I am planning to place here a free pdf (on my own cost) asap, as the book was sold out by the publisher, without offering me to buy some of the leftovers of the first - and last - edition for the ridiculous price of 19.95 Euro for which they sold it at a loss (not really, because they had already been compensated fully by the editing institution).

According to Herodotos (5.117-121), in 497/6 BCE in the course of the Ionian Revolt, the freedom-loving Karians fought the invading Persian army three times. After two devastating defeats in open battles in the northern Marsyas/Çine Çay valley, a third nighttime ambush was victorious and resulted in the total annihilation of the Persians, leading to a stalemate which lasted until 494 BCE. The place of this battle is contested to date. As it is argued here, it is neither on the road at Pedasa/Gökçeler near Halikarnassos, nor at Pidasa-on-Grion near today's Danişment, but at Pedasos/Pedason on the 'Karian Highway' north of Atriya-Idrias-Stratonikeia. The site is once mentioned by Strabo (13.1.59 [611]) as a 'very little city' (polychnion). It is likely to be identified with today's Börükçü, where rescue excavations in an open lignite mining area have revealed a small settlement dating from Geometric until the early Byzantine Period (8th century BCE-7th century CE). Consequently the wording in Herodotos' Histories 5.121 τὴν ἐν Πηδάσωι ὁδόν, first conjectured by the French printer and philologist Henri Estienne (Henricus Stephanus, ca. 1530-1598 CE) in his 1570 edition of Herodotos' Histories, is to be preferred to all later alternative readings. Note also the here argued emendation of Thucydides 3.19.2 Σανδίου λόφου ('Sandios Hill') to <Ὑβ>ανδίου λόφου ('Hybandios Hill'), named after the former island of Hybanda at the Maiandros mouth, as well as reconstructing the entry in ATL I, 136, no. 10.III.29 (= IG I 3 267.III.29) not as Ναχσία παρὰ Μ[υδ](όνα), 'Naxia-at-Mydon', but as Ναχσία παρὰ Μ[υō](ντα), 'Naxia-at-Myous'.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> update of Feb 29, 2024:
A legal masterpiece by Ralph Wilde on behalf of Palestine:
– None of Israel’s actions past or current in the Palestinian territories are legitimate under international law, the law of resistance, the law of occupation, and other international legal conventions.
– Palestine was the natural and legal successor state to the British Mandate Palestine UNDER BRITISH LAW and should have transitioned to full statehood, like all other British “Class A” colonial territories upon the collapse of the British empire.
– the Balfour declaration established ‘israel’ EX VIRES, bypassing British Law and bypassing the legal transition of THE ENTIRETY of mandate Palestine to full statehood.
– The UN recognition of ‘israel’ in 1948 was illegal under international law.
– the establishment of Palestine as a full state must occur immediately, regardless of ‘Israel’s ‘ security concerns in order to remain consistent with international law.
– ‘israel’ has no legitimate security concerns or rights in mandate Palestine, under international law.
– the Palestinians have the right to violent resistance to Israeli occupation, none of which can be classified as terrorist actions. ‘israel’ has no right of retaliation as an illegitimate entity.
– the defense of ‘israel’s’ ‘right to self defense’ offered by the UK, US and Zambia are essentially an invitation to bypass international law and create a special set of laws for ‘israel’… In effect delegitimizing the fundamental basis of modern international legal framework.
… And much more.
The highlight of the argument, from my point of view, was that even under the British Law of Mandate Palestine, the succession of Palestine to full statehood was expected, and the creation of Israel was a violation of established British Law regarding “Class A British Territories”.

"I have sometimes been criticised for describing the society being ushered in since March 2020 as "fascist". That word has become so misunderstood and misapplied, associated with superficial historical detail rather than with underlying essence, that some argue it is not an appropriate label for what we are experiencing today. So it has been reassuring to read "The Road to Fascism: For a Critique of the Global Biosecurity State" by Simon Elmer of Architects for Social Housing, which, as the title suggests, comes to similar conclusions to those I reach in "Fascism Rebranded: Exposing the Great Reset" . The author insists: "We are now a fascist society in everything but name, and ready to form a properly fascist state under the new forms of sovereign authority that rule over the Global Biosecurity State"."

