Some engineering properties of these materials were investigated and testing results were compared with each other and standards. It was found that standard penetration was reduced, viscosity and complex modulus were increased and there was no noticeable change on softening point and on phase angle by the addition of natural bitumen. The test results on the Marshall specimens showed that retained Marshall stability, indirect tensile strength ratio, stiffness modulus at temperatures of 15, 25 and 35°C and fatigue life were significantly increased by the addition of natural bitumen (gilsonite) to normal bitumen. Furthermore, Ş ırnak (Silopi) asphaltites of 2, 4 and 8 % by weight in ratio were added into B160/ 220 bitumen. The mechanical properties of original bitumen and modified bitumen additives with additive asphaltite were studied and the optimum content of 4 % asphaltite and good results were found.

Oilwell drilling, which is a very expensive operation, requires advanced technical knowledge and ... more Oilwell drilling, which is a very expensive operation, requires advanced technical knowledge and technology. Choosing the most suitable drill bits for the formation conditions to be drilled, which is the most important factor in the drilling cost and the rapid completion of the well, is one of the research subjects in which a large number and detailed studies have been carried out in the last 20 years. The orientations on the subject are towards increasing the "penetration rate of drill bit" on which the drilling economy depends substantially. In addition to the mechanical properties of the rocks and the formation properties including geological conditions, the characteristics of the drill such as drill bit types, features, and operating parameters also affect the drilling process of a well. This study aims to examine the types, penetration rates, and costs per meter of drill bits used according to formation types in oil and gas wells in the hydrocarbon production basins of Turkey. Besides, in the study, a new global chart is presented to be used for the selection of tricone rock bits suitable for the formation to be drilled, according to the IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors) codes. Thus, in future oilwell drilling operations, a new attempt has been made to select the appropriate tricone rock bits and to penetrate in optimum conditions.

According to the results obtained from these studies, it has been reported that gold and hydrocarbons are carried and deposited by the same hydrothermal fluids. In the Seferihisar Uplift, the Efemçukuru Gold Operation possesses the largest proven gold reserves of Turkey. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed to investigate the oil and gas potential of the Seferihisar Uplift by conducting total petroleum hydrocarbons analyses on the samples taken from the natural cold-water resources. As a result of the analyses conducted, hydrocarbons have been detected in all the water samples. Organic geochemical methods have been used to determine the source of hydrocarbons detected in the water resources. The n-alkane hydrocarbons found in the water samples are the mature petroleum hydrocarbons, which are the geochemical evidence for a working petroleum system in the study area. Due to the presence of mature hydrocarbon-rich waters, the main structure in a maximum of 765 m depth determined in the study area according to gravity and magnetic data has a significant hydrocarbon potential to become an oil and/or gas reservoir. In this study, Ceyhan (Adana) limestone produced in quarries was used as aggregate material, and its physical, chemical and mechanical properties were determined. The rock was classified due to uniaxial compressive strength, point load index, porosity and Schmidt hammer hardness test method. Concrete samples were produced using crushed limestone. Concrete mixes were designed to have a constant strength and workability for different aggregate gradation using the absolute volume method. Optimum water-cement ratio was determined using vibrating slump for the same concrete mixture proportions. Cylindrical concrete samples were prepared with these fresh mixtures. The concrete produced was cured at 7, 14 and 28 days in water to obtain its compressive strength. It was seen that the compressive strength of concrete depends upon water-cement ratio and aggregate size.

This requirement has further increased the importance of drilling optimization. There are many literature studies on this subject. In this study, the data of oil and gas wells drilled in onshore Turkey were evaluated by investigating the studies on drilling optimization. It is aimed to create a new source for the literature by statistical analysis. For this purpose, the reports of 470 oil and gas wells drilled in 1963 - 2021 in onshore Turkey have been analyzed. The well locations, their average well depths, drilling operation results, drilling times and costs, log and perforation operation costs, Drill Stem Test (DST) operation costs, acidizing operation costs, workover operation costs, cement costs, drill-bit types according to commonly used International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) codes for drilled formations, total costs and costs per meter for the oilwells have been evaluated.
