We give an exponential representation of a supermatrix in GLp,q(1|1) using a different method of the first author and co-worker [Balkan Phys. Lett. 5, 32 (1997)] and we obtain the commutation relations satisfied by the matrix elements of the exponent. We show that these relations can be expressed in terms of an r-matrix. In the Appendix, we get the matrix representations of the generators of a supermatrix in GLp,q(1|1). Mathematics Subject Classification: 17B37, 20G42

In line with the aim of the research, the existing situation was evaluated with respect to distance education students’ gender, age, views of distance education in verbal and numerical courses, study habits, reasons for their choice of distance education and parental level of education. The research was carried out in survey model. The research data were collected during the academic year of 2012–2013 from distance education students enrolled in a university in the city of Istanbul. The data collected were analyzed by means of a statistical package program and interpreted according to the findings. Based on the research findings, some suggestions were presented for further research and researchers.

The sample consists of 803 6th-, 7th-and 8th-grade students in Istanbul. Data obtained from sub-problems of the present study was analyzed by SPSS 13.0. T-test and the Pearson product moment correlation was used to analyze data gathered from "Learning Styles Scale" and Geometry Self-efficacy Scale. Results showed that female students have visual learning style at 8th grade, bodily-kinesthetic learning style at 7th grade; and they have more negative self-efficacy towards geometry at 6th grade. Results also showed that all students' visual learning style has a significant positive relation with geometry self-efficacy and use of geometry knowledge; and 8th grade students' kinesthetic learning style has a significant positive relation with geometry self-efficacy a...

In this context, the way prospective teachers perceive mathematics learning becomes significant. The aim of this study is to identify prospective mathematics teachers’ metaphorical images with respect to the concept of “mathematics learning ” using metaphor techniques. The prospective teachers who participated in the research (a total of 59) included 35 females and 24 males. The participants were asked to formulate metaphors about “mathematics learning”. The metaphors and their justifications were analyzed and eight conceptual categories were determined. For reliability of the research study, expert opinion was sought to confirm whether the metaphorical images given under 8 categories represented one of those conceptual categories. The conceptual categorie...

Effective learning and teaching of mathematics considerably depends on the accurate use of language. In line with these, this study aims to explore pre-service primary mathematics teachers’ skills of defining and expressing a variety of concepts and properties in the context of quadrilaterals using the language of mathematics. Another objective is to determine pre-service mathematics teachers’ opinions on using language in mathematics teaching and explore the relationship between their opinions and their skills of using the language of mathematics. For this aim, data collection tools include the “Language in Mathematics Teaching Scale” and a test which involves six open-ended questions that cover the sub-dimensions of defining a concept, expressing conceptual properties with a verbal and a symboli...

The concept of mathematical literacy has also come to the fore due to the use of mathematical efficacy at various grade levels. Therefore, this research aims to investigate distance education students’ self-efficacy levels of mathematical literacy. Survey model was used in this research. The sampling of the research consists of distance education students enrolled in a state university. Data collection tools were a Math Literacy Self-Efficacy scale and a personal information form. The SPSS16.0 statistical package was used for the statistical analyses of the research data. According to the results of the findings, distance education students’ self-efficacy levels of math literacy were evaluated in terms of their success in mathematics, gender, views on quantitative courses, Internet use while studying mathematics and e-book reading about mathematics...

ABSTRACT This research is largely inspired by the belief that, teachers' attitudes toward “teaching how to learn mathematics " have an important role in teaching mathematics. Research methodology comprises the application of a four-factored "Attitude Scale Regarding the Teaching of Mathematics Learning” involving 32 items and a demographic form to 40 mathematics and 38 classroom teachers and 33 prospective mathematics and 32 prospective classroom teachers. Both the scale and the demographic form were developed by Gulten and Derelioglu (2006). One-way variance analysis (ANOVA) was used in order to determine if there is subject-specific variation with respect to certain sub-factors such as “ the role of the teacher", "active learning", "teaching how to learn", "evaluation. Independent group t test was used to test gender variation and Pearson correlation coefficient technique was used to examine variation with respect to age. Analysis of the data revealed that the attitude scale scores of mathematics teachers was significantly higher than the mathematics and classroom candidate teachers. It has been found that teachers' and teacher candidates' scale points increased with increasing age, except for the "Learning Assessment' sub-scale. It has also been found that scale points of males were significantly higher than females, except for "Teaching of Learning" sub-scale. Key Words: Learning to Learn, Teaching How to Learn, Mathematics Teaching, Teacher, Prospective Teacher.

The research was conducted with 46 senior students in the department of Primary Mathematics Education in Istanbul. Web Pedagogical Content Knowledge scale developed by Lee, Tsai and Chang (2008) and adapted into Turkish by Horzum (2011) was used as the data collection tool. Values of frequency and percentage and Kruskal Wallis test were used in the analysis of the data. Whether preservice teachers’ perceptions towards adequacy levels for web pedagogical content knowledge differ or not was discussed in terms of their views on distance education and their habits of using the Internet and e-mail.

In this context, this research study was planned with the idea that it is important to determine the teaching attitudes of pre-service teachers who graduated from the faculty of Science and Letters and the faculty of Education. The research problem was to investigate pre-service elementary mathematics teachers' attitudes towards the profession of teaching and the teaching attitudes of the Mathematics graduates from the faculty of Science and Letters who have taken teaching formation courses in terms of different variables. The research was conducted with the pre-service mathematics teachers enrolled in the senior grade of the program of Mathematics Education in Hasan Ali Yücel Faculty of Education and those taking teaching formation courses in the academic year of 2012-2013. The data were collected using the "Teaching Approach Scale" developed by Çetin (2006) and a demographical information form prepared by the researchers. This quantitative research study was conducted in survey method. An SPSS 16 statistical program was used to analyse the data. According to the findings, it was observed that pre-service teachers' attitudes towards teaching did not differ in terms of gender, parents' educational level, type of high school of graduation. On the other hand, a significant statistical difference was detected between the pre-service teachers' attitudes towards teaching in terms of parents' monthly income. The research findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature and some suggestions were provided for further research and researchers.

In other words to investigate whether their perceived learning skills vary according to their four year university education. Findings show that problem solving skill levels of prospective teachers are below the average, the skills do not differ according to their departments and senior prospective teachers' problem solving skills are higher than the freshman prospective teachers. Moreover female prospective teachers have higher problem solving skills than male prospective teachers and the ones studying regularly to courses also have higher skills than the ones studying before the exam.