This includes nano metamaterial technologies that are contaminating vaccinations, that are not legal or lawful, and that breach a number of international and domestic laws.
Judge Nolan at Newcastle Crown Court stated that “The 5G risk must be debated” and that “This is a democracy and the public have a right to know”.
The evidence I presented to the court defeated the attempt by the local authorities and actors in the British establishment to silence me from providing the published scientific evidence on the risks posed to the public and environment from the 5G urban radar network and its ultimate purpose.
The failed court action taken by the local authority created a publicity storm that helped to highlight the actual risks from the 5G deployment across the world, as well as the total lack of care taken by regulators allowing this 5G deployment."

This is a summarizing article by Mark Keenan related to a book of the same author, where he shows the following facts:
- comprehensive evidence of the Covid-19 hoax;
- technical analysis and evidence showing that a Covid-19 virus causing disease simply does not exist (no evidence Covid-19 exists – never been isolated, ever);
- the pandemic situation was planned with a purpose;
- the Covid-19 death numbers are fraudulent;
- flawed modelling and false case numbers were used to justify world lockdown;
- the fraudulent Covid-19 PCR test created false case numbers;
- and that virology took a wrong turn – pathogenic viruses causing disease do not exist.
"The book 'No Worries No Virus' is a structured summary of my research on the Covid-19 situation, and of the agenda behind the Covid hoax. The book was first published in 2021 under the title Transcending the Covid-19 Deception. In this book I look ‘behind the curtain’ at the corporate, media, and financial players behind the hoax. Key historical events are detailed to provide a bigger picture of what it all means."

Nazism is a form of imperialism. In my decades-long study of billionaires and of imperialism, I've never yet come across a billionaire anywhere who has been antiimperialist. Some are conservative, and some are liberal, but all of them have been proimperialist. Britain's Guardian newspaper, which used to be progressive (something that no billionaire actually is), got taken over (such as is shown in this), around a decade ago, by liberal billionaires-by Democratic Party U.S. billionaires, and by Labour Party UK billionaires-and it even goes so far as to publish (as being a propaganda-asset of the liberal billionaires who now control it) on 6 July 2018, an article about the world's most famous imperialist, the American billionaire George Soros, alleging him to advocate that the "American empire, and the alienations of contemporary capitalism would be things of the past." What a bad joke that is. The major difference between German imperialism of the 1930s (Nazism) and American imperialism after WW II, has been that the latter displays vastly more sophisticated propaganda-techniques, and is consequently far more hypocritical, not nearly so bold and forthright in the propaganda for its many aggressions ('for democracy and human rights') as Hitler's Nazi Party (which openly despised both) was. Before this takeover by billionaires occurred, that newspaper published on 28 March 2007 an importantly informative and honest op-ed by Bruni de la Motte, "East Germany did face up to its Nazi past: The west's demonisation of communism has led to a distortion of history", which would hardly be publishable anywhere in the U.S.-and-allied sphere today.

Don’t look up lest you could see what nobody wants you to see – namely the Big-Big Lie. As time goes on and Agenda 2030, alias The WEF’s Great Reset progresses, the asteroid approaching Mother Earth is ever moving closer, is an ever greater risk for the destruction of our planet. Its ever more obvious. And we all feel it – we feel the heat of the approaching
meteor.
Yet, we are afraid to look up. We are even told there is a comet approaching that could destroy us all. We are scared, but we don’t look up to see the ever-growing enormity.
Because if we would, we would have to take measures to stop the meteor from hitting our planet. It would “disturb” our comfort; we would have to stand up, we would have to act in unison to muster the strength to bring about a change in the direction of the asteroid, to save our planet.
We seem to be scared out of our minds – so much so, that we’d prefer the ostrich-behavior, looking down, even sticking our heads in the sand – not to see the obvious. Literally, the destruction of our lives. The longer we wait the lesser our chances to deviate the “colossal monster” approaching us. We know it, deep down, our innermost intuition tells
us that there is something mighty wrong with what is approaching.
Doing nothing is like committing suicide. Because the warning signals have been there and here and everywhere – for years, not just since January 2020, when the meteor was first sighted and officially registered.
Cognitive dissonance and FEAR, yes, repeated FEAR, is their greatest instrument of intimidation.
They don’t hide the comet. But it’s up to us to look up and see it, to do whatever it takes to swerving its trajectory away from our Mother Earth. We can do it – we can still do it.
This call for attention, for looking up, is not meant to spread more fear. Quite the contrary.
By seeing your enemy, by looking him in the eye, you gain strength and lose fear. By doing this collectively, as a solidarity unit of humans – facing the lies and stepping finally away from the lies that have swallowed our lives for decades, for centuries, probably for at least the last 2000 years – then we will be able to breathe fresh air. New Energy.

