World tool kit (WTK) is selected as the platform for VR environment. It is an advanced cross-platform development environment for high-performance, realtime 3D graphics applications. With the high-level application programmer's interface (API), end-users of WTK can write codes to call the functions in WTK function library, and then create the virtual world. To add and modify data of CAD models in a VR environment, a two-way data transformer between VR and CAD environment should be implemented. When the models are modified on AutoCAD, corresponding data in the VR environment should be automatically updated, and vice versa. Since the modeling functions of AutoCAD will be directly utilized, making changes to the structural models under AutoCAD will be convenient. In order to display the 3D models in a VR environment, data of models generated from AutoCAD must be translated into one of the formats that WTK can process. That is, after constructing the models under AutoCAD, users should save them in a DXF format file at first, and then use the WUM to open this DXF file, and make further conversion or map textures.

This paper attributes the above phenomenon to lack of precise classification of various political connection types in China. Based on existing literature, this paper divides political connections into current political connections and former political connections, and identifies their own hierarchy. Empirical study using Chinese Private Enterprise Survey data shows that different sorts of political connections all contribute to enterprise performance, and internal governance plays the mediating role. Overall, this paper may make marginal contributions to the study on the relationship between political connections and enterprise performance.

Research paper thumbnail of VNTR typing studies of Mycobacterium leprae in China: Assessment of methods and stability of markers during treatment

Leprosy Review, 2009

To evaluate the reliability and feasibility of two methods of multilocus variable number of tande... more To evaluate the reliability and feasibility of two methods of multilocus variable number of tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) for strain typing of M. leprae, and to study whether short tandem repeat loci are stable and suitable for epidemiological study of leprosy. Total DNA was extracted from skin biopsies of 20 new multibacillary (MB) patients from China diagnosed in 2006. To determine the copy numbers of short tandem repeats (STRs) for 13 loci, we amplified each locus individually by PCR, followed by sequence analysis of the amplicons. Separately, the same loci, plus four others were amplified by Multiplex PCRs (MP) using fluorescent primers and the copy number was identified by fragment length analysis (MP-FLA). MLVA was also performed at different times during treatment for a subset of the patients. Genetic variability of M. leprae in China can be assessed in microsatellite loci. (GTA)9 and (TTC)21 loci are hypervariable, with array sizes of 25 repeat units or more. The expansion of the (GTA)9 locus is a characteristic of some M. leprae isolates in China. A high level of allele concordance was observed between PCR-sequencing and MP-FLA methods. However, MP-FLA method was cost-effective, rapid, high throughput and suitable for strain typing. Five of the 20 isolates of M. leprae were from patients residing in the same township in Qiubei County, Yunnan, and matched closely by MLVA. Three of these patients are family contacts of previously diagnosed patients, with intra-familial strain types being similar, suggesting infections from common sources and transmission chain(s). The VNTR patterns were highly similar in biopsy and slit skin smears (SSS) before treatment, and in the SSS collected at various time points during treatment. Taken together, VNTR strain typing is a useful tool for study of short range transmission in leprosy.

The chemical composition of the bio-oil acquired was analyzed by GC/MS, and its pH, kinetic viscosity and calorific values were determined. In the pyrolysis system used in this experiment, some improvements to former pyrolysis systems were done. Two screw feeders were used to prevent jamming the feeding system, and the condenser was equipped with some nozzles and a heat exchanger to cool quickly the cleaned hot gas into bio-oil. The results showed that the bio-oil yield increased with increasing pyrolysis temperature and then declined with a further increase in pyrolysis temperature. The highest bio-oil yield of 43.3 wt.% was obtained at 500°C with the dolomite as bed material. The char yield always decreased with the increase of temperature. The major chemical compounds of bio-oil included acetol, butanone, acetic acid, propionic acid, ethylene glycol, phenol, etc. Pyrolysis oil was completely immiscible in diesel, but homogeneous emulsions were obtained when mixing the pyrolysis oil, emulsifier with diesel in different ratios.

Both components of the resistance (interfacial, due to poor contact with electrolytes, and bulk, due to a thick electrolyte) are a result of the rudimentary manufacturing capabilities that exist for solid-state electrolytes. In general, solid electrolytes are studied as flat pellets with planar interfaces, which minimizes interfacial contact area. Here, multiple ink formulations are developed that enable 3D printing of unique solid electrolyte microstructures with varying properties. These inks are used to 3D-print a variety of patterns, which are then sintered to reveal thin, nonplanar, intricate architectures composed only of Li La Zr O solid electrolyte. Using these 3D-printing ink formulations to further study and optimize electrolyte structure could lead to solid-state batteries with dramati...

