This paper explores the idea of café as third place and social interaction occurs in the café with Starbucks café as the focus of discussion. We argue that modern café like Starbucks offers a comforting and neutral ground for social interaction but some other characteristic of social interaction come up as the result of modern technology. Oldenburg distinguishes third places as public places on neutral ground where people can gather and interact (Oldenburg, 1991). In contrast to first places (home) and second places (work), third places serve as places for creative and social interaction and often considered anchors of community life. The characteristic of cafés as third space relates to the social interaction occurs at the neighborhood that in terms may enhances quality of life and provide social bounding. With the development of information technology, some characteristics of third places are changed although third places still become an important medium for social interaction as well as in increasing the ability of the city to be more adaptable to changes. Conversation is still the main activity at third place but many people use their electronic devices alongside face-to-face conversations. As a method, this study uses direct observations and qualitative analyses of UI Starbucks in as case studies.

The railway station is the place where the plantation products will be lifted and lowered by the train, and it becomes a significant city element for several small cities. This study aims to examine the history of urban space by investigating the historical traces of the object of this research, Cianjur Railway Station, to find its role as a new element in the colonial period. The method is qualitative with station studies in colonial urban spaces with analytical descriptive in presenting findings related to the relationship between the railway’s station and the development of agro-industries in Cianjur in its role as colonial city elements. The existence of the railway station, in the colonial period, made Cianjur not only as an administrative center but also as a distribution-production of industrial center. It is important to preserve the whole story of the building, the architectural form, and the memory related to the building as well as the society so that all of those aspects can be passed down to the next generation. The conservation of both tangible and intangible characters of a heritage building is a key aspect to attain a sustainable city and society. When a heritage building is physically destroyed, the connection among people, the building, the collective memory of the building is also vanished and this condition can be considered as an example of terror in architecture. This paper discusses terror in architecture, especially when the building is slowly destroyed, and the memory that people have about the building is being attacked. The aim of the paper is to investigate whether there is any linkage between the physical changes of the building and collective memory of the society. This study appoints Pasar Johar Semarang as a study case since it is a heritage building that experienced some changes and misfortunes such as fire incident in 2015. In order to do so, this paper will connect some theories on heritage building conservation, collective memory, and terror in architecture. This debate is even more relevant in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. This paper analyzed several examples of post-pandemic memorials, the historical and scientific contexts, as well as the varying attitudes of communities surrounding them. These analyses will refer to prior studies on the roles of memorials and monuments within the construction of memory and history, as well as the natural responses to grief and loss based on Freud's 1917 essay "Mourning and Melancholia". This paper emphasizes on how pandemicsparticularly the current one-changes lifestyles and the way communities occupy public and domestic spaces, as well as where memorials stand in this transformed architectural field.

This paper explores Ando's efforts to reconcile the principles of modernism and tradition in his architecture. In so doing, the discussion uses a phenomenological perspective built upon literature, interview, and analysis of his architectural works. The result shows that there is a reconciliation between modern and traditional values, which are predominantly represented through the application of concrete and clear compositions while maintaining building interaction with nature. The purpose of the community project conducted by the Architectural Team from the Universitas Indonesia is to assist the management of the Ragunan Zoo to develop part of the zoo area as an urban forest. The Zoo has already an intention to incorporate the urban forest not only as recreation space but as part of a larger development of the zoo that focuses more on the welfare of the animals and creating a memorable experience for visitors. The idea of landscape immersion, an approach in zoo design that incorporates the needs of both visitors and animals so that the zoo can be a place for education, conservation, and recreation, prioritizes the welfare of animals and natural conditions instead of focusing only at aspects related to human comforts. The development of the urban forest is intended to be a successful example of designing landscape and natural environment for the zoo. Accordingly, urban forest can support community activities and the need for green and open spaces for Jakarta. In doing so, this article outlines the importance of urban forest and addresses the benefit of good design for the zoo and providing green space for the city. Finally, this piece provides case study examples describing the context in designers use their knowledge and ability to help the management to collaborate with university and community in the development of the zoo, especially with the focus on urban forest as an extension of landscape immersion. In conclusion, through community engagement, not only the management can have design proposal but also students of Universitas Indonesia can take part in the design process of the urban project and connect with communities in the city.

In the previous era, this building had lost its glory due to the lack of focused planning for renovations, especially when Jakarta's development accelerated with the presence of many new modern buildings. This writing uses a qualitative descriptive method with a historical approach. The analysis of architectural typology on the building facade is conducted by exploring the history to find out the origin of events, functions, and simple forms of a building. The aim is to provide an overview of the importance of giving more attention to the renovation of historic buildings. Changes in building facades can show a different identity from one urban space related to the political and socio-cultural context.