Kybebo, Not Kybebos!
On New Epigraphical and Archaeological Finds from the Milesian Colony of Amisos (today’s Samsun) on the Black Sea, and Their Meaning for the Origin and Spread of the Cult of Kybebo-Kybebe-Kybele in Asia Minor and Beyond.
With an Appendix on the Name and Origin of Herodotos’ Mother, and His Own Name.
However, please note this urgent anouncement:
https://www.globalresearch.ca/5870003-2/5870003!!
appears in: A. Robu – I. Birzescu (eds.), Obitary for Alexandru Avram, Il Mar Nero XI, 2021-2022
This article aims at re-evaluating new inscriptional finds from Samsun Kurupelit-Atakum, the ancient Milesian colony of Amisos on the central southern coast of the Black Sea, founded around 560 BCE. The materials are graffiti on imported or locally produced drinking vessels, found in a sacrificial deposit (bothros) during rescue excavations. Unfortunately neither the deposit, nor a nearby temple-like building were completely excavated. The deposit also included terracotta figurines of seated and standing younger and elder women and standing young men. The finds can by their palaeography and style be dated between the last quarter of the 6th, and the second quarter of the 5th century BCE (ca. 520-460 BCE). Four of the graffiti address a goddess whose name is according to the first editors Kybebos and identified with East Ionian, Greek Kybele. The first editors are followed now by several scholars who dealt with the impact of these finds on the history of Kybele’s cult.
However, a critical review of the graffiti, including those seven which were not edited in the editio princeps, but only published in a photo, reveals that all graffiti are written in the Milesian alphabet and East Ionic dialect. It turns out that the feminine theonym is not an o-stem Kybebos (Κύβηβος), but an -οι-/-οy-stem Kybebo (Κυβηβώ). The feminine nominative ending -ώ is typical in Aiolic and East Ionic Greek dialects. One of the graffiti shows a name of this class, Δρυμώ. Another famous example represents Λητώ, the mother of Apollo and Artemis. Further, it turns out that the mother of the historian Herodotos held such a name (Δρυώ or Ῥοιώ). In an appendix it is argued that this is an indication that she was of Ionian origin, likely from Samos, the island of Hera (in psilotic East Ionic Ere), and she thus named the son she had with her Karian husband Lyxes Herodotos (in psilotic East Ionic Erodotos), ‘gift of Hera’.
In a final two-part section is discussed the impact of the new readings on our understanding of Ionian-Greek Kybele. First is analysed the dissemination of her cult in Miletos and her colonies, as well as in East Ionia. The epithet Meter, preserved in one of the graffiti from Amisos, lets us compare Meter Kybebo with Meter Theon, the ‘Mother of the gods’, another name for Kybele. Besides, the iconography of Kybele in Archaic Milesian art is investigated. It can be demonstrated that Kybebo/Kybele is often depicted as ‘Mistress of animals’, a feature she shares with Artemis and Aphrodite, but also with Phrygian Matar Kubeleya. Finally, the complicated interrelations between Meter Kybebo/Kybele, Kubaba of northern Syrian Karkemiš, Phrygian Matar Kubeleya, and Lydian Kuvav-/Kuwaw- are analysed. It is argued for Meter Kybebo/Kybele as a syncretistic goddess uniting different strands which go finally back to Late Bronze age Kubaba of Karkemiš and a Westanatolian Mountain and Mother goddess (Mater teija/Meter Theon). The strongest influence on Ionian Meter Kybebo/Kybele was Phrygian Matar Kubeleya since at least the Late Geometric period regarding naming (Kybeleya-Kybele), ecstatic rituals, self-castrated beggar priests (Kybebos-Kombabos-Galloi), and iconography (rock-cut façades compared to naiskos-reliefs). Recent attempts to strictly separate Kubaba and Lydian Kuvav-/Kuwaw-/Kybebe on one side, from Prygian Matar Kubeleya and Greek Kybebo/Kybele on the other are rejected.

