Data were collected from Web of Science and Scopus (189 Peruvian researchers, 28 institutions on Web of Science and 33 on Scopus), between September 18-23, 2013. Then, institutional registries were created and linear regression analysis with stepwise procedure was run to identify bibliometric factors with higher influence on the h-index of Peruvian researchers. Web of Science and Scopus showed interesting simmilarities in the h-index of Peruvian academic institutions. At individual level, documents indexed in citation database had the highest influence on the h-index. Regression model identified bibliometric factors with higher influence on the h-index of Peruvian researchers, however further large scale studies are needed to improve external validity.

Magazines and newspapers reading, as well as TV and radio preference, are associated with pregnancy in Peruvian adolescents. Methods: Starting from the database of the Demographic and Health Family Survey (Endes, in Spanish) 2004-2005, we selected a sample of 1,567 adolescents, who were 15-17 years old when the survey was done. For the association test we used the 2 test. Results: 2.3% of the adolescents were pregnant at the time of the survey. 6% were mothers of one or two children (n=96). Preferred media were radio and television, in that order. Conclusions: The three variables proposed in the model were associated with pregnancy in adolescence (p<0.01). Recommendations: To promote the sexual education programs in schools by: 1) Incorporating the Sexual Education course as an obligatory subject in the official curriculum. 2) Implementing a network of Sexual Counselling Centres (SCC), channelled as projects of the National Public Investment System (SNIP, in Spanish) through local and regional governments, so that the adolescents have a better knowledge of their sexuality and do not have to interrupt their life projects because of undesired pregnancies.

To analyze the internet perception the author validated the instrument designed by Ford & Miller (1996). The main results were: 1) There were no significative sex differences, between men and women, in relation to the use patterns of internet. 2) Using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) the author identified five internet use behaviors, which explains the style used by the undergratuate students.

However the interest of business is to maximize profits, not to raise social welfare. This topic is little discussed in academic literature, at least those recorded in the database Web of Science and Scopus. To characterize the way scientific papers have addressed the problem of water privatization, searches in Web of Science using keywords related to the privatization of water were done. Then, records were exported to BibExcel and VBPro. BibExcel made possible to identify the most cited articles and authors, as well as to generate a cocitation matrix. VBPro generated two-dimensional maps of contents from title and abstracts of these two databases. The citation analysis and text mining reveals a concentration on key authors and themes, which suggests a limited and narrow perspective on this important social problem.

A self-report instrument in a sample of 325 secondary students of a religious private school was used. The questionnaire was designed by the author of the research. According to the results of the paper: 1) Adolescents preferred to spend their leisure time being with friends, in sports or playing, by contrast they preferred not to read any kind of books and magazines during their leisure time. 2) Seven activities associated with reading of books and magazines were identified using Spearman's correlation coefficient. It was found statistical significance (p .05) among the leisure reading and these seven activities which are related with the use of electronic devices (computers, radios, walkmans, and discmans). Finally, a summary of the findings is presented as well as some suggestions for future research on adolescents leisure time.

Material and method: SAHLSA-50 test with a sample of 49 women in reproductive age, users of the gynaecological service at the Dos de Mayo hospital, in Lima (Perú). For the data analysis we used the the Cronbach's alpha coefficent and the value of alpha if item is deleted. Results: The SAHLSA-50 score had an almost normal distribution and a moderate high level of reliability (alpha=0.8773), but we identified a group of items that should be reviewed because its effect on the reliability of the scale. Conclusions: To find out if patients of health services actually understand the promotional and informative material they receive it is necessary to carry out this kind of studies, but always analizyng if the data collection tool has adequate psychometric properties.

Methodology: this was a cross-sectional study in which the short assessment of health literacy for Spanish adults (SAHLSA-50) test was given to a sample of 49 reproductive-aged females who were attending the gynaecological service at Dos de Mayo Hospital in Lima, Peru. Linear regression analysis and Pearson’s coefficient of correlation were used to test the hypothesis. Results: SAHLSA test scores ranged from 22 to 50 points, averaging 37 + 7.15 points; 43% of the females surveyed obtained a score lower than the average on the health literacy test (n=21). It was found that the level of schooling was a predictor for health literacy level (p<0.05). Conclusions: these findings showed that patients who have had lower levels of schooling would have little opportunity of understanding written messages/instructions issued by local or state health services.

Aim: To assess the relationship between the access to printed and audiovisual information resources and unwanted pregnancy in Peruvian women. Material and methods: A sample of 5,071 women, aged between 18 and 30 years was selected from a datábase of a Demographics and Health survey performed between 2004 and 2005. Using the information obtained in the survey, the association between unwanted pregnancies and reading newspapers and magazines, was analyzed. Results: Twenty six percent of women had at least an unwanted child (n =1,327). Radio and televisión were the media mostly used by these women. Seventy five percent of women almost never read newspapers and magazines. The lack of reading and the reliance in televisión and radio as sources of information were all associated with unwanted pregnancy (p & lt;0.001). Conclusions: In this sample of women, there is a negligible interest for reading and a high preference for radio and televisión. This explains the poor knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and the lack of impact of printed materials used in educational campaigns.

Methods: The bibliographic references of 80 monographic works of undergraduate students from a private Peruvian university, enrolled in the course 'Writing and Discussion' were analyzed. The bibliographic references were divided in two groups: those belonging to the classroom where the teacher set up quotas for the number of texts found in the internet that could be cited and those belonging to the classroom where the teacher didn't set up quotas. Results: The hyphotesis was confirmed because it was found a significative difference in the number of non academic cites between the two classrooms (t=-4.009 , g.l.=78, p.0001). However the difference in the number of academic cites was too small and didn't get statistic significance. According to the r of Pearson coefficient there is a positive and strong correlation between the books category and the variable academic cites (p.001), while the categories newspapers, magazines and non academic web sites showed a negative and too weak relationship. With relation to the newspapers this inverse relationship was significative (p.05). Conclusions: Even when the citation of texts found on the internet has become a mainstream practice, while the teachers set up specific rules and quotas for the number of texts found on the internet that can be cited, it is possible to control and, in the long term, reduce the negative impact caused for the use of non academic information sources or works non thrustworthy.

For exploratory analysis, we consulted papers indexed by the Web of Science database, and to measure the web visibility, used the webometrics ranking methodology to analyze the journals Economia and Contratexto. The university leading Peruvian scientific production, generates the same volume of Science as the three universities included in top 10 academic institutions. Economía and Contratexto journals has lower web visibility than other Latinamerican journals from Economics and Communication Research. We conclude that as the Peruvian universities turn their traditional printed journals into open access, academic journals can improve their web visibility.

A description was made of the work style of a full text information retrieval system distributed as a free software model, which has achieved an important diffusion level within the Peruvian academic community: the Cybertesis site. Subsequently, the usability problems of the search interface of the mentioned site reveals an excess of information in the presentation of the results, as well as omissions in the signs and labels used, and the absence of necessary search options as, for example, chronologic search. Finally, changes to the search interface of Cybertesis were recommended aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of its information recovery system.