HDPCs were cultured with CH, C3S and tricalcium silicate/dicalcium silicate (CaSiO/CaSiO, C3S/C2S) composites extract. The CCK-8 assay showed that the composite material stimulated the proliferation of hDPCs. The odontogenic marker genes and DSPP protein expression were more significantly up-regulated by the C3S/C2S composite material compared with pure CH and C3S. HDPCs cultured with composite material extract exert stronger ALP activity and alizarin red S staining. C3S/C2S composite material was advantageous over pure C3S by showing enhanced ability to stimulate the proliferation and odontogenic differentiation of hDPCs, suggesting that the C3S/C2S composite materials possess desirable biocompatibility and bioacti...

Research paper thumbnail of Variations of sludge characteristics during the advanced anaerobic digestion process and the dewaterability of the treated sludge conditioning with PFS, PDMDAAC and synthesized PFS-PDMDAAC

Water science and technology : a journal of the International Association on Water Pollution Research, 2018

Anaerobic digestion with thermal hydrolysis pretreatment (THP), also called advanced anaerobic di... more Anaerobic digestion with thermal hydrolysis pretreatment (THP), also called advanced anaerobic digestion (AAD), is a mainstream technology for sludge treatment. AAD changes sludge, it can degrade extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), release EPS from the sludge, and alter the particle size distribution. We synthesized PFS-PDMDAAC from the inorganic coagulant polyferric sulfate (PFS) and the organic coagulant polymer polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride (PDMDAAC) in various PFS:PDMDAAC weight ratios. We investigated the effects of PFS-PDMDAAC pretreatment on AAD sludge dewaterability, and developed an explanation for them. Capillary suction time (CST) was used as a measure of sludge dewaterability. Dissolved organic matter, the three-dimensional excitation emission matrix, particle size (d), zeta potential, and sludge microstructure were observed in order to explain changes in sludge dewaterability that resulted from different compositions and dosages of coagulants. Treatment wit...

According to PERK gene cDNA sequence, shRNA was designed and synthesized, which was then annealed into hU6-MCS-CMV-EGFP vector. After identified by sequencing, hU6-MCS-CMV-EGFP vector and packaging vector were co-transfected into 293 T cells. 72 hours later, the recombinant lentiviruses were obtained after harvesting and concentrating. Then LV-PERK-RNAi vectors were transfected into DPCs at an appropriate multiplicity of infection. To verify the interference effect, real- time PCR and Western blot were used to detect expression levels of PERK mRNA and protein in the transfected DPCs. The data were analyzed with SPSS 24.0 software package. LV-PERK-RNAi vectors were successfully constructed with a high titer of 3×10 TU/mL. The results of RT-PCR and Western blot demonstrated that after infection with LV-PERK-RNAi vec...

A total of 30 pregnant BALB/c mice, including their offspring, were randomly divided into three groups: In the maternal intervention group (Ba), maternal mice were treated with from birth until weaning at postnatal day 21 (PD21) followed by administration of saline to the offspring at PD21-28; in the offspring intervention group (Ab), breast-feeding maternal mice were supplemented with saline and offspring were directly supplemented with from PD21-28; in the both maternal and offspring intervention group (Bb), both maternal mice and offspring were supplemented with at PD 0-21 and at PD21-28. While mice in the control group were given the same volume of normal saline. Stool samples from the offspring were collected at PD14, -21 and -28 to observe the intestinal flora by colony counts of spp., spp., sp...

Research paper thumbnail of 3D-Printing Electrolytes for Solid-State Batteries

Research paper thumbnail of Safety of Low-calcium Dialysate and its Effects on Coronary Artery Calcification in Patients Undergoing Maintenance Hemodialysis

Scientific reports, Jan 13, 2018

A total of 174 MHD patients were recruited and randomly divided into two groups: high-calcium dialysate (HCD, 1.5 mmol/L Ca) and low-calcium dialysate (LCD, 1.25 mmol/L Ca). Changes in CAC score (CACS) and cardiac function were evaluated using spiral computed tomography and echocardiography, respectively. Clinical and laboratory parameters were measured. Intra-dialysis adverse reactions were recorded and compared between the two groups. CACS was significantly lower in the LCD group than in the HCD group by the end of the study. Cardiac E/A was significantly higher in the LCD group than in the HCD group by the end of the study. There was no significant difference in the frequency of any intra-dialysis adverse reactions between the two groups during the study. LCD is helpful in maintaini...