Ancient myths not only served the need to explain rituals, the "mythicoritual nexus" as it was once called by Christina Sourvinou-Inwood; one of the most important aims of their creation, their mythopoea or mythopoiesis, was to define a common identity and to legitimate the community's claim of land ownership, and freedom. The Early Iron Age Greek migrants to western Asia Minor were especially 'productive' in creating colonial charter myths of gods and heroes.

Abstract
During regular excavations in 2011 in the Apollo Delphinios sanctuary of Miletos, an ostracon inscribed in Phoenician characters was unearthed in a late Hellenistic layer. In spite of the difficulties due to its state of preservation, the anthroponyms that are read or partially restituted on it belong to the eastern Phoenician onomastics. The first name of the four inscribed on it, which could also be that of the most high-ranking character in the order of their mention, [ʿAbd]ʾalonīm, is the same as that of the Phoenician king installed by Alexander on the throne of Sidon in 332 BCE. This is further suggested by the possible title [h]gm, 'majesty', directly following the name. However the identity of the ʿAbdʾalonīm in this ostracon may be, this discovery at Miletos is a significant indication for the permanent presence or transit of Phoenicians in Ionia during Persian rule, when the city was part of the satrapy of Karia, or shortly after its liberation by Alexander the Great in 334/333 BCE.

Thales of Miletos should be regarded, like his fellow 'Seven Sages' of Greece, first as a politician-statesman and only second as the founder of the Milesian school of philosophy. Around 600 BCE, oligarchic or tyrannical Greek city states confronted frequent staseis, political insurrections, in reaction to abuses by ruling elites. Wise men like Solon in Athens or Pittakos in Mytilene stepped in with reforms aimed at reducing social disparities and creating a politically active middle class. Thales and his student Anaximander promoted a cosmology aligned with these legislative reforms. Isonomia (equal rights), symmetry and equilibrium applied to nature, with the earth as the motionless center of the kosmos. Thales applied natural philosophy to the new city plan of Miletos (ca. 575–550 BCE), fitting houses and temples into a street grid oriented in accordance with the sun and winds. He enlarged the agora as the symbolic heart of the city state, and gave his co-citizens the advice " adorn yourself by taking a magistracy ". When the Persians pressed the Ionian cities in 546 BCE, Thales recommended that they unite into a federal state, with Teos as capital. When Thales died, he was buried in the agora of Miletos and venerated as a heroic city-founder. A few years later, his nephew and most influential pupil Anaximander was most likely assassinated in the Milesian Black Sea colony Apollonie Pontike when trying to invent a similar kind of moderate democracy in a colonial oligarchic, old-fashioned society, after he had fled the conquest of the Ionian city states by monarchic Persia.

