Employee Story: Ryan, Senior FP&A Analyst | nVent (original) (raw)
“nVent is a good place for people early in their careers to work due to the diversity of opportunities offered at the company.”
When you think about a career in finance, you might envision a traditional and rigid path. What if you could have a dynamic, diverse, and comprehensive journey instead? Meet Ryan, a senior FP&A analyst in our Enterprise office in St. Louis Park, Minnesota who has found his experience to be anything but ordinary, thanks to the three-year, rotational finance leadership development program (FLDP) that he recently graduated from.
Ryan chose to join nVent due to this unique program, which allowed him to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business. “It offered the opportunity to work in multiple functions within the finance organization across the three years of the program,” Ryan shares. “I thought this would be a good way to start my finance career and understand the business from multiple perspectives. His previous roles included working in internal audit and enterprise FP&A. By flowing across multiple business functions and segments, he grew his skills through application of his knowledge to key projects.
“The main projects that helped develop my finance skills were the AOP and forecasting processes,” Ryan explains. “These processes involve me planning and managing the budgets of the functions I am responsible for. I partner with the function owners to realistically build a detailed budget and make adjustments throughout the year, so our overall P&L is as close to our forecast as possible.”
What truly sets nVent apart for Ryan is its vibrant culture. “While the company has an established workforce and historical brands, the culture and direction from executives feels very modern and fresh due to the actual nVent organization itself being just over six years old,” Ryan points out. “Management is very receptive to ideas and the culture is actively being built by the relatively new workforce at the company.”
For those just starting their careers, Ryan believes nVent is an ideal place to work. “nVent is a good place for people early in their careers due to the diversity of opportunities offered at the company,” he advises. “As nVent is a newer organization, it is growing rapidly. This opens up many new roles and functions within the company that can provide career growth and learning opportunities.”
Ryan encourages his peers and others to keep enhancing their communication skills. “Whether it be directly work-related or interpersonal with other employees,” Ryan notes. “Understanding each person’s position and responsibility within the company allows you to work most effectively with others and collaborate with them when necessary. This helps in making projects go smoothly.”
