Urvashi Rautela addresses backlash against ‘Dabidi Dibidi’ dance moves with Balakrishna: ‘I wasn’t doing anything out of ordinary’ (original) (raw)
Urvashi Rautela addressed the criticism over 'Dabidi Dibidi' dance moves.
Urvashi Rautela and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s recently released film Daaku Maharaaj made many headlines for the dance moves in the song “Dabidi Dibidi”. Some social media users have labelled “Dabidi Dibidi” choreography as “obscene”. The song features 30-year-old Urvashi and Nandumuri, 64, with choreography by Shekhar Master. Urvashi has now addressed the criticism and shared how the team absolutely didn’t anticipate this kind of reaction.
Urvashi said they thought the song would be taken positively, and that they didn’t expect people to talk about the song in this manner.
She shared that “Dabidi Dibidi” is designed for Nandamuri Balakrishna’s fans, and its lyrics are also crafted according to their mindset. “When you look at my rehearsal clips, everything went really well. It was like how we usually choreograph for any song. I was working with Master Shekhar, with whom I’ve collaborated thrice before. So it wasn’t like I was shocked or doing something completely out of the ordinary,” shared Urvashi while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter India.
The actor added that during rehearsals, everything was smooth and under control. “But honestly, everything happened so suddenly that it’s been hard to assess why people are talking about the choreography in this way. We didn’t realise it would be received like this because, during rehearsals, everything went as planned,” she added.
She shared that the way the song was received was surprising for her. “We never expected people to talk about it in this manner. As a team, we truly didn’t anticipate this reaction,” she said.

Urvashi also added in her interview that while she embraces constructive criticism, she doesn’t let it overshadow her passion for her work. The mass dance number, which incorporates some of Balakrishna’s iconic dialogues, is sung by Vagdevi and has lyrics by Kasarla Shyam, composed by S Thaman.
The much-talked-about moves in the music video of the song “Dabidi Dibidi” show Nadamuri Balakrishna hitting Urvashi’s belly button on beats, and also pulling her up by her dress. Later in the song, the 64-year-old actor is also seen hitting Urvashi on her rear.
The film Daaku Maharaaj, directed by Bobby Kolli, was released on January 12, coinciding with the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The film will also feature Bobby Deol as the antagonist, marking his Telugu debut.
