6111, in tempers T4 and T6 each, were friction stir welded. The welding machine, the tool as well as the welding parameters were held constant for each material. The process forces, accelerations and spindle deflection were measured for each weld and additionally the joints were inspected visually for flaws. It was shown that the height of the process forces correlates loosely with the yield strength of the materials. The frequencies occurring during welding are identified to mainly consist of the spindle rotating speed and multiples thereof. The acceleration measurements are found to be a suitable way to identify welds with irregular surfaces, i.e. they provide a method for online process monitoring regarding the weld surface quality. Combining the findings from literature and insights from the experiments, five hypotheses are developed that allow a systematic investigation of the dynamics of the friction stir welding process. Each hypothesis covers a phenomenon that can lead to dynamic effects. The hypotheses consider not only the process but the whole system of process and machine. In addition to the hypotheses, a method to prove or disprove them, where the specific effects are triggered intentionally, is presented.

Carbon-Kevlar fibers are included into the LY 556 resin and AR 951 hardener. Fiber makes for 40% of the study's total weight. The carbon and Kevlar composites were created by hand lay-up. The orientation considered in this research is 0/0 and 0/90 for both carbon and Kevlar composites. Advanced characterizations such as TMA and DMA has been integrated in this research. By using DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer) and the thermomechanical Analyzer (TMA), the dynamic properties were acquired. ASTM E756 was used to conduct the tests. Composite heating at room temperature to 1200 C was the temperature variable under investigation. The studies were conducted on TMA and DMA with a force of 0.002N, respectively. DMA uses a three-point bending loading design for its samples. Temperature affects the dimensions, storage modulus, loss modulus, and tan delta.

This work presents an experimental investigation on the submerged jet flow characteristics of a cylindrical orifice under conditions of varied boundary pressures. A full-scale optical test rig is set up to examine the submerged flow of the cylindrical orifice based on a fuel pump test bench. The optical experimental results reveal that the inner cylindrical orifice flow induces cavitation and causes influences on the submerged jet flow. As the inner cavitation is at the cylindrical orifice outlet, the cylindrical orifice discharge coefficient declines but the mass flow rate becomes choking. The test results also show the boundary pressures (the inlet and outlet pressures) of the cylindrical orifice have great influences on the impingement force of the submerged jet flow. The development process of the impingement force is divided into two periods: the stable period and the fluctuation period. Moreover, the impingement force increases quadratically with the increase in the mass flow rate. Once the choking flow happens, it is useless to increase the jet impingement force by improving the inlet pressure.

TMCs and wear test samples were characterized by the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Dry sliding wear narrative of the composites was estimated on a pin-on-disc machine at various loads of 20-60N, sliding velocity of 2-6m/s and sliding distance from 1000m-3000m. The wear rate of the composite was reduced by augmentation in weight fraction of boron carbide from 3-9%. The benefits of interfacial TMCs with B 4 C are: increase in strength, wear-resistance, and volume fraction. ANN was planned and utilizes a Levenburg-Marquardt program algorithm to reduce the mean squared error using a back-propagation technique. The input parameters are considered to include load, sliding velocity, and sliding distance. The experimental results of an ANN model and regression model are compared. ANN replicas have been urbanized to foreshow experimental rate of wear and CoF of TMCs and examined that ANN predictions have exceptional concord with deliberated values. Accordingly, the prediction of wear rate and CoF of TMCs using ANN in earlier actual manufacture will significantly save the manufacturing time, exertion, and expenditure.

Its subtitle is inspired by the name of an article appearing in the revised version of Beyond the Hot Seat Revisted: Gestalt Approaches to Group, edited by Bud Feder and Jon Frew (2008). And the editorial’s focal theme owes its existence in part to a photograph, reproduced below, taken by this writer as she walked on the path toward San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge late in 2008. Its figural shadow, or shadowy figure, depicted therein is (in her view) a graphic image of how, to cite Cole, “there will always be a shadow side to all experience; in accepting this truth, we learn to work with the shadow rather than to deny its existence” (p. 178).

Exponential extraction and pollution of fossil fuel inspire and motivates researchers and scientists to explore the various alternatives. Schleichera Oleosa based biodiesel is one such fuel of its physical and chemical characteristics near conventional diesel to investigate its performance and emissions of the 4S, water-cooled, naturally aspired IDI CI engine. The same findings were also compared with the SO straight vegetable oil and conventional diesel operation. Biodiesel output based on Schleichera Oleosa is similar to diesel operations with marginal pollution penalties.

In pure individual policy, failed item is replaced immediately by procuring in the local available market spending the amount at market price. As the usage time increases, the rate of failure increases. In that case, the individual replacement cost always increase proportional to usage period. Replacing the total lot of items as a whole or lot is a better option to consider. In group replacement, lot is replacement at a specified period irrespective of the usage period and condition of the item. As the failure rate in the initial days of the usage period, item replacement cost in the individual replacement case as well as group replacement case is more or less in a narrow price region. We need to take a better decision by comparing Average cost in both the cases. In the present paper, a novel approach is proposed to minimize the number of steps to find the average cost using Table method. The proposed algorithm is programmed in EXCEL. The proposed algorithm can be extended for any number of periods of operation.

The links which are having same functional behavior are grouped as same inversion. In the present paper, an additive approach based on connectivities of the links is proposed. The functional behavior of any link as a part of k-chain can be found by means of topological analysis. In general, adjacency of a link with other links is a primary tool for the topological analysis. In the present paper, the extent of adjacency consideration is the main criteria by which similar functional behavior leading to same inversion is identified. A new parameter ‘Additive Adjacency’ is defined in the algorithm. A new computation table ‘Remote Adjacency Influence Table’ (RAIT) is introduced to control the progress of the adjacency calculations. The proposed method is tested on various linkages (8, 9, 10) with different Degree of Freedom (DoF).
