So, directing your first feature length indie film? 5 things I've learned about just that. Ready? [Mar. 21st, 2013|05:53 am]spreading the indie music love!
[Current Music |Bomb the Music Industry - Future 86]1. You need to learn to do more than just directing. Nowadays, anyone who is in anything is in marketing. Marketing requires that you present images, ideas, appease a public, and so on. For you, that translates into:a) Learn Photoshopb) Learn/follow at least a little bit of popular culturec) Learn to talk to people you do/don't knowd) Be likeable and to give people something they want, or it's over buddy!2. Marc Webb said it best in 500 Days of Summer: There is a GIANT difference between reality and expectations. And even with this information, you will always have expectations that are WRONG. You have no idea how or what you're going to be doing from one day to the next. Embrace that.3. Not everyone is on your side of the bleachers. Not everyone cares enough to even make it to the game. People you know, some of which you respect or even admire, they simply... won't care enough to help or even wish you well. Accept it, move forward, and learn to thank and appreciate those people who do. Their efforts are priceless, and so is their acquaintance/friendship.4. Have an answer for every question on Earth, but let the people you hired to do a job take the lead in situations that correspond to them. The easiest thing to do on Earth is to be a hard-ass. Anyone can be the asshole in charge barking orders and pulling rank every moment any decision needs to be made. A good director must learn when to lead, when to follow, and how to do both to the best of his/her ability.5. Don't lose faith in your work. Do the best you can, recognize when you're not doing your best and amend the situation, and push others to do the best they can. That being said, if things aren't working out, hold on to the thing that made you start working on your project.Your first feature film is a dream, albeit a difficult dream that unless you know rich people or are well connected yourself, is ludicrous and you should quit and go jump off a building; but it's a dream nonetheless. Until the last second, until you're absolutely 100% certain that it's no longer a physical possibility, unless the fat lady sings and the pigs fly and George W. wins a third term-I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH-ALWAYS keep moving forward. Through the sludge and the snow and the trail of bodies you will leave behind you. If it's still physically possible, then keep moving the fuck forward with your enthusiasm, and your fervor, and your wide eyes, and idealistic nature. Be naive and hopeful or cynical and abject, but NEVER stop fighting for your dream. That said, please help me with directing my own first feature film. Our whole team needs to make $50,000 in the next month to pull this thing off, and I know it sounds like a lot of money, but any amount can bring me closer to realizing this dream that I simply refuse to give up on.Check out our video. You'll laugh, and think, and feel like you want to help us out. I guarantee it : )www.indiegogo.com/projects/future-86Ronald BaezDir. of Future 86

Indie Music Suggestion [Jan. 28th, 2010|12:55 am]spreading the indie music love!
Good indie music suggestion, check out indie DIY collective Hippocrypt & The Metro Gnomes from Miami, Fl. Their myspace is www.myspace.com/hippocryptandthemetrognomes. They also have a pretty badass video on youtube for their song No One Else. They're pretty art influenced so if you like art, indie, DIY, etc. give 'em a listen. They're pretty decent people![](https://pics.livejournal.com/funkytoeho/pic/0000a0gy/s320x240)