Conclusion and Outlook: This short overview reveals the extremely negative impact of the Persi... more Conclusion and Outlook:
This short overview reveals the extremely negative impact of the Persian War on Miletos, the cultural and commercial center of East Greece in the sixth century BC, who had been pushed into the war by the tyrants Aristagoras and Histiaios. To cite Adelaide Dunham in her ground-breaking book on the history of Miletos of 1915: “with her pre-eminence in commerce had vanished her pre-eminence in mental pursuits.” It also provides evidence for the historicity of the “Oath of Plataia” and the “Oath of the Ionians,” not to restore the sanctuaries destroyed by the Persians in “barbarian impiety” during the war and following occupation of 494 to 478 BCE. Actually, this impiety had been—according to the Greek sources—a declared revenge of Dareios as well as Xerxes for the impiety committed by the Ionians under the leadership of the Milesian tyrant Aristagoras, and the allied Athenians and Eretrians, when conquering Sardis in 499 and burning the sanctuary of Lydian Kybebe/Kybele. However, it is important to note that the responding Persian destruction was selective and partial: Delos was spared out by Dareios, the oracle of Apollo of Abai in Kalapodi was plundered and destroyed by Xerxes’ troops, but several months later consulted about the outcome of his campaign in Greece, the acropolis of Athens was conquered and burnt, but Xerxes ordered sacrifices to Athena, and the oracle sanctuary in Didyma seems to have been plundered by Xerxes, and deprived of its personnel, without harming the temple.
And furthermore: not all sanctuaries destroyed were left in ruins by the Greeks. Actually, the perpetuation of destruction became the exception, especially, when the sanctuaries were of particular interest for the liberated Greek city states in the process of their reconstitution. In these cases a compromise was made: the best documented Milesian example is the Delphinion, housing the Molpon-prytaneion, the seat of the oligarchic government. It was rebuilt immediately after 478 BCE as an exact copy of the late-archaic sanctuary, ostentatiously using spolia in the outer walls as reminder of its destruction. This situation can be compared with the Themistoklean north wall of the Athenian acropolis, where architectural members of the archaic Parthenon as well as the old Athena temple were integrated, easily recognisable as such from the agora, while the destroyed cult buildings were pointedly kept in a state of ruin until Perikles. Invisible behind these walls, the leftovers of the “headless and dismembered statues destroyed by the Persians” were buried, to prevent the Athenians from this “distressing and nightmarish scene” (M. Korres).
The presented evidence also clarifies that Miletos, as with the rest of Ionia, was able to recover from the “big catastrophe” of 494 and the years of occupation (494-478 BCE) early on, re-establishing herself as a (modest) replica or “copy” of the former state. The clearest signifier is the completion of the archaic insula-street grid on a reduced scale. Another indicator for “a certain amount of prosperity” is that Miletos “is an exception to the almost universal rule that the Ionian cities ceased to issue coins during the fifth century” (A. Dunham).
The recovery is further indicated by its relatively high payments of 10 talents of annual tribute to the Delian-Attic League from the late 450’s down to 415/4 BCE. Moreover, in the summer of 424, during the “Archidamian War,” Miletos delivered the substantial number of 10 triremes and 2,000 hoplites to help Athens capture Kythera and Skandeia (Thucydides 4.53-54). The furbishing of manned war ships by the members was obligatory in the early years of the league, and it reduced the phoros payments accordingly. Likewise, the import of Attic painted pottery restarts already in the second quarter of the fifth century. All this speaks against the often repeated, but from the very outset, outdated opinion of the archaeologist J. M. Cook of 1961 that life in Miletos and Ionia declined severely starting with the Persian occupation till the end of the 5th century, forming “the Dark Age of Ionia.” This theory held a “common level of degradation” and “economic paralysis” which cannot be sustained in the face of historical and archaeological scrutiny. Cook went even so far as to misinterpret Thucydides’ phrase ἀτειχίστου οὔσης τῆς Ἰωνίας (3.33.2) in the sense that it “meant not merely that the fortifications were in disrepair, but that the Ionians were not living in regular urban conditions,” but “in the status of […] villages.”
The average amount of the Milesian phoros of 10 talents equaled the exuberant annual budget available to the architect Mnesikles to develop the very “landscape” of the Athenian acropolis. The splendor of Periklean Athens, including the Odeion, the Parthenon, the statue of Athena Parthenos, the Propylaia, and the Erechtheion, would have probably been impossible without the payments of the members of the Attic-Delian League. At every penteteric Great Panathenaia from 455/4, when the treasury had been transferred to Athens, onwards, every allied city had to sacrifice a cow and dedicate a panoply to Athena. During the annual Great Dionysia of Athens, they had to present their quota in silver coins, ca. 400 talents in total, in the procession, to deliver it in the theatre of Dionysos, where 1/60, the aparchai, “first fruits,” were symbolically subtracted for the treasure of Athena to be stored in the Parthenon.
However, it goes without saying that the cost the allies and Athens had to cover in the Peloponnesian War, were much higher, be it in money and resources, be it in human lives. This should be a warning to the warmongers of NATO and EU, to invest in peaceful culture, not in weapons!

