What would life on Earth be like, if we knew how to harness the combined power of (1) systems knowledge, (2) our intuitive minds, and (3) our electronic communication and knowledge technologies?

What would it take to design a global-scale game design process that would mobilize the above-mentioned resources for speeding evolutionary learning,
and trigger our desire to devote significant time/energy to this endeavor?

What would happen if we decided to let our intuition play with the two questions above for a while, during the next five days?

Neither of these questions can be answered by any of us, but together we certainly have a better chance at finding some answers, or at least, some better questions. The easiest one to respond to is the last question concerning the next few days here. Let's start with that one.

The following couple of pages are just some grist for your mill. You can play even if you won't have time to read them while you are here.

They are ready to ask and see into powerful questions. For instance:

How can a group of individual intelligences become truly collective intelligence? How can they escape into a more complex and capable collective intelligence (CI) without sacrificing their autonomy?"

The newest of those ways—"evolutionary leadership" communities of practice—is also one of the oldest. Communities of people who learn together from engaging in shared inquiries into issues of their shared practice is as old as humanity itself. It is just that now we are becoming conscious of it."

Why is this important? Because, the choice is between joining together to create a wisdom society or regressing into an extinct society. The complex, intertwining local and global crises will outpace our 'response-ability' if we don't wise up individually and collectively. A human group or social system is wiser if it can think and act from a broader perspective and care for a larger whole with all of its parts. Without this expanded perspective and care our minds are caught in a maze of linear causalities, and thus we are incapable of making sense of the intricate patterns of the looming, extinction-level dangers and the corresponding evolutionary opportunities for transformation. How can we sense the essence of an historical possibility while still waiting for our wise actions to be realized? Try this: imagine our grandchildr...

Therefore, in my approach, I focus on the other key term used by team 3: "to design a series of related international events for curating the emergence of a global learning society."

Research paper thumbnail of Framework for Awakening Collective Intelligence in the Ecosystem of Commons Initiatives

Commons are sustained by “communities working together in self-governing ways in order to protect... more Commons are sustained by “communities working together in self-governing ways in order to protect resources from enclosure or to build new openly-shared resources.” (Hess, 2008) Successful self-governance in any large-scale commons needs shared knowledge and collective intelligence. Only then will it be capable to meet the combined challenges of complexity and the urgency of making wise decisions.

The larger and more complex the commons population, the more emphasized is the need for the commoners to build capacity for cultivating such faculties of their collective intelligence as collective sensing, meaning-making, planning, shared memory, and collaborative foresight.

In response to humankind’s global crises, there’s a multitude of commons-strengthening citizen initiatives at every scale, from local to global, and in every area of social life. They form an emergent ecosystem, in which they can interact, share information and grow collective capabilities.

Research paper thumbnail of Towards a Federated Framework for Self-evolving Educational Experience Design on Massive Scale (SEED-M)

If humankind is to pass its evolutionary test by meeting its global crises, (Nautilus Institute, ... more If humankind is to pass its evolutionary test by meeting its global crises, (Nautilus Institute, 2009) also referred to as the ―world problematique‖ (Meadows, 1972), it needs to grow competence in collective sensemaking, self-reflexivity, and meaning-sharing, which are essential conditions for awakening its collective intelligence and ultimately, its self-awareness and sentience.

The art and sciences of knowledge federation (KF) are pivotal enablers to accessing the lower levels of that ladder. Before we can step on rungs of collective sensemaking and self-reflexivity, KF has to help meeting the challenge of the fragmentation of knowledge relevant to the global crises. We can transcend that fragmentation only by the massive cooperation of all concerned. Given the scope of the crises, we are all concerned parties. In these conditions, for the scope of a knowledge federation project to be commensurate with the scope of the challenge, it has to transcend academia and include it in a social learning journey with mass participation.

In this paper, we propose to outline a framework for prototyping a federated, Self-evolving Educational Experience Design on Massive Scale (SEED-M). In section 2, we introduce the SEED-M distinction, and in sections 3 to 8 situate it in the context of social learning theory. Sections 9 and 10 are focused respectively, on issues of collective self-reflexivity and what it will take to prototype a SEED-M. The final; chapter is an outline of some issues for further research.
