FSFI is a valid and useful tool in measuring sexual function. ABSTRACT Objective: This research aimed to analyze the correlation between testosterone levels and sexual function in postmenopausal women. Materials and Methods: This research was a descriptive observational study with a case series approach conducted at Aras Kabu Health Center Outpatient Polyclinic from May to August 2022. The normality test was carried out using the Shapiro-Wilk test. If the data were not normally distributed, data would be analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. If the data were normally distributed, the data analysis would use the Pearson correlation test. Results: There was a significant relationship between Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) score with testosterone levels and duration of menopause with p<0.05. The degree of correlation found was 0.619 between testo...

In Indonesia, the prevalence of hearing loss was estimated at 16.8% in 2016. Intra-Arterial Heparin Flushing (IAHF) is an endovascular technique that uses heparin to promote reperfusion and increases Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) expression. VEGF is a polypeptide angiogenesis factor present in the nervous system, which functions as a neurotrophic and neuroprotective. Meanwhile, prestin is a protein of outer ear hair cells that shows early signs of hearing loss through increased levels in cases of ear hair cell damage. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of IAHF on prestin and VEGF levels in hearing-impaired patients. Methods: The design is experimental with Pre-Post Test One-Group Only. A total of 22 patients with hearing loss were measured for prestin and VEGF before and 4 hours after the I...

Methods: A case-control was carried out from October 2021 to August 2022 on 182 chronic hepatitis B patients who had TDF therapy regularly for 24 weeks at H. Adam Malik and USU Hospitals in Medan, Indonesia. The history of the samples was obtained, followed by physical examination, and blood collection. CTLA-4 polymorphism examination was carried out using real-time PCR, while the serum CTLA-4 levels were assessed with ELISA. Results: The results showed that CTLA-4, HBV DNA, ALT, and CTLA-4 -1661G>A polymorphisms have a relationship with HBV DNA suppression in chronic hepatitis B patients with TDF. Conclusions: The levels of CTLA-4, HBV DNA, ALT, and CTLA-4 -1661G>A polymorphism have a potential relationship with the suppression of HBV DNA in chronic hepatitis B patients with TDF.

AIM: The purpose of this study was to determine the potential neuroprotective effect on chronic cervical myelopathy rabbit model. METHODS: This study was divided into six groups; control negative (Sham-Operated) group, control positive 1 and 2, treatment groups 1, 2, and 3. Olive leaf extract (OLE) gives 350 mg/kg BW and spinal cord sample was taken at the compression level C5. Histopathological assessment and immunohistochemistry of neurofilaments (NF), S-100, brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and evaluation of functional motoric outcome were done before animals were terminated. RESULTS: Chronic cervical myelopathy in rabbit model causes decreased expression of NF, S-100, BDNF, and decreased motor function. Oral administration of OLE increased the expression of these biomarkers and improved motor function outcomes. DISCUSSION: These findings indicate that OLE may be effective in pro...

Nicotine can be found in a never smoker population, such as a child whose father is a smoker. Lung carcinogenesis in never smoker populations is affected by nicotine metabolism by CYP2A6 gene, which encodes the main nicotine metabolizing-enzyme. The aim of this study was to assess the genetic polymorphism of CYP2A6 and its association with secondhand smokers among females who have suffered from lung cancer in North Sumatra population.Materials and methods: This study was a case-control study, composed of 53 case subjects and 46 control subjects that were involved through a purposive sampling technique from two hospitals in Medan. PCR-RFLP was used for the examination of CYP2A6 gene to determine the genotype. The data were analyzed with conditional logistic regression test using Epi Info 7.0 software. Results: The most common genotype of CYP2A6 de...

Central obesity considered a risk factor that is closely related to several chronic diseases. Central obesity is associated with elevated triglyceride levels and associated with RBP4 which can lead to insulin resistance. Increased level of RBP4 can cause lipid metabolism disorders and can become a marker for insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. This study aims to find the correlation of RBP4 with triglycerides and Apo B100 in central obesity. It was a crosssectional study on 46 subjects with central obesity, aged 20-50 years old. Blood samples were taken in cubital vein and examined for RBP4 and triglyceride levels. Data analysis was performed using Spearman correlation test. The results showed that gender frequency distribution showed little difference between men and women, i.e., men 43.5% and women 56.5%. RBP4 level was positively correlated with triglyceride (r = 0.48) and statistically significant (p = 0.001). The rbp4 level was positively correlated with triglyceride, indicating the role of RBP4 on high triglyceride level in central obesity.

Cellulitis is often caused by Streptococcus β-hemolytic, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli. The clinical features of cellulitis marked with redness rash and well-defined borders, pain pressure and swelling. Hypoalbuminemia which occurs due to proteinuria occurred in this patient acts as a risk factor for cellulitis. It has been reported the case of cellulitis as one of the complications of the nephrotic syndrome in the pediatric patient. The treatment has been given to the patient such as antibiotics and supportive therapy and also planned albumin substitution.

This study aimed to determine the characteristics of lung cancer patients in terms of age, mean age, gender, staging, the proportion of lung cancer cells by cytologic examination of Transthoracic Needle Aspiration (TTNA) and histopathologic evaluation from CT-guided core biopsy. Method: This is a descriptive study involving 42 subjects diagnosed with lung cancer at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan in 2016-2020 that met the inclusion criteria through consecutive sampling. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics for categorical variables. Results: Of 42 study subjects, the 60–71-year age group had the highest percentage of lung cancer (42.9%). Male (71.4%) was higher than female, the most common lung cancer staging was IVA (57.1%), and adenocarcinoma was found to be the most frequent type of lung cancer in both cytology (33.3%) and histopathology...