That word has become so misunderstood and misapplied, associated with superficial historical detail rather than with underlying essence, that some argue it is not an appropriate label for what we are experiencing today. So it has been reassuring to read "The Road to Fascism: For a Critique of the Global Biosecurity State" by Simon Elmer of Architects for Social Housing, which, as the title suggests, comes to similar conclusions to those I reach in "Fascism Rebranded: Exposing the Great Reset" . - comprehensive evidence of the Covid-19 hoax;
- technical analysis and evidence showing that a Covid-19 virus causing disease simply does not exist (no evidence Covid-19 exists – never been isolated, ever);
- the pandemic situation was planned with a purpose;
- the Covid-19 death numbers are fraudulent;
- flawed modelling and false case numbers were used to justify world lockdown;
- the fraudulent Covid-19 PCR test created false case numbers;
- and that virology took a wrong turn – pathogenic viruses causing disease do not exist.

Miletos of the Early Classical period by virtue of its conscious re-presentation of its Archaic p... more Miletos of the Early Classical period by virtue of its conscious re-presentation of its Archaic past, qualifies for an ideal archaeological test case to validate the actual historicity of an important passus of the ‘Oath of Plataia’ resp. ‘Oath of the Ionians’. It states that the Greeks should not restore the sanctuaries destroyed in a “barbarian impiety” (βαρβάρων ἀσεβείας) by the Persians as a reminder. The oath has been suspected of being a forgery since Theopompos of Chios (second half of the fourth century B.C.), just like the ‘Peace of Kallias’.
According to the evidence from Miletos which will be presented more fully elsewhere, the ‘Oath of the Ionians’ has to be considered historical. However, certain sanctuaries of crucial importance for the re-established city states of Ionia could be immediately reconstructed, like for example the Delphinion with its Molpon-prytaneion. A distinctive feature of the reconstruction of Miletos was the repair and re-presentation of Archaic and likely also Severe Style sculpture, as was demonstrated above. Transforming Miletos into a museum of her glorious past was a necessary step to recover from the catastrophic outcome of the Persian Wars. This ‘conservatism’ which is most evident in the restoration of the Late Archaic oligarchic constitution in 478, helped building up and strengthening Miletos’ new identity within the frame of the Delian-Attic League. While Miletos’ political and commercial power had faded, her mythical mother-city, Athens was going to take over the lead in all of Greece.
Phrynichos likely made the point in his tragedy Μιλήτου ἅλωσις, (The “Conquest of Miletos”) of 493/2 B.C.: πάλαι ποτ’ ἦσαν ἄλκιμοι Μιλήσιοι (“Once upon a time the Milesians were brave”).

Through a two-part approach, this article sheds new light on the history of Lake Bafa (modern Bafa Gölü in western Turkey) and the surrounding regions of northwestern Karia and southern Ionia during the last millennia from historical, geoarchaeological, and palynological perspectives. One focus lies on the evaluation of literary, epigraphic, numismatic, and archaeological testimonia to find out how the immigrant Greeks and indigenous Karians created charter myths to sanction their land ownership, e.g. by renaming places and landmarks and locating heroes like Latmos, Endymion and Phthir within the landscape. Another key aspect is the evolution of Lake Bafa and its environs. The spatio-temporal changes of this residual lake formed from the former marine ‘Latmian Gulf’ (Ancient Greek: Latmikos Kolpos) are comprehensively reconstructed, based on the synopsis of evidence from the natural sciences and humanities. Its evolution was caused and controlled by the progradation of the Maeander delta (Turkish: Büyük Menderes), which had profound consequences for the rise and decline of several ancient seaport cities, like Myous, Priene, Latmos-Herakleia and Miletos. Finally, the lake sediments are displayed as an excellent geo-bio-archive which helps to reconstruct the vegetation history of the area. The results contribute to a ‘human geography’ resp. ‘anthropogeography’ of the lower Maeander River region.

