With the methods of mass spectrometer (VG354) and ICP, the Nd isotopic compositions (εNd(t)), Mn contents and Mg/Sr ratios of carbonate phase have been analyzed. CaCO3 contents of bulk sediments were obtained by dissolution of 0.5 mol/L HCl. Based on these data, the high-resolution εNd(t) profile of seawater in early Miocene with core depth(or time) have been established. The values of εNd(t) range from -6.2 to -2.97 and 4 fluctuation cycles existed during 24.06-22.02 Ma. 4 low εNd(t) values (about-6.4) correspond to high CaCO3 contents, which implicates that there were 4 cold epochs or 4 times of Antarctic Bottom Water activity. They occurred at the time of 24.06 Ma, 23.85 Ma, 22.88 Ma and 22.26 Ma, respectively. High εNd(t) values correspond to the high Mn contents and high values of Mg/Sr ratio, which indicates the existence of 4 intense hydrothermal activity periods during 24.06-22 Ma, the durations of them are 4.05-23.98 Ma, 23.69-23.15 Ma, 22.74-22.37 Ma and 22.06-22.02 Ma, respectively.

PHFMA-g-PSPEG intercalated to the DNA base pair via a strong hydrophobic force, and this was conformed by ultraviolet spectroscopy, transmittance measurements, micropolarity measurements, resonance light scattering (RLS) spectroscopy, and particle size measurements. The copolymer was used as a new probe to detect DNA according to the RLS technique. The hydrophobic interaction between PHFMA-g-PSPEG and DNA significantly enhanced the RLS signal, and the enhanced RLS intensity at 422 nm was proportional to the nucleic acid concentration within the range of 0.09–0.90 mg/L with a detection limit (3σ) of 4.0 μg/L. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The interactions between P(HFMA)-g-P(SPEG) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were studied by synchronous fluorescence and intrinsic fluorescence spectroscopy. It was concluded through synchronous fluorescence that P(HFMA)-g-P(SPEG) mainly bound to tryptophan residues of BSA. Intrinsic fluorescence results revealed that BSA and P(HFMA)-g-P(SPEG) had strong interactions. The mechanism of quenching belonged to dynamic quenching and the main sort of binding force was hydrophobic force. The hydrophobic interaction between P(HFMA)-g-P(SPEG) and BSA was conformed by micropolarity and TEM photographs.

Monodisperse nanoparticles containing poly(propylene imine)(NH2)32-polystyrene were prepared by emulsion atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (St), using the DAB-Am-32-Cl/CuCl/bpy as initiating system. The structure of macroinitiator was characterized by FTIR spectrum, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The structure of poly(propylene imine)(NH2)32-polystyrene was characterized by FT-IR spectrum and 1H NMR; the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of poly(propylene imine)(NH2)32-polystyrene were characterized by gel permeation chromatograph (GPC). The morphology, size and size distribution of the nanoparticles were characterized by photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The effects of monomer/macroinitiator ratio and surfactant concentration on the size and size distribution of the nanoparticles were investigated. It was found that the diameters of the nanoparticles were smaller than 100 nm (30–80 nm) and monodisperse; moreover, the particle size could be controlled by monomer/macroinitiator ratios and surfactant concentration. With the increasing of the ratio of St/DAB-Am-32-Cl, the number-average diameter (Dn), weight-average diameter (Dw) were both increased gradually. With enhancing the surfactant concentration, the measured Dh of the nanoparticles decreased, while the polydispersity increased. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. These discrete schemes are of Toeplitz or nearly Toeplitz structure, which gives many advantages in developing fast linear solvers for numerical solution of intego-differential equations. Two examples are presented to confirm our theoretical analysis of approximations to the Hadamard finite-part integrals and to show the accuracy of schemes for solving integral equations with a hypersingular kernel. Finally, we apply our algorithms for electromagnetic scattering from cavities. Numerical results show that these algorithms are efficient.

In this iterative algorithm, a physical model with a vertically layered medium is employed as a preconditioner of the model of general media. A fast algorithm developed in (SIAM J. Sci. Comput. 2005; 27:553–574) is applied for solving the model of layered media and classical Krylov subspace methods, restarted GMRES, COCG, and BiCGstab are employed for solving the preconditioned system. Our numerical experiments on cavity models with large numbers of mesh points and large wave numbers show that the algorithm is efficient and the number of iterations is independent of the number of mesh points and dependent upon the wave number.
