Available Document Management Systems (DMS) often lack effective functions for automatic document management. One reason is that relevant information frequently is conveyed by unstructured documents, whose content cannot be easily accessed and processed by applications. This article proposes a metadata model, the DMSML (Document Management and Sharing Markup Language), to enable and to ease unstructured document management by supporting the design of DMSs. We argue that the extensive use of this metadata language will render organizational information explicit, promoting information reuse and interoperability, in a more profitable way than what is guaranteed by proprietary DMSs. We also describe the DMSML Framework, a set of tools that we have developed in order to ease DMS design and deployment. Finally, we briefly depict the design and deployment phases of a Web-based DMS prototype based on the DMSML Framework.

We developed a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) for the analysis of Heart Failure patient that provides various outputs such as an HF severity evaluation, an HF type prediction, as well as a management interface that compares the various patient’s follow-ups. To realize these smart functions we used machine learning techniques and in this paper we compare the performance of a neural network, a support vector machine, a system with fuzzy rules genetically produced, a Classification and regression tree and its direct evolution which is the Random Forest, in analyzing our database. Best performances (intended as accuracy and less critical errors committed) in both HF severity evaluation and HF type prediction functions are obtained by using the Random Forest algorithm.

This paper reports first results of a wider study devoted to exploit the potentialities of a NLP-based approach to the analysis of a corpus of reflective writings on teaching activities. We investigate how a wide set of linguistic features allows reconstructing the linguistic profile of the texts written by the Italian teachers and predicting whether are reflective. Italiano.

The variables of time together with the role of technology, the type of governance, the training model adopted and the number of recipients, characterize the projects described in which the Ministry of Education, University and INDIRE have held various roles to support the strengthening of the teachers digital skills not only through their initial training but also during the in-service training.

Starting from the governance conditions, recognized as fundamental to an effective induction programme, one of the goals of this work is to understand how the conditions of success have been implemented in the Italian training model and, above all, how they have been characterized with respect to the design of network governance.

The results obtained, with the limits of an impressionistic representation of the various experiential paths and the multifaceted skills baggage with which the 2015/2016 teachers have faced entry into the role, allow us not only to know which families of skills the newly appointed teachers consider to be important for the teacher professional identity but also to get an unprecedented image of the teaching profession in order to better plan targeted training initiatives.

The Italian InductionProgramme for NQT includes online activities to be carried out in the E-portfoliomanaged by Indire. As part of the training monitoring with the aim to evaluate our supportand to improve instructional scaffolding to teachers, we analysed teachers’ reflectivewriting mixing a new developed framework for teachers’ reflective writing andNatural Language Processing (NLP) techniques. The need to gain greater awareness about theeducational environment of rural schools and to be accompanied to the understanding of the skills mentioned by rural teaching appointments finds in the New Qualified Teacher path (Neoassunti) an action functional to the self-assessment of personal skills and to their better representation. The Inductionpath is characterized by a model that is deeply rooted in the national and international literature.Reflection, as a view on action and a constituent part of teacher competence, allows one to become aware of his/her professional identity and to self-direct the personal evolution and transformative trajectory. This contribution checks for the presence of the preceding elements in all steps of training and analyzes the results obtained...

We first look at the ‘affordances' of video: the capacities that it adds to the toolkits of teacher educators. We then look specifically at evidence for the development of specific abilities related to the professional vision through video: capacity for reflection, noticing and other potential benefits. Later, we focus on how to analyse video so as to develop reflective practice in teachers by presenting meaningful experiences and studies. Lastly, we propose an in-depth view of the possibilities related to collaborative analysis for professional vision development paying specific attention to the more widely used and validated methodologies such as lesson-study, teaching video club, and the dialogic video cycle.

We aim at demonstrating that effective online collaboration and knowledge construction are enabled by a set of trust-related elements which are grounding elements influencing results, motivation, collaboration and cognitive overload; these elements must be accounted for to sustain the overall learning process. To this extent, we provide an investigation model – a questionnaire – to point out the relation between trust and social capital as it is perceived by VLC members of a postgraduate online course. The result of the analysis of the questionnaire is the identification of trust-related elements and indicators to be used in the setup for building a more effective, collaboration-oriented online educational environment.

Curriculum design should not be addressed to an "average student" and subsequently adapted to special subjects; instead it should be conceived so as to be for all since the very beginning of the design, taking into account the various peculiarities (special needs, gifted students, cultural differences, language differences). Fields such as the architectural design and technology design, have already fully endorsed the Universal Access principles; more recently the educational domain has also started to endorse a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) perspective. Inside this context we propose an "Instructional Design for All" model (IDAll), which moves from a comparative analysis of Gagné, Merrill and Cognitive Load Theory general models matching it with the domain of Special Needs. Within this theoretical framework we focus on how technology becomes a crucial asset for an effective a...