Paper delivered at the conference:
From Hippias to Kallias. Greek Art from 527 to 449 B.C.
Acropolis Museum, Athens, May 19-20, 2017
The talk addresses different issues concerning the dynamic history of Miletos, the “Ornament of Ionia” (Herodotus 5.28), in the course of the Persian Wars and their outcome. Being the leading cultural and military power behind the Ionian revolt against the Persia of Dareios I ‘the Great’ in 499 BCE, the city was destroyed after a dramatic sea and land battle in 494. 15 years of occupation ended 478, after the victory of the united Greeks over Dareios’ follower Xerxes I at Plataia, Salamis, and Mykale Mountain. Miletos became early on a member of the Delian Attic League, but never again gained back its prominent position. Instead, her mythical mother city Athens, leader of the league, otherwise labeled “the Athenians and the allies” (οἱ Ἀθηναῖοι καὶ οἱ σύμμαχοι), rose to the ruling power of Greece, interfering even into the inner policies of Miletos when implementing the ‘power tool’ of democracy in the former oligarchic city ca. 445. By that time, Athens had settled relations with Persia, whose new Great king Artaxerxes I had accepted the autonomy of the Greek cities of Asia Minor in the ‘Peace of Kallias’ (between 465 and 449/48 BCE).
The first 50 years of the 5th century BCE are perhaps the most eventful in Miletos’ long history. The mega city of 499 was first destroyed, and then built anew. It turns out that there are clear continuities as well as breaks, concerning town planning, housing, cults and art production at the transition from the Archaic to the Classical Age. While the attempt to restore and modernise vital parts of the Archaic infrastructure is obvious, the city became also a museum of her glorious past and its destruction: part of her most time-honoured sancturies were left in ruins, while others were rebuilt by ostentatiously using spolia and ‘re-presenting’ Archaic monuments. It is evident that Early Classical Miletos, a ‘copy’ of Late Archaic Miletos, qualifies for an ideal archaeological test case to proof the historicity of an important passus of the ‘Oath of Plataia’ resp. ‘Oath of the Ionians’ (Isocrates 4.155 f.; Lycurgus, Leokrates 81; Diodorus 11.29.3; Pausanias 10.35.2), not to restore the sanctuaries destroyed by the Persians. This oath has been suspected a forgery since Theopompus (FGrHist 115 F 153).

The Panionion, devoted to Poseidon Helikonios, served as meeting point for the Ionian city league in Asia Minor. Here Homer for the first time performed his epics in front of a larger audience ca. 700 BCE. And here the Ionians took the decision to fight for their liberty against the Persians in the very beginning of the 5th cent. B.C. It will be demonstrated by analysing the mythological, literary, epigraphical and archaeological evidence that the new site on the mountain top, which bears an impressive Late Archaic temple in Ionic style, cannot be identified with the ancient city of Melia and the Archaic Panionion. This assumption is based on several misunderstandings. Instead, by reconstructing the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age settlement history and historical topography of southern Ionia as a whole and the Mykale region in particular, the site can be identified with the Boeotian foundation Mykalessos and its temple of Zeus Mykaleus. It was founded by the hero Perseus, who also beheaded Gorgo here. In the contrary, the Panionion was always located at the well known site near the modern Turkish beach resort Güzelçamlı, where it was first discovered by Theodor Wiegand in 1898. The settlement on nearby Kale Tepe is to be identified with the Ionian foundation Melia, destroyed by the other league members ca. 700 BCE.

Abstract:
Geoarchaeology in the City of Thales. Palaeogeography and its Impact on the Settlement History of Miletos in Western Turkey
Over the past six millennia, the famous ancient Greek harbor city of Miletos and its environs at the western coast of modern Turkey have experienced major changes in palaeogeography, related to (a) the progradation of the Maeander delta (today’s Büyük Menderes ), (b) coastal dynamics such as littoral accumulation and fluctuations of sea level during the Holocene, (c) denudation processes from the adjacent slopes south of the city, and (d) the permanent impact of humans on the ecosystem since Late Neolithic times (end of 4th millennium BCE).
Our multidisciplinary research project, Geoarchaeology in the City of Thales. Palaeogeography and its Impact on the Settlement History of Miletos in today’s Western Turkey, aims at bringing together the results of historical, archaeological, geoarchaeological as well as geophysical research of the last 25 years for a better understanding of the settlement history of this Greek harbor town. Why was Miletos such an important center of commercial and cultural exchange since Early Bronze Age? Why could it develop into the most active of all Greek colonial powers in Archaic times (7th/6th centuries BCE), founding settlements from Egypt to the Crimea? And finally: How to understand the evolution of such persons as Thales or Anaximander, founders not only of the Milesian School of philosophy, but finally, of modern western, European philosophy and scientific thought?
Most recent research concentrated on completing our data for (a) a diachronic reconstructing of the ever changing shore lines of the Milesian peninsula, (b) the impact of landscape change on the town planning, first of all on the invention of the orthogonal insula-street-grid in the 6th century BCE, and (c) the development of the up to six harbors as basis of Miletos’ commercial power.

