However, writing research article is not easy for the student. This research aimed to find out the difficulties in writing research article, the cause of the difficulties in writing research article and the way to overcome the difficulties in writing research article. The respondents of this research were 4 fresh graduate students who graduated in 2020 and the data ware obtained through interview. This research used descriptive qualitative method by using the procedures from Miles and Huberman (1994). The result of this study shows that the difficulties in writing research article were in finding references and struggle in using correct grammar, the worry about feedback from the readers was the cause of the difficulties and the fresh graduate had their own solution to overcome the difficulties in writing research article. The participants in this study were 39 third-semester students. There are 3 instruments used in collecting data, namely observation, checklist, and test. The results of the observations showed an increase in understanding of the application of inquiry-based learning models from cycles one, two, and three. While from the checklist, it was seen that there was an increase in student activity from the first cycle to the third or last cycle. from the third instrument used to see the progress of students' writing skills, it can be seen that in cycle one the average student scores are 75 and 79 at the end of cycle 2 and 83.5 in the last cycle. This research used a qualitative method. The object of this research is the script of dialogues and narrations of the characters in Eaternal Nocturnal webtoon, namely episode two to episode six. The researcher used data sheets and tables as instruments. The researcher identified and categorized each expression based on Makkai's theory (1972) and using three dictionaries related to idioms, namely Farlex Dictionary of Idioms, Dictionary of American Idioms by McGraw-Hill's, and NCT's American Idioms Dictionary, then matched the meanings of lexemic idiomatic expressions from the dictionaries with the co-text contained in the dialogues or narrations of the characters to analyze the data. Recognize as descriptive quantitative, it focus on English-Indonesian internet memes post on 1CAK website; of all 170 memes; from August to October 2017. Checklist is use as Data collection techniques; with 6 pre-defined categories that act as variables for the instrument. The findings showed that Affixation (with the biggest percentage of 41.06%), followed by Shortening and Compounding (28.46% and 20.73% respectively). Meanwhile, the rarest among them were Blending (with the average percentage of 2.03%), followed by Coinage and Borrowing (3.25% and 4.47% respectively). An Analysis of Students Politeness Strategies to Their Lecturers in Whatsapp Messenger ( A Study in The Fifth Semester of English Education Study Program of Bengkulu University). English Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education. This research aimed to describe the politeness strategies applied by the fifth semester of English Department Students of Bengkulu University based on Brown and Levinson politeness strategies theory. This research was carried out by employing descriptive-qualitative design. The population of this research was the fifth semester of English Department Students of Bengkulu University in academic year 2017/2018. The samples of this research were taken by using situation card, i.e 79 samples. The data were collected by WhatsApp messages sent by students. The results of this study showed that the dominant strategy used by the English students in texting their lecturer was Negative Politeness. There were 59 students (76%) used Negative Politeness. The second position is Bald on Record that was used by 15 students (19%). Third, Positive Politeness was used by 3 students (4%). Last category was Off-record that used by 1 students (1%). Negative Politeness strategy gets the dominant used in the data findings. Most of the students still have awareness about politeness when they want to speak or start the conversation with other people. They tend to use this category in line with Indonesian culture that emphasized with formal language use when converse with older people like lecturer or teacher. An Analysis of Discourse Markers Used by Students in Writing Argumentative Text. Undergraduate Thesis. Bengkulu: English Education Study Programof Department of Language and Art of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Bengkulu University. This study was designed as ananalytical research which was aimed to analyzeDiscourse Markers used by students in writing argumentative text. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test. The theories used were from Fraser (1999) combined Martinez (2004) to find the dominant of Discourse Markers and Kao and Chen (2011) to find the accuracy of Discourse Markers written by the students. The subjects of this study were78 fifth semester students of English study program in the academic year of 2018/2019. The result of the study showed that the dominant Discourse Markers found was Elaborative Markers (33.91%) with Alsooccur 101 occurrences (29.28%).In addition, the result also showed that most of the students could use Discourse Markers accurately in writing argumentative text because the inappropriateness found was only 18 (5.19%) from 345 Discourse Markers. An Analysis of Students’ English Competence in the TOEFL Structure and Written Expression Section (A Descriptive Study at the English Education Study Program of Universitas Bengkulu) Supervisor : Dr. Wisma Yunita, M.Pd. Co-Supervisor : Zahrida, S.S. M.Hum. The objectives of this research were to find out students‟ English competence in the TOEFL structure and written expression section, the highest percentage of the students‟ mistakes in the Structure and Written Expression section and factors that influencing the students‟ difficulties in responding to the Structure and Written Expression section in the TOEFL. This research involved all of the 6th semester students of the English Education Study Program of Universitas Bengkulu who had passed all structure courses. The data were taken from a TOEFL test and an interview. The result shows that majority of the students‟ English competence was poor. More than half of the students (56%) were placed in poor category. The result also reveals the most difficult topic in grammar section was redundancy. This topic has the highest incorrect answer, amounting to 66%. There were two factors that affected the students‟ performance in redundancy, ambiguity and the interference of first language. In contrast, gerund and infinitives were the easiest topic in grammar section. Simple rules and the most common expression were contributed to the students‟ performance in gerund and infinitives. In responding to structure and written expression section there were four factors that influenced students‟ difficulties, poor understanding of grammar, less focus, lack of practice and limited vocabulary. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester 6 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Bengkulu tahun akademik 2016/2017. Sampel penelitian ini dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling, yakni 59 mahasiswa. Fifteen English RA introductions by International authors were analyzed by using disourse analysis technique, using quantitative as well as qualitative method and following Swales’s CARS Model (1990). The participants in this study were 39 third-semester students. There are 3 instruments used in collecting data, namely observation, checklist, and test. The results of the observations showed an increase in understanding of the application of inquiry-based learning models from cycles one, two, and three. While from the checklist, it was seen that there was an increase in student activity from the first cycle to the third or last cycle. from the third instrument used to see the progress of students' writing skills, it can be seen that in cycle one the average student scores are 75 and 79 at the end of cycle 2 and 83.5 in the last cycle. This research used a qualitative method. The object of this research is the script of dialogues and narrations of the characters in Eaternal Nocturnal webtoon, namely episode two to episode six. Recognize as descriptive quantitative, it focus on English-Indonesian internet memes post on 1CAK website; of all 170 memes; from August to October 2017. Checklist is use as Data collection techniques; with 6 pre-defined categories that act as variables for the instrument. The findings showed that Affixation (with the biggest percentage of 41.06%), followed by Shortening and Compounding (28.46% and 20.73% respectively). Meanwhile, the rarest among them were Blending (with the average percentage of 2.03%), followed by Coinage and Borrowing (3.25% and 4.47% respectively). An Analysis of Students Politeness Strategies to Their Lecturers in Whatsapp Messenger ( A Study in The Fifth Semester of English Education Study Program of Bengkulu University). English Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education. This research aimed to describe the politeness strategies applied by the fifth semester of English Department Students of Bengkulu University based on Brown and Levinson politeness strategies theory. This research was carried out by employing descriptive-qualitative design. The population of this research was the fifth semester of English Department Students of Bengkulu University in academic year 2017/2018. The samples of this research were taken by using situation card, i.e 79 samples. The data were collected by WhatsApp messages sent by students. The results of this study showed that the dominant strategy used by the English students in texting their lecturer was Negative Politeness. There were 59 students (76%) used Negative Politeness. The second position is Bald on Record that was used by 15 students (19%). Third, Positive Politeness was used by 3 students (4%). Last category was Off-record that used by 1 students (1%). Negative Politeness strategy gets the dominant used in the data findings. Most of the students still have awareness about politeness when they want to speak or start the conversation with other people. They tend to use this category in line with Indonesian culture that emphasized with formal language use when converse with older people like lecturer or teacher. Bengkulu: English Education Study Programof Department of Language and Art of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Bengkulu University. This study was designed as ananalytical research which was aimed to analyzeDiscourse Markers used by students in writing argumentative text. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test. The theories used were from Fraser (1999) combined Martinez (2004) to find the dominant of Discourse Markers and Kao and Chen (2011) to find the accuracy of Discourse Markers written by the students. The subjects of this study were78 fifth semester students of English study program in the academic year of 2018/2019. The result of the study showed that the dominant Discourse Markers found was Elaborative Markers (33.91%) with Alsooccur 101 occurrences (29.28%).In addition, the result also showed that most of the students could use Discourse Markers accurately in writing argumentative text because the inappropriateness found was only 18 (5.19%) from 345 Discourse Markers. An Analysis of Students’ English Competence in the TOEFL Structure and Written Expression Section (A Descriptive Study at the English Education Study Program of Universitas Bengkulu) Supervisor : Dr. Wisma Yunita, M.Pd. Co-Supervisor : Zahrida, S.S. M.Hum. The objectives of this research were to find out students‟ English competence in the TOEFL structure and written expression section, the highest percentage of the students‟ mistakes in the Structure and Written Expression section and factors that influencing the students‟ difficulties in responding to the Structure and Written Expression section in the TOEFL. This research involved all of the 6th semester students of the English Education Study Program of Universitas Bengkulu who had passed all structure courses. The data were taken from a TOEFL test and an interview. The result shows that majority of the students‟ English competence was poor. More than half of the students (56%) were placed in poor category. The result also reveals the most difficult topic in grammar section was redundancy. This topic has the highest incorrect answer, amounting to 66%. There were two factors that affected the students‟ performance in redundancy, ambiguity and the interference of first language. In contrast, gerund and infinitives were the easiest topic in grammar section. Simple rules and the most common expression were contributed to the students‟ performance in gerund and infinitives. In responding to structure and written expression section there were four factors that influenced students‟ difficulties, poor understanding of grammar, less focus, lack of practice and limited vocabulary.
