These components were under big vibration and severe fatigue conditions. The cracks in these components appear in two distinct parts: in the upper zone of the cover and in the frontal central zone of the body of the housing.

Failure to consider these capabilities can lead to unrealistic risk estimates, especially when the level of uncertainty is high. In the proposed model, the original applicability of conventional FMEA was retained along with the three conventional risk variables, namely, severity, occurrence, and detectability. In addition, a fourth variable was added to account for risk mitigation capabilities. A case study in the project selection of aircraft repairs was used to demonstrate the implementation of the model and its applicability. The results show that the inclusion of mitigation options leads to more realistic risk scenarios, suggesting that the original FMEA approach may lead to non-conservative risk estimates.

The current demands of today’s companies require the maintenance and management responsible to seek new forms of organization, using innovative techniques and methodologies to manage in the most efficient way. This study was drawn up following an internship in the management of operations and maintenance of a company in the oil sector.

A computational tool was developed and it allows the characterization of the damage in dimensional and geometrical terms. The adopted methodology is based on the concepts of the theory of inertia principle and through the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the binary image resulting from the image processing and obtained by digital radiography it was possible to estimate the principal direction of the damage.

The tests are performed placing the regulator in the barometric chamber, where low pressure conditions are forced to simulate altitude conditions and then a flow is forced on the output of the regulator to simulate the inhalation of the user. The relevant test flows are measured by laminar flowmeters. These flowmeters are meant to measure the flowrate at pressures correspondent to altitudes between sea level altitude and fifty thousand feet. In this work a way was studied to automate laminar flowmeters used on oxygen regulator test benches. For this purpose, was developed a data acquisition system (DAS) using a microcontroller board and two microelectromechanical systems—MEMSs (a pressure and temperature sensor and a differential pressure sensor). Since these MEMSs did not have factory calibration, they were calibrated in this study. The autom...

Through the analyse of the intrinsic manufacturing defects, microhardness and fatigue study with and without corrosion results, is presented a new approach to determine the durability of two steel alloys based on fatigue limit stress prediction models. For the study of the effect of the corrosion the test specimens to obtain the S-N curves were submitted to organic waste for 48 hours.publishersversionpublishe

Even when there is no plan, it is a passive maintenance plan, where some risks are assumed. This study pursues a Management Maintenance System where the best equipment availability and performance considering minimal costs is the objective. For this work, was selected two equipment’s from a ship and consider three stages. The first stage consisted in the definition of evaluation criteria and it meaningfulness. The data treatment from the first stage that can provide enough information for the maintenance plan decision defined the second stage. And the decision-making based on the process is the third stage. The decision of the maintenance system was based in a Fuzzy model considering a Risk-Based Maintenance.