The Panonion-sanctuary on the central west coast of Asia Minor has attracted the attention of man... more The Panonion-sanctuary on the central west coast of Asia Minor has attracted the attention of many scholars in the last 100 years and still does. One of the reasons is that the Panionion as well as the Ionians feasting during the Panionia, defined Greekness in the presence of the non-Greek, barbarian, other. The Panionion was placed at the edge of the Greek world, so to speak, facing the neighbouring indigenous peoples of the Karians and Lydians. It is now a common view in Ancient history that the ethnogenesis of the Ionian Greeks, as well as that of the Aeolians and Dorians, took place in Asia Minor only in Geometric times. The settlers arriving in Asia Minor in Protogeometric times were of diverse origin instead. The romantic view of an Ionian ethnos migrating already in the 11 th /10 th century BCE from Achaea or Athens has to be abandoned. Also, recent studies of the history of the Homeric epics and their earliest performance come to the conclusion that Iliad and Odyssey form part of the creation of the Greek. The poet Homer, or whatever his real name was, entered the stages not only in some of the cities of Ionia, but first of all during the common gatherings in the Panionion. This new theory offers reason enough to turn our look towards this sanctuary. But there is also another one: it has been claimed recently that a temple which has been found on top of the Mykale Mountains, today's Dilek Dağları in western Turkey, north of the Maeander-valley and opposite the Greek island of Samos, is the Archaic Panionion. However, this hypothesis cannot stand a critical review. Instead, an alternative identification as temple of Zeus Mykaleus is offered. According to a myth created by the Boeotian-'Ionian' Greeks migrating in the Mykale Mountains, it had been built by the hero Perseus, after he had decapitated Gorgo Medousa and escaped her sisters, a classical charter myth.

The drone assassination in Iraq of Iranian Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani evokes memory of the assassination of Austrian Archduke Ferdinand in June 1914, which led to World War I. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was quick to warn of “severe revenge.” That Iran will retaliate at a time and place of its choosing is a near certainty. And escalation into World War III is no longer just a remote possibility, particularly given the multitude of vulnerable targets offered by our large military footprint in the region and in nearby waters.

The popular socialist leader of Britain’s Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, could be on the verge of becoming prime minister of the United Kingdom. And the mere possibility is terrifying British intelligence services and the U.S. government.
Since Corbyn was elected to the head of the Labour Party in 2015, in a landslide victory after running on a staunch leftist and anti-war platform, the corporate media has waged a relentless campaign to demonize and delegitimize him.

Back in the early 1960s, us kids could not wait to get home from school to catch another TV episode of The Adventures of Superman. Back then TV was all black and white, and so was our view on the world. I’ll never forget the intro to the show and the part that told of the strange visitor from another planet who “fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way.” As I sit here typing this story, only Superman can save the modern Daily Planet publisher Julian Assange.

A federal court ruling last Tuesday dismissing a Democratic National Committee (DNC) civil suit against Julian Assange “with prejudice” was a devastating indictment of the US ruling elite’s campaign to destroy the WikiLeaks founder. It exposed as a fraud the entire “Russiagate” conspiracy theory peddled by the Democratic Party, the corporate media and the intelligence agencies for the past three years.
The decision, by Judge John Koeltl of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, rejected the smears that Assange “colluded” with Russia. It upheld his status as a journalist and publisher and dismissed claims that WikiLeaks’ 2016 publication of leaked emails from the DNC was “illegal.”

In a ruling published late Tuesday, Judge John Koeltl of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York delivered a devastating blow to the US-led conspiracy against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
In his ruling, Judge Koeltl, a Bill Clinton nominee and former assistant special prosecutor for the Watergate Special Prosecution Force, dismissed “with prejudice” a civil lawsuit filed in April 2018 by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) alleging WikiLeaks was civilly liable for conspiring with the Russian government to steal DNC emails and data and leak them to the public.
Jennifer Robinson, a leading lawyer for Assange, and other WikiLeaks attorneys welcomed the ruling as “an important win for free speech.”
