SEM analysis confirmed the spherical and elliptical shapes of the particles. Three different zinc peaks were observed via EDX at energies of 1, 8.7, and 9.8 keV, together with a single oxygen peak at 0.5 keV. XRD analysis identified ZnO NPs as having a hexagonal wurtzite structure with a particle size that decreased from 24.39 to 18.77 nm, and with an increasing surface area (BET) from 4.003 to 6.032 m2/g for the ZnO (without extract) and green ZnO NPs, respectively. FTIR analysis confirmed the groups of molecules that were accountable for stabilizing and minimizing the ZnO NPs, which was apparent at 3400 cm. Using UV–Vis spectroscopy, the band g...

Research paper thumbnail of Adsorption performance and Kinetics study of Pb(II) by RuO2–ZnO nanocomposite: Construction and Recyclability

X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDS), pore and surface area characteristics (BET), and Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) results showed the formation of Ru-doped ZnO with new RuO 2 rutile phase. The removal kinetics process was fitted with the pseudo-second-order model. Nevertheless, the adsorption rate is possibly governed by the Pb(II) ions intra-particular diffusion. The average diameter of the nanocomposite was about 32 nm. The fabricated nanopowders have a rapid adsorption equilibrium time of 40 min and excellent competence for Pb(II) ion elimination (184.5 mg g −1 ).

Arabate salts of (Na, K, Ca and Mg) were prepared using arabic acid by adding respective cations. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) proved successful production of arabic acid and arabate salts. pH values were 2.6, 6.9, 6.5, 4.9, 4.5 for arabic acid, Na, K, Ca and Mg arabate salts respectively. Intrinsic viscosities of arabic acid, Na, K, Ca and Mg arabate salts in 1M NaCl were determined. The measured viscosities were 8.53, 2.47, 0.11, 0.05 and 1.24 ml g -1 for arabic acid, Na, K, Ca and Mg arabate salts respectively and 10.82, 14.33, 12.9, 10.12 and 9.38 ml g -1 for arabic acid, Na, K, Ca and Mg arabate salts respectively in 0.5M NaCl where they were 18.47, 45.82, 30.72, 11.76 and 10.83 ml g -1 for arabic acid, Na, K, Ca and Mg arabate salts respectively in deionized water. The equivalent conductivities of the arabic acid and arabate sa...

Research paper thumbnail of Physicochemical and photocatalytic performance of the synthesized RuO2-ZnO photo-composite in the presence of pectinose solution

Characterization of the phase structure, morphology, and elemental composition confirms that the synthesized RuO2-ZnOcomposite has a hexagonal wurtzite-type structure of the ZnO phase with three extra peaks related to the formation of the RuO2 rutile phase, delineating at the (110), (101) and (211) crystal planes. The SEM and TEM result of RuO2-ZnO at Tc = 700 °C has clearly revealed the formation of nanorods shaped. The hysteresis loop RuO2-ZnO was type H3 and in the range of 0.05 – 1.0 relative pressure which is representative of a mesoporous nanomaterial. The photocatalytic performance of the prepared photo- composite is evaluated for indigo carmine dye degradation under visible light. The photodegradation of the dye follows first-order kinetics and the rate constant is estimated to be 36.38 × 10−3 m...
