In this study, we compared the accuracy of cervical (C2-C7) pedicle screw fixation assisted by X-ray fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT)-based navigation, or intraoperative three-dimensional (3D) C-arm navigation. METHODS This prospective cohort study was performed in 82 consecutive patients who underwent cervical pedicle screw fixation. The accuracy of screw insertion was assessed by postoperative CT scan with 3D reconstruction. The accuracy of screw insertion was assessed as: excellent (screw completely within pedicle); acceptable (≤ 1 mm screw outside pedicle cortex); poor (> 1 mm screw outside pedicle cortex). RESULTS A total of 145 screws were inserted in 24 patients who underwent C-arm fluoroscopy. Of these, 96 screws (66.2%) were excellent, 37 (25.5%) were ac...

METHODS Sixteen lumbar simulation models at different degrees of axial rotation (0°, 5°, 10° and 20°), with every four assigned with the same degree, were equally divided into two groups (traditional method group and intraoperative 3D navigation group). Random placement of pedicle screws was carried out, followed by CT scan postoperatively. Then the outer pedicle cortex contours were depicted from reconstructed sectional pedicle images using Photoshop. The accuracy of pedicle screw placement was evaluated by determining the interrelationship between screw trajectory and pedicle cortex (qualitative) and measuring the shortest distance from pedicle screw axis to outer cortex of the pedicle (quantitative). RESULTS Eighty pedicle screws ...

Three solid solutions, Mn3-3xFe3xO4 (0.00£x£0.278), Mn3-3xFe3xO4(0.291£ x£0.667), and Mn2-2xFe2xO3 (0.89£x£1.00), have been identified by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). Rietveld refinement of the XRD data show that the solids belong to the hausmannite phase with the space group I41/ amd, the spinel phase with the space group Fd3m, and the hematite phase with the space group R3c, respectively. Between these are two-phase regions. 57 Fe Mössbauer spectra indicate that the valence state of Fe in the three solid solutions is +3; in addition, there are two crystallographically independent Fe 3 + ions in the unit cells of the hausmannite and spinel phases, and one Fe 3+ in the hematite phase. Analyses of 57 Fe Mössbauer spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) revealed that a formula of Mn 2+ 1-xFex 3+ [Mnx 2+ Fe 3+ x Mn 3+ 2-3x] O4 describes the cation distribution of both the hausmannite and spinel phases, but that for the hematite [Article] www.whxb.pku.edu.cn

However, the lack of studies on zinc smelting remains with convincing chronology limits our understanding on the history of zinc production. Our recent field survey in Yunnan province, southwest china, has discovered zinc-smelting sites in Qiaojia County. The location is in the Jinsha River Valley, which has abundant lead, zinc, copper and mineral coals. Large numbers of crucible and slags were excavated, which indicates a large scale of zinc production in the region. A profile of 10 layers containing slag pellets altered with fluvial sediments presents clear evidence of a series of zinc smelting events. The ages of both the fluvial sediment and slag layers have been obtained using luminescence dating. Detailed chronology indicates that large scale of zinc production in this area can be traced back to late Qing Dynasty (AD 1854).

A global service management system in such context is required to achieve efficient resource sharing and collaborative service provisioning. This paper presents VEGA system software, a novel grid platform that combines experiences from operating system design and current IP networks. VEGA is distinguished by its two design principles: a) ease of use. By service virtualization, VEGA provides users such a location-independent way to access services that grid applications could transparently benefit from systematic load balancing and error recovery. b) ease of deployment. The architecture of VEGA is fully decentralized without sacrificing efficiency, thanks to the mechanism of resource routing. The concept of grid adapters is developed to make joining and accessing the Grid a 'plug-and-play' process. VEGA has been implemented on Web Service platforms and all its components are OGSI-compliant services. To evaluate the overhead and performance of VEGA, we conducted experiments of two categories of benchmark set in a real size Grid environment. The results have shown that VEGA provides an efficient service discovery and selection framework with a reasonable overhead.

In this paper, we propose an alternative approach to solving the problems based on analysis results of profiling and the relations of the system parameters. Our approach adj usts the amount of task slots of nodes dynamically to match the processing power of the nodes, according to current task progress rate and resource utilization. It contrasts with the existing techniques by attempting to prevent task stragglers from occurring in the first place through maintaining a balance between resource supply and demand. We have implemented this method in the Hadoop MapReduce platform, and the TPC-H benchmark results show that it achieves 20-30% performance improvement and 35-88% less stragglers than existing techniques.

ABSTRACT The gut microbiota of fish plays an important role in mediating and stimulating host gas... more ABSTRACT The gut microbiota of fish plays an important role in mediating and stimulating host gastrointestinal (GI) development, aiding digestive function, maintaining mucosal tolerance, stimulating the host immune response and providing a level of protection against gastric infections. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which are generally considered as favourable bacteria due to their abilities to antagonize bacterial pathogens, are often identified as components of the gut microbiota of fish. Members of the Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Leuconostoc, Enterococcus and Streptococcus genera have been isolated by culture-dependent methods as minor components of the indigenous GI populations in salmonids. Carnobacterium species, such as C. (piscicola) maltaromaticum, C. mobile, C. divergens, C. alterfunitum-like, C. inhibens and Carnobacterium spp., have been thought to be the dominant/core LAB genus in salmonids and can account for up to 15% of the viable culturable populations. Recent culture-independent molecular analyses have led us to question whether Carnobacterium truly are the most prevalent LAB genus in salmonids. Techniques such as denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), temporal temperature gradient electrophoresis (TTGE), and 16S rRNA clone libraries confirm the presence of Carnobacterium spp. but have also identified Lactobacillus spp., Streptococcus spp., Lactococcus lactis, Weissella cibaria and Pediococcus sp. as indigenous species. In warm water fish species (e.g. sturgeon, zebrafish, carp, tilapia, grouper and cobia etc.), members of the genera Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Enterococcus, Pediococcus, Leuconostoc and Weissella have commonly been identified as the indigenous GI populations, while Carnobacterium species have rarely been identified. The dominant LAB in shellfish belong to the Pediococcus and Lactobacillus genera, including the species Lb. plantarum, Lb. acidophilus, Lb. bulgaricus, Lb. sporogenes, Lb. casei, Lb. brevis, Lb. helveticus and P. acidilactici. Although Bifidobacterium are commonly reported in the GI tract of mammals and terrestrial organisms, they are seldom reported in fish. Future experiments should attempt to quantify these bacterial groups using qPCR, FISH, metagenetic and metagenomic approaches. The importance of these bacteria in mediating host benefits, how they respond to dietary and environmental changes, and their potential to antagonize enteric pathogens, should be topics of future investigations.

But guide way rails deformation caused by oil film pressure and slider offset lead to oil film clearance change which affects static stiffness and guiding precision. An inside-slider hydrostatic guide way is designed, and its static characteristics are analyzed. As a result, the effect of slider offset on stiffness and guiding precisions is obtained. A FE model of guide way is established. An elastomer of virtual material properties is used to simulate oil film, so that the relationship between oil film clearance and pressure can be represented in a certain range. Static stiffness and guiding precision are obtained considering deformation of rails.
